Brawl was made before sakurai made a kid icarus game, he only made uprising. Basically, pit was added to smash as one of those retro chartacters like R.O.B, G&W, duck hunt duo or pacman. Sakurai was unfamiliar with Pit, discovered the NES game and basically said "this is good... I can make one better" He didn't make the character of medusa, but he did make Alpharads GF version of Medusa where she isn't a cyclops.
