Missing step leading to the following error - "interface eth0 does not currently exist." To fix it, go into the setting of your PiHole, go to "settings", go to "DNS" at the top, and in "interface settings" enable "Allow Only Local Requests." I see that's selected on your screen, maybe I just missed you talking about it - either way, fixed now!
I've been spending all morning trying to get PiHole to work in a custom docker image, because I thought the TrueNAS release was broken... but it was just this one option. Thank you so much. This fixed it for me!
Started using Truenas this year and been loving it, Unfortunately I choose TrueNas Core rather than Truenas Scale. Already got a few things running on it and to change it all over again to Scale would be a nightmare. So much more on Scale that I want to use lol
Been using Pi-Hole for a couple of years now via a Rasperry Pi Zero and it blocks the LOT, even YT ads ! Was so easy.......nearly as easy as mixing that cocktail !!! Thanks for the instructional video Vegas Mike....appreciated as always. Do you know how to make the perfect Black Russian ? So difficult to get properly over here in the UK.
Are you actually replacing the Raspberry Pi's pi-hole with this or will you add both to your network to enable some form of failover if the TrueNAS machine went down? I've been running 2 pi-holes for sometime for that exact reason. I also use Cloudflared to support DoH (DNS-Over-HTTPS) requests to encrypt my DNS queries. All in Docker.
I'm keeping the Raspberry Pi pi-hole as a failover for sure. I really like the TrueNAS Pi-Hole because it's just easier to update and its all in one spot with my Plex Server and NAS storage. Thanks for watching Kevin!
I just dont get it, no matter what I do the pi hole just doesnt block ads, i have like 6 million on my adlist and i still see ads everywhere, queries and blocks are coming in so i know its connected and working its just not blocking like any ads
Are you using chrome browser? Did you turn off the DNS function in the chrome settings? This worked for me. However some ads still make it through every once and awhile.
@@UltimateTechHub , I have no kids, but my default DNS already blocks all known fishy sites (which often includes porn). But it's not something I worry about anyways. As long as it's not blocking my movie streaming, I'm good.
Took me for a surprise , first time saw someone giving a recipe in middle of tech guide .. 😅

That's a great cocktail for my next episode! Black Russian and ? Stay tuned my friend! Cheers!
@uglybob7505 Does it block all RUclips ads? How did you manage to do this?
Does this block youtube ads? Thanks.
Nope. There ways to block RUclips ads but not with Pihole. Thank you for watching.
I don't understand the Pi-Hole thing. but the Cocktail looks cool 😀
That's probably the popular opinion! Lol! Cheers my Friend!

@@UltimateTechHub Thats why I use docker. Takes care of itself with the updates.
How to install pihole+ unbound ( recursive DNS ) on truenas ?
trying to update gravity and it says DNS resolution is currently unavailable. What is causing this?
I got the same problem, any updates on this one or any solutions?

@@UltimateTechHub yeah that was my problem its all fixed now thanks, btw awesome video!
Why would anyone block adult websites?
Think about the kids, son.
Exactly!

@@rUmXz , I'm an adult with no kids :P
I should point out I suck at being funny. Comes with spending too many years in the Navy.
@Luckdragon2000 Same here. I'm 41, still single and no kids.
