I found that jacking up the car, supporting it VERY securely with Jack stands and removing the passenger front tire and removing the sending unit through the wheel well to be pretty simple...
G'day mate, your steering wheel's on the wrong side and your engine is facing the wrong way, but I still found the sensor with your help, so, thanks for the video.
@@BarboursAutoHelp You've got the accent in one! Just bought myself, not sure why, an '87 Navara 4x4 ute(D21 Hardbody), with a 3.8 conversion, and wanted to disconnect sensor to be sure what the extra warning light is. Was pretty convinced it was oil, but when I fired it up, with sensor disconnected, the bloody light went out, but only for long enough to confuse the hell outa me, and then came back on. Now thinking I have a Navara, with a wicked sense of humour.
Really nice helpful video. Just one thing I would charge on your video. You said front of the engine next to radiator - it’s not . Front of the engine facing to the right of the vehicle.
Thank you very much. I havr a major issue with my 1998 Pontiac Bonneville.. In the mornings its hard to start and seems as it is not getting gas. But after it gets started and warmed up it is fine you can cut it off and start it all day long no problem. I have replaced and checked different sensors and fuel system.. I am baffled.. Please Help..
Where is the actual oil pump? I changes the sender unit so now I need to replace the oil pump. Can you help me with that and where to buy the oil pump? Thanks!
If I'm not getting a oil pressure reading on the gauge chances are the oil pressure sensor is out, would that be an accurate assessment of the problem?
My oil pressure slowly lowers a bit maybe 15 psi when driving my 91 bonneville I have the actual shop manual but it’s a pain to track stuff down or issues this happened about 2000 miles after changing oil and weather got cold not sure if either of these are related. Thanks
Very detailed instructions, thank you. I have the same engine in my 03 Impala. The problem I'm having is my oil pressure is reading about 3/4 on the gauge. It does go up and down, depending on how I'm driving. But I'm just curious if you know if the oil pressure sensor is the problem? I don't think it's normal. I plan on changing the oil this weekend, so I'll change the pressure sensor as well if needed.
@@BarboursAutoHelp it doesn't seem right, maybe a little high. At idle it sits around the middle of the gauge, going down the highway at 70mph, it's around the 3/4 mark.
I'd say if your oil pressure is in the half to 3/4 range on your instrument cluster your ok. It's should move a bit depending on engine RPM. However, if you want to be 100% everything is ok then take a manual pressure reading with a gage, a hand held gage, and compare values to your manual. If your not sure how to do that properly then I'd get a trained tech to do it for you. Sounds like you're ok though.
On Mine, there doesn't appear to be any leaking oil, but the oil light comes on and dings (very annoying) , the engine runs fine, do you think the sending unit has gone bad? ( I guess I can try replacing it ... realitiviely cheap solution if it is the sensor)... Do these go out very often? (it has 175k on it) Would the next step be an oil pump? thanks for all of your help.
It could be the sensor. The only way to tell for sure is to diagnose the problem....... or try a sensor and see what happens. Yes, the do go out a lot.
Thanks for this video it helps a lot. I have a question you mentioned in the other video you had to clean the electrical plug and something about a rubber ring but you didnt go into detail. How do you clean it and with what?
I'm going to change my power steering pump which led me down the rabbit hole and since I'm there (doing preventative maintenance) i decided to do the oil pressure sensor, and water pump, heater hose elbows. Is there anything else you recommend to do while the car is taken apart like that?
@@BarboursAutoHelp I've been trying to diagnose a my 2001 park ave leak for a few weeks now. Oil seems to be originating from right above the oil filter, right there at the sending unit. I've been having a hard time finding reliable information until now. Thank you!
hello do you have any video on how to fix buick regal thermostat 2011 ..code PO128 ..AND THE OTHER CODE IS PO2271 I CAN'T FIND ANY VIDEO I WOULD APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH THANK YOU
Here is a link to a video concerning p0128 that may shed some light on that code. Will it cause you oil pressure gauge to go up and down or is it the oil pump

I think it's both my oil pressure still flickers up and down while idleing after the car has been ran for a while.

Do you have to take off the wheel to get at the sensor?
Thank you where can i get a socket to fit my oil pressure sensor
Most parts stores carry them. You can also get them off of Amazon.

Check ur oil level.

Electrical contact cleaner or any similar solvent.
Small amount of water proof grease holds ruber and other small lightweight obects inplace. Make sure none gets on ends of electronic.

Just whatever you may see wrong at the time your in there.
What if it's not the oil pressure sensor it still leaks
How can I tell if the oil sending unit is bad
Is this the same as a 2004 v6 Buick lasabre?
I have a question. I have a 07 Buick lacrosse with the 3.8 engine series 3 is it in the same location
Not sure. Take a look.
It been tooken care of thank you for responding
Will a low oil level light come on if one of these go bad?
It's a pressure sensor not a level sensor.
I have a ? If u don't mind. will a faulty oil pressure sensor cause the fuel pump to shut off?
On some older vehicles.
Im having a problem my pontiac grad prix has a serious oil leak not sure where its coming from

is the Oil pressure sending unit a fairly common leak on the 3800s?

My oil leak seems to be coming from this sensor? When the engine is running it pours. Pan and filter are fine, what else could it be?
Trace the oil to the source. You have to get a visual on it.

You can drive it with the bad sensor, you'll just never know if there's actually a problem until it's too late.
Let's call it what it is, a 3800
Something wrong with calling it a 3.8L series 2? Seems to be more descriptive to me.
