If your getting latency issues, try installing ASIO4ALL it's a hardware independent low latency ASIO driver for WDM audio devices. ASIO drivers (in general) allow lower CPU overhead and lower buffer settings than the standard Windows ('Primary Sound Driver', WDM Driver). If your audio interface has a native ASIO driver then use that.
I've started trying different software and I found Magix very useful. BUt now I'm learning to a second hand BR600 I bought last year and I'm still using audacity as a sound editor. You shouldn't hate Audacity, we all should support it because it's free. You have talented people working on it who aren't charging a penny for it. On the other hand it's so easy to use it always helps me out.
@truthamedia Reaper is my main DAW and Audacity is my external editor. Go to Options>Preferences, then scroll down to the bottom of the list in the left pane, and select "External Editors". Then click Add, and Browse to the Audacity executable. Audacity is my only external editor, so I left the File Type and Secondary editor fields blank. Now when you right click on a waveform, you have the "Open items in editor" option.
bought magix music studio some years ago. it has more options i´ll need in a lifetime. and cost 10 bucks. the best music was made in the 60s on 8track recorders on minimalistic consoles, with analog effects, but great performers. modern profileration of technology attracts the wrong kind of people to record music. the result is a cacophony of auto-tuned trash.
@TheMarsLegend this latency is caused by your audio card. You need to upgrade it to better one if you want to decrease the latency. You can purchase such audio cards for around 30-40 bucks
Reaper is another awesome piece of DAW software. It's not technically free, although you can use it for free as long as the guilt doesn't get to you. But even if you choose to pay for it, which I advise you to do, it's only $60, which is an AMAZING price considering the functionality. It does about 90% of what Pro Tools does, and it does a bunch of stuff Pro Tools doesn't at 1/10th the cost. I actually use Audacity WITH Reaper, as the Audio editor, since Reaper is a non-destructive editor.
@VanillaGorillaVlogs Mucic you can legally put on youtube would be your own original stuff or something you have permission for. Which most artists really don't care about, just the record labels which want money. So, yes, you could use it for music you can put on RUclips. Which isn't actually what you're asking. But if you google you can find tricks to upload any song to RUclips.
yeah, mp3 grabber pro is an all-round recording software to record audio from computer and microphone, even more, it can convert and edit audio files, burn CD, add to iTunes.
It depends on one's creativity and technical prowess. The Beatles recorded their greatest record on 4-track analog tape in the 60's. But, I surmise based on your comment The Beatles are irrelevant. You should also look into Tom Jenkinson - SquarePusher. He used the tools available to him or created his own to form his signature style/sound. It's not just the tech, it's the talent that wields it.
this is a great program to make references.. its common sense, you don't want to be limited then you have to spend money for it. music production is expensive+plug ins etc..
I've heard that the learning curve for pro tools is pretty steep that's why I started with simpler software like Magix and Cubase LE. I'm not interested at this point to deal with the technicalities of a software if I can get away with a simpler software. If you buy the M-audio interface it comes with the simpler version of pro tools. Maybe you can go that way.
maybe ive worded it wrong but ive tried a few daws out and compared to the likes of reason cubase and ableton for example i find reaper easier to get started with. it can be a complex program but with any daw around there is always a learning curve involved. also people have different ways of working so it may not be for everyone either.
Audacity is a free open source software which means that developers contribute their ideas to improve this software. They know it's not perfect and as with anything there is always going to be a better program somewhere and as the PC musician matures, he/she is always going to find the need for better, enhanced recording software. As for the beginner, Audicity is an excellent place to start. If you want software that sucks, go to NCH software.
i only use this software to cut unwanted "wav" out of the sample then take the smaller file to recycle, i literally only use it for 2 minutes at a time
Thanks for that information and the presentation. Good electronika music. I will check those out. Pro tools at over $600, Forge studio over $300. Very helpful.
To me, the best audio recorder is mp3 grabber pro, which records all sound played on your computer and microphone in high quality. Very easy to use, it can be searched by google "mp3 grabber pro"
***** If you want to use it for more than a recorder or converter then I guess you can... but I know the FL devs and would rather people bought FL, but if you don't have money then a crack would be what you have to do...
Ive gotten excellent sound out of Mixcraft 5.2, using a ton of vst's, like Guitar Rig 5 pro, EZ Drums w/ metalheads add on and using Mixcraft's VIT's get awesome strings and sytnhs...have done a whole CD and alot of stuff for the school I work it, great program for the $75, lots of free vst's out there for vocals, guitar etc...extremist and guitar rig 5 pro being best!
I have a blue yeit microphone ($170 in australia)and I have the gain on low. Even on the second lowest setting it can clip. I have to put audacity on the lowest recording I can to speak decently loudly. Fml.
Im not a computer guru I play saxophone, am trying to learn to play trumpet and think recording my practice session so I can hear what Im doing would be helpful, My new C920 Logitech cam does a great job of recording regular stuff by when Im playing I get horrible sound distortion and can tell what im doing...can you advise me?
Mp3 is fine if you want the basic tune and song but you miss all the subtle nuances of vinyl. Most people now just want something there and then with instant gratification so mp3 is good. They are missing out though.
Really hate audacity, even though its gotten me out of a tight spot in the past. If they just updated the GUI it may be more attractive to the end user.
Audacity may be okay as a free program, but the trouble is that effects can not be applied in real time, so pre and post comparison of effects is poor. Sorely needs updating to real time.
@09cripboy try mixcraft.... the software's free but to publish it during finalization of your song needs a purchase.... never the less at least you can still use mixcraft... buy the serial key if you want to finalize your song and put it up as an mp3 or whatever format you want. I tried it already and am still using... sadly most of my songs can't be finalized since I need to buy the product serial key. It's a great program and if you like it, buy it and support it's developers.
can you please share (again if you have already) a link to that free program, i''m worked in a studio a wile ago and I know good and love that stuff but I can't afford them... so please
Audacity is trash. Once you start recording on one column and then stop, it goes to a second column instead of continuing on the one you stopped. This makes over dubbing insanely difficult. You can't get anything nice for free.
you just didn't bother to take the time to find out how to use it. Audacity does really a lot, and very easily too. I've worked with most professional digital recording software and hardware, and I find Audacity to be a powerful and very useful tool in small setups. It is not rocket science either.. but RTFM holds true here..
how can i separate the recording of the guitar and the vocals? when i record in the first column the guitar? and when i record in the 2nd column it simultaneously playing. how can i separate it? while playing the music the vocals is only i record? in AUDACITY...
blogunuzu çok faydalı buldum emek harcamışsınız. teşekkür ederiz ama ne yazık ki free veya demo için indirme linkleri bulamadım var ise kolay ulaşılabilir bir link nerede?
@mojoj87 Yh, I'm pretty sure, u just need some plugins to do it real fancy. there is tons of videos on youtube that shows how to do it, and I'm sure there is video swell showing how to upgrade it :)
hi ive heard a interface helps it i test it before with my DigiTech RP-250 Multi-Effects Guitar Effect Pedal it got usb plug and play and yes it did stay in time
@CaptainCocaine which do you use as your general software and which do you use as editing. I am using reaper as my general software cuz i can do more with it and i want to use audacity as my editor but i dont know how to sync them up. help would be apprectiated
Well I used to use pro tools but it belonged to my uncle who moved out last year. Now I'm using audacity for the same thing I used pro tools for. I've gotten pretty skilled with audacity since I've been using it for a year but it's hard not to get frustrated with it when I used to use pro tools.
I agree. I use it for recording because it's all I have but I really hate it. I'd use pro tools but I don't have the money for it so I need the next best free software.
I have a question... Do any of the programs record multiple mics that are plugged directly into a laptop? Im cheap and i want to try a few Rock Band mics. If anyone can help, that would be amazing.
@MusicRecordingSoftwa Hello.I installed Quartz Studio on XP.But only the Mixer Window appears and not like in your Video the whole DAW or Sequenzer.Do you know how can i enable it ???
Do you know of any free vst sample players simmilar to IK multi media sample tank 3? It can create very good backing tracks for say a guitar or synth etc. and like good bass sounds and funky slap bass sounds. And 3 or more loops simultaniously to make sample based music.
i'm using Windows 8 and I think it SUCKS for recording LIVE music. - I've tried several different music software including: Magix Music Maker, Sony ACID, Audacity and Audition to record live musical instruments. - No matter which software I use, I experience "latency" issues where if you're trying to record additional track project... the subsequent tracks are ALL out of sync, lagging behind the beat by as much as 8-10 seconds. - it's infuriating!!!
Audacity was good, for free, but the new version is hard to use and I have yet been able to get the distortion off of my music loading to Audacity. I tried levels, but nothing works, Audacity needs a better help forum where things are easy to find its to cumbersome
@MusicRecordingSoftwa Can you please help.I have just started using Audacity to record rock lead guitar onto some backing tracks(guns n roses etc)but am having serious problems when playing back the mixed recording. The volume level of my miked up amp through the alesis mixer is o.k through my earphones until I record a piece then play back the mixed piece and the guitar is so loud it's untrue.I can barely hear the backing track only my guitaring eventhough it sounded a good mix when recording.
@TheMarsLegend my latency is caused by the mic i use...i use good mic's in studio however at home i use audacity to record ideas for songs and whatnot. I use a shitty headset mic, so sometimes it has nothing to do with your soundcard
I've complained to the manufacturer about "realtek", the horrible sound system where if you use a mic to sing into recording software there seems as if another voice is singing flat so you can't get the melody right. Also window's so-called recorder DISAPPEARS or is not available. Realtek has karaoke sounds which I was able to find once but never again! I had to delete Realtek from Windows 7 due to screeching feedback and karaoke sounds gone wild.(I never turned them on)
i made alot of tracks usng audacity expecially if you download its plugins in full. with these effects who cares which software i used rather than the quality of music i make

Hi, I just downloaded Audacity and am curious on this point. Are you saying that if I use an external interface with my laptop I wont get latency issues ?? thanks
So, I wrote lyrics to an instrumental that another youtuber uploaded to his channel. He said I have his permission to use his video to sing over, but I don't know how to put his video in a software. Can anybody help?
Fl studio ain't free . Its a fucking demo shit i use audacity but that is so fucking hard to use....... the one i really use is mixcraft that shit is so nice to use I'm on my second album music on mixcraft it's the fucking best i ever seen.
querrell thompsom Hey! I've sent the link to you in your email. Let me know if you have any problems downloading from the website and I'll send it to you in another way!
You can't say Audacity sucks. It's perfect for quick edits you need for school projects, and some slightly higher-level stuff. Plus, IT'S FREE. No one is making you spend money on it, so quit your complaining.
dude this is like cakewalk pro audio 9..back in the late 90's you can get reaper for a small price and some say free. audacity is good if you r in a pinch thats about it.

Podium is a great new program from Zynewave on windows...very useful free version too! Liking it better than cubase or sonar!

Guys, just use the demo of FL Studio, you can't save projects, but you can save or render the audio which is good enough!
Manny Cruz So do your stuff in FL, then export as audio, bam, done.
Lukeme9X
how do you get it
Trayce Farrow just google FL Studio then click on download demo
Trayce Farrow if you want the full version of fl studio, hit me up!

ann nonomous Which would be? i'd like to find some free software where i could record audio and train singing :)
Miika Kinnunen if your looking for something thats free, i would google "fruity loops free." ..,its up to date! :P
The thing is that Audacity is a great tool but it's NOT meant for sound recording, multitracking, etc. You have to try other software.
thanks for the info but? with out internet is there a another way to down load the program on my tower like a flashdrive or CD.
how can i separate the recording of the guitar and the vocals? when i record in the first column the guitar? and when i record in the 2nd column it simultaneously playing. how can i separate it? while playing the music the vocals is only i record? in AUDACITY...
Hit "mute" on the track your don't want to hear while you record your new track.
I got Logic Pro 9, Pro tools 8Le, Cubase 6, And Sonar X1

Try mp3 grabber! Just copy and paste the URL in the box, then you can get the mp3 you want.
fuck you moore olivia
I am looking for recording music with vocals here online, and also softwares, and recording vocal wamrups as a vocalist.
@mojoj87 Yh, I'm pretty sure, u just need some plugins to do it real fancy. there is tons of videos on youtube that shows how to do it, and I'm sure there is video swell showing how to upgrade it :)

can you use audacity for music that you can legally put on youtube?
quartz audio master is almost impossible to use-the instruction manual tells you what it can do but not how to do it.

Audacity is great to records music from the net, etc. But it doesn't recognize your USB drive. you can't use audacity as a recording studio.
@MusicRecordingSoftwa Can you please help.I have just started using Audacity to record rock lead guitar onto some backing tracks(guns n roses etc)but am having serious problems when playing back the mixed recording. The volume level of my miked up amp through the alesis mixer is o.k through my earphones until I record a piece then play back the mixed piece and the guitar is so loud it's untrue.I can barely hear the backing track only my guitaring eventhough it sounded a good mix when recording.

whats the link? the first one that showed up on google said its temporary unavailable...
Amber Montes
Presonus Studio One Artist or Pro is my suggestion. I have artist and I am very pleased with it. cost about $350.00
i made alot of tracks usng audacity expecially if you download its plugins in full. with these effects who cares which software i used rather than the quality of music i make
Can you use it to sample for maschine?
the audacity tutorial didn't work good in my computer and i can't record a rap song i wrote

I cant say it is best in recording, but i can say, it is best in editing audio. :)
now audacity is good if u no how to use it
***** hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh K.O
The only one piece of software on here that's ACTUALLY free is Audacity. Everything else is limited--
Kristal Audio Engine is free, but for non-commercial use. Otherwise it's 24.90 Euro for a single user license.
Quartz Audio Master no longer exists and the site you should be able to download it from is now giving out viruses like they're going out ot style.
And Anvil Studio is only free for MIDI, or two 1-min audio tracks... or else you pay $19 for 8 audio tracks--$39 for 16. :(
Hi, I just downloaded Audacity and am curious on this point. Are you saying that if I use an external interface with my laptop I wont get latency issues ?? thanks
Audacity isn't crap. Your microphone is bad or the sensitivity on audacity is too high.
Mp3 Grabber Pro works great in recording and downloading music, you can get it from google
for windows there no other choice than Sequoia / Samplitude and a 24-32bit audio
How much does it cost for fruity loops
That's what i been looking for. Thanks
how do you get all of the extra tools on audacity?
So, I wrote lyrics to an instrumental that another youtuber uploaded to his channel. He said I have his permission to use his video to sing over, but I don't know how to put his video in a software. Can anybody help?
IM TRYING 2 LEARN HOW 2 MAKE A MIXTAPE OR JUS RECORD MY SELF RAPPIN OVER OTHER PEOPLE BEATS IF U GOT ANY ANSWERS HIT ME UP

Try using more legible fonts. But, thanks for the info.
wow. what a haunting experience of softwares
Audacitys cool.
I use it to record stuff on the internet without actually downloading it.
You set your input to the computer and no external mic.
how to record earphones music in mobile, and please tell me application
The Kristal Audio Engine is the best out of this list.....
I downloaded pro tools and Propellerhead reason from easydl and both works.
