Somehow I consider her "true beginning" to be when she actually did come back after her second really long break. She has always been extremely talented but I think the industry was not ready for her yet way back in 2005 (and she felt that) and then in 2009 when she put out "Life is Good" (which I would love for her to re-record it) somehow things didn't go that well either. I didn't know her back then but when I started getting into kpop in 2016 I found the hiphop/rap side of it too and through that I naturally found Jessi ... and one of my female favs Yoon MiRae. I think Jessi needed her two "breaks/pauses" to sorta find herself. When she did return to music in 2015 on Unpretty Rapstar and then released "Ssenunni" after that is when I consider her to really have debuted. Or re-debuted. And the popularity of 2ne1 and the strong female characters they were reflected on what Jessi felt she was and gave her more confidence in going exactly that route and become the Jessi we know today. Although I have been wondering what is going on with her in the last year. She is once again in a phase of finding herself, not knowing a direction and trying out many things. There was Psy, then Jay Park ... leaving both of their labels. I was surprised when she left Jay Park so quickly... that seemed like a good match at first. The real Jessi was already there from the beginning but I think she needed a few others to make her brave enough to show herself to the world. She is the absolute boss lady on stage but I think she is very vulnerable and emotional in private or off camera.
