- We don't go "over the top" with our first day of homeschool traditions...overall, it's a pretty typical day. But there ARE a few things I do to kick off the homeschool year and make the first day just a little more special!

To start our school year off with a "blast", we are going to set off fireworks at night. We bought some extra fireworks on the Fourth of July to make it easy. Since it is at night, Dad gets to share in the memories too!

We're not too fancy, lol! But it's definitely fun to do a few "little things" to kick off the year 🙂.
@@blessedhomeschool I just usually put out new school supplies and that’s about it! So…I thought maybe I would try a little harder this year! We’re starting August 19th, so I have some time.
My kids are usually on their own for breakfast as well. I meal prep a huge batch of different things at the beginning of the month so them to pop in the microwave. I love that you make funetti pancakes! I’m totally going to add that in!
Pancake breakfast here too! First day photos with the signs, new games or supplies as little gifts. Slow starts with only maths and LA for the first few weeks. We love it

I use Rolos candy, tape a Hershey kiss to the end, then use yellow construction paper and pink construction paper on the end with a foil strip and it looks like a pencil. I write the kids name on it, they love it! This is the first year we’ll be starting a homeschool year without my oldest, he graduated in May. But I strongly suspect he’ll still get a pencil, my heart is not ready to let him go quite yet. ❤😢

We like to swim after the first day if weather permits. It's usually fine (Texas). We start Aug 5th. Makes it feel like summer isn't quite over.

We do the breakfast in bed for my boys. Followed by a scavenger hunt for their school supplies, then by First Day of School Activity worksheets, got stickers to personalize their stuff and then one of the kids picks dinner for that night. Simple but fun way to begin :) Oh, and of course the photos with the signs :)

We have always had color coded cups (and now they use different mugs). I can’t imagine the chaos that would ensue with everyone just grabbing random cups all the time 😂
Love all your ideas! The water bottles are so practical, yet so fun. Another idea would be to add stickers so they could personalize their cups. Also, froyo is awesome! You're right. it is so expensive, but a nice treat to have. I'll keep that in mind!

My favorite tradition of ours for the first day of school is our homemade cinnamon roll breakfast with bacon and berries 🥰 I love that it’s a fun (and delicious!) breakfast that I can prep the night before!
Yum!! Cinnamon rolls are my Christmas go-to, they're so much fun to make!
We had the cup issue too so now we use water bottles and I cut down on the amount we have. That has helped a lot with having less dishes.

My 13 year old just drinks a small portion of her water then dumps it out 😮💨 we can't drink the tap water where we leave and there's 7 of us on one income. So still trying to figure her out

So relatable with the thousand cups everywhere. The water bottle idea is great .. (we could use them for soccer season as well.) Wondering if there is a carrying case or sling you could buy for that kind of water bottle.
I like to have my kids fill out the back-to-school interview papers so they can look back each year. But my oldest did not enjoy the picture with her sign lol 😆

Fun! I got a small inexpensive chalkboard from Amazon last year to do pictures. The kids have had fun filling it out. Before that I just printed out a “first day of _ “ sign on paper.
Did you get one chalkboard and then your kids just took turns with it?
@@blessedhomeschool it was a small one for $7 at the time and had categories pre painted in. But yes, I just got one and my daughter wrote them in & we took pictures, then erased and wrote for my son and took more pictures. It worked out well for us.
Just a thought, what about giving the kids a peice of paper and having them make their own sign!!

We don’t do anything special the first day, but at the end of the first week I take them out for fancy breakfast 😊 at their favorite restaurant.

Oh! I want to do froyo! I have a dairy free child so I don’t know how nice that would be for her though :( We do do ice cream, but we have been doing that since the beginning and she just gets candy, so she is used to that. Plus, our ice cream place is a steal of a deal… so there is that!
That's a great option! I would prefer ice cream to the fro-yo, but the kids love it 😂
