      If I ever had a baby on the floor there are two ways that would have gone:
      1. See them immediately, call for help, and then take my shirt off and wrap them in it.
      2. Freak out, not know what to do at all, and stare at them confused before calling for help and grabbing them. Then I’d probably just hold them for a bit.

      WaSH and nutrition are the main contributors to increased life expectancy and health gains, so there's that. Luckily I've never met a doctor who wasn't humble about their role in the healthcare system. When I worked at an intermediary ward at the tail end of the pandemic in my country, our attending MD never stopped emphasizing the role hygiene played. She'd kick people's butts into gear if rooms weren't prepared for the cleaners to their jobs after a patient was discharged. No cleaning = no way to deliver good health care.

    In higher-budget movies and re-enactments of births the "newborns" are actually babies that have been born prematurely. They would be filmed around 9 months of gestational age, so they would have the size and features of a full-term newborn, but by now they've been out in the world for 1-2 months and it's a lot less dangerous for them.

I remember I said I wanted to sit at one of the cafes and rest while everyone else went on a ride. My aunt apparently didn’t like that because she said she’d stay and “sit with me.” When everyone left she started yelling at me and calling me a “tremendous inconvenience” and said I was just being dramatic and wanted attention. Ever since then, I have a lot of issues with letting people know when I feel sick because I worry a lot about inconveniencing people and ruining their time. It was such a relief when i met my husband and we moved in together for him to normalise periods for me, he keeps track more than i ever did and always buys enough tampons and pads at the right time and junk food to get me through it, he was raised by his mum and as soon as he was old enough to dash to the shop for the odd thing he was buying sanitary products for his mum (and himself, he gets bad nosebleeds sometimes and tampons are really great for nosebleeds). Haha i ask him if he has any tampons left if ive run out and he legit pulls one out of his pocket. He was working as a first aider at a concert and a woman has started her period in the middle of the day wearing white shorts. She hadnt noticed yet but my husband noticed the stain on her shorts and called her over, informed her that she had started herr period, gave her a tampon amd a spare pair of shorts out of his own personal bag and escorted her to the portaloo walking closely behind her the whole time to hide the stain on her shorts from others that might have mocked her. He waited till she was done, and made sure she was alright before leaving her. This is the type of thing i wish someone would do for our twin girls if we arent around

    I only once did a CT scan of a one-year old, we tend to avoid them(radiation etc) but this was a special case
    When I saw the 3D reconstruction of the head, just bones I was socked. I know the anatomy and all but to see it there, with my eyes
    Have to say, nature is a genius in everything it does but holy molly did that looked freaky... I wish someone made a pic of our faces when we saw that image for the first time

    I had the paragard iud for 8 years and irregular cycles. Thought I was on my period, and a couple days in was at an amusement park riding rides. My bleeding went from typical to dripping down my leg. I removed my tampon and huge blood clots came out. Thought it was just a bad cycle, put another tampon in but by the time we walked to the next rr spot it was dripping down my legs again. I was in so much pain, but my cycles are always bad. After the profuse bleeding and clots, I finally went to er and they found I was pregnant and miscarrying. It still took me 2 more weeks to finally lose the baby naturally. Dr thinks I lost the baby days prior which is why my bleeding began and the roller coaster rides did exactly what happened here. Iud was properly in place, baby was implanted high up in uterus as expected too.

      How terrible, I got pregnant and miscarried with an IUD, too, and remember how upsetting it was for everyone (doctor, family, close friends) to just be like "well it's a happy ending, you didn't want to have a baby, stop being so upset about it". I hope you got more compassionate treatment, it really messed with my head, feeling that I couldn't trust anticonceptives, constantly freaked out that I would get pregnant again. I also felt awful that maybe the miscarriage was my fault somehow, even though I didn't want a baby at that point in my life.
      Fast forward a decade, my partner and I trying and failing to conceive, we ended up needing IVF to have kids. The irony.

    GYN question: I had a bilateral salpingectomy a few years ago (electively), and I was wondering---since I don't have Fallopian tubes but I DO have functioning ovaries, where do the eggs go when I ovulate? (I know I probably should've asked my surgeon, but the thought didn't even occur to me at the time.)

    • @MamaDoctorJones
      @MamaDoctorJones  4 года назад +88

      They're microscopic and when they "die" (8-12 hours after ovulation) they are just break down naturally. Same thing that happens in a lot of cycles with the tubes still there, actually.
