Can we just talk about how AWESOME MDJ is? She is a doctor, and yet she never looks down upon other people for their jobs. She's praising the bathroom attendant for her work and loves her as a person. I work on a university campus and so many faculty are disrespectful and flaunt their status against the custodians. It's such a nice change to see a doctor not putting herself on a high pedestal.
WaSH and nutrition are the main contributors to increased life expectancy and health gains, so there's that. Luckily I've never met a doctor who wasn't humble about their role in the healthcare system. When I worked at an intermediary ward at the tail end of the pandemic in my country, our attending MD never stopped emphasizing the role hygiene played. She'd kick people's butts into gear if rooms weren't prepared for the cleaners to their jobs after a patient was discharged. No cleaning = no way to deliver good health care.
McMrs. McGee I told the nurse at the hospital that my ‘cramps’ (which I get rarely, maybe 1-2 times a year) are legit under a 2 from a 0-10 pain scale. She told me “you will have terrible cramps someday in the future” and I was like ok wtf is this nurse on drugs or does she know something I don’t 😂 I’ve had periods for 11 years, but I’ve never heard that cramping increases with age, so I don’t know if she’s, as I said trolling or something 🤔
I find some of the euphemisms for a period to be hilarious and use them myself BECAUSE they are funny. Examples: shark week, red tide, monthly subscription to Lucifer's waterfall
My little sister came so fast that my parents didn't have enough time to get to the hospital - drove 2 minutes down the road before mom convinced dad to turn around. As soon as they got inside, baby Gloria came head first onto the bathroom floor, and my poor dad felt so horrible for not being quick enough to catch her! Thankfully, she was healthy and there were no complications.
I can't imagine how scary these types of situations are for the mothers involved. When I was a little kid I was shopping in walmart with my mom (a registered nurse) and a woman went into labor in the middle of the store. My mom helped the woman deliver the baby and the baby was out by the time the EMTs got there. They ran the story in our local paper haha.
My granddad delivered three of my grandma's babies at home. He's a Russian farmer and truck driver. Not sure if he'd participated in other deliveries beforehand or just delivered a lot of livestock.

@@irinakl441 That's what I was wondering. We're generally told not to move someone who potentially has a head or spinal injury or seizure or whatever. Dear Dr. Jones, my 11 year old son asked me today how a period works. I did my best to explain it but I know you would do it better. Could you please do a kid-friendly explanation video of periods and/or how babies are made? I’d be very appreciative and I’m sure some others would be too! Thanks for all your amazing videos! Greetings from Switzerland, AMS
@a amsswiss ummm or educate yourself about these processes😒 and then figure out how to translate that into kid language🙄. Don’t rely on someone else to educate YOUR kids
@@nevaeha4048 they're asking a professional who loves to educate whether they can make a video explaining a topic to children. She's a lot more knowledgeable than a lot of people on this subject because she's an obgyn with 4 kids. I worked in a dental clinic and the dentist was joking around with this young female patient if she was pregnant, because her oral hygiene was really good but her gums are inflamed and she was very sensitive to the clean that day. Months later she told us she was pregnant and the dentist was the first to pick up on it.
In higher-budget movies and re-enactments of births the "newborns" are actually babies that have been born prematurely. They would be filmed around 9 months of gestational age, so they would have the size and features of a full-term newborn, but by now they've been out in the world for 1-2 months and it's a lot less dangerous for them.
People who are expecting multiples (therfore in risk of early birth) are recruited by the movie industry so they can swap around the babys to minimise the air time/increase chances of having a happy interchangeable baby around.
@@fionafiona1146 it also helps with child labor laws! If Baby A is at their maximum number of hours worked, they can just sub in Baby B and keep filming
my husband walked in on me watching this episode and just stared at me until i explained i was watching an OBGYN react to "i didn't know i was pregnant"
My only thought is that that everyone was worried that the baby could have been severely injured by falling head first that they were hesitant to pick him up without the professionals around.
Yeah, general advice for head injuries is not to move the patient. Still, I don't think anybody in the family was thinking that clearly. A little surprised the RN didn't do more, though.
I've had 2 precipitous labors under 3 hours start to finish and when they start so rapidly honestly it doesn't feel like labor it genuinely feels like you're dying. With my first I went from a 2 to a 10 cm dilated in just under 15 minutes.
Melissa Coolen Isn’t that the feeling of labor in general? 🤔 But tbh I would prefer a fast labor over a long one but that is some extreme stuff right there. I’m sure it was worth it in the end ❤️😊 You’re so strong!!!
@@miegravgaardxoxo All my labors were long (all over 12 hours, the longest took 36 hours) and at the begining its just like your regular period cramps. Not much fun, but tolerable. Not like dying.
This is the first video uploaded since I’ve given birth to my daughter (my first baby and first pregnancy) This video hits different now that I know what it’s like to be pregnant and labor, this poor woman 😭 I also know what it feels like to not have any symptoms and not get a positive pregnancy test, I begged the hospital to do a blood test instead of a urine test and I was right 😂 I was 14 weeks pregnant when I found out and now I’m watching this video with my 13 day old daughter in my lap
Thanks you two! Had her at 35 weeks due to severe preeclampsia and very blessed to bring her home at 4 days old with no health issues for either of us!
I love these birth stories so much LOL it makes me realize I am not alone in not making it to the hospital. Basically in 2015 my daughter decided to come before we made it to the hospital, we were literally on a toll bridge during rush hour and the ambulance had to pull over so I could deliver her, she was the paramedic's first baby, and my midwife's first ambulance birth. We were popular while we were in the hospital 😂 she can literally say she stopped traffic when she was born
When you said “your gums are more likely to bleed if you’re pregnant” I was LITERALLY in the middle of brushing my teeth and wondering why my gums were bleeding. I had a small panic but then remembered I’m a single lesbian. 😂 so I think I’m probably okay. Just need to floss more lol.
I remember I was really sick during a trip to Disneyland when I was about 15. I have a neurological condition that causes a lot of pain and I was undiagnosed at the time. I remember I said I wanted to sit at one of the cafes and rest while everyone else went on a ride. My aunt apparently didn’t like that because she said she’d stay and “sit with me.” When everyone left she started yelling at me and calling me a “tremendous inconvenience” and said I was just being dramatic and wanted attention. Ever since then, I have a lot of issues with letting people know when I feel sick because I worry a lot about inconveniencing people and ruining their time. So, I understand the moms feelings of not wanting to ruin everyone’s time because she feels sick.
I can see how she would go all that time in pain. I had an 80% collapsed lung for eight hours before I finally went into the ER. I was running errands and spending the day with family. I didn’t wanna burden anybody. I was so deliriously in pain I wasn’t thinking straight.
I remember one distinct time when I got my period while staying at my grandma's place as a teenager. She asked if I was sick and I answered, completely oblivious: no, I'm good, I just have my period. Turned out we were talking about the same thing. XD
@@actuallyNo... My grandma is from the 1910s... and she never had any issue with calling it a menstrual cycle, despite being traditional, rural, Canadian country folk (although I realize that's possibly rare and pretty lucky). I started bleeding during pregnancy. Turns out I was in labor at 22 weeks, I got hospitalized for a week and then my son was born at 23 weeks. So far 7 weeks down in the NICU and 10 weeks to go, if things go as planned (maybe less if things go very well)
I wanna clarify this humor comes from that horror we all know when they manage to roll over unsupervised and yeet themselves off a couch or bed that first time Or is it just my overachievers who always waited until I had to pee?
@@amandamoore7512 Nope. My son decided to roll off the sofa bed and end up head down, butt up, wedged between the frame and the wall. His sister lay under the bed so she could be face to face with him, patting him and saying "'S o.k. o.k. baby" while I was in the bathroom. Didn't yell for me, just assumed in typical toddler fashion that I'd fix it at some point. Mine moved super early.
Hahaha you're stories ring so true for me as well. With my second baby (girl) she shocked literally everyone with how early she began to hold her head up, roll over etc. She was full on crawling (not scooting) at 5 months old. Therefore she was rolling like a pro by 2months old. 😣 she yeet'd herself off a friend's couch right in front of us 🤦 I felt like I had to prove I was a good mom to this friend every time I saw her since, bc of that instance LOL
@@ZeppeIl Right? Our (not regular) doc asked where all my daughters bruises came from and was shocked by me saying "I don't know." She climbs on EVERYTHING and pays no attention to where she's going. She's also started throwing herself on the ground to have a toddler tantrum, so her arms and knees are just awful.
A friend of ours delivered a baby in a restroom once. He was a U.S. Army medic with an aviation unit. They were doing some demos at an airshow at Rammstein Air Base in Germany. A young German woman had gone into labor and was delivering in the ladies room. My friend and his crew ran into the restroom with their gear and delivered the baby, safe and sound. Something they were not used to doing. They mostly are trained to treat battle wounds and accident trauma.
I had my daughter in my mother’s car out the front of the local convenient store very early in the morning, when I was 19. I delivered her my self just as the ambulance showed up. I couldn’t imagine how I would have felt if I didn’t know what was going on 😳 (She turned 14 yesterday)
Hon YOU do deliver even if there was a hundred people around you, unless you have a cesarian. The person down at the end of the table is catching your beautiful newborn, BUT you do all the work. Give yourself credit if you ever have another. BUT the fact that you did that by yourself in a car is truly AMAZING!!! Kudos to you hon. ❤️❤️
My dad was the most awkward when my period first started. I lived with my mum but was visiting my dad. While laying down with some cramps, he walked in and said "I heard you've started your goobie" GOOBIE! No one has ever called it that before. 😂
8:46 I get so tired of guys who can’t even say the word “period.” My brother loses it if anyone says “uterus,” “period,” or “tampon.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to discuss my period in detail with my brother, but he’s almost a grown man and he’s gonna have a girlfriend at some point and she is not gonna be okay with him getting grossed out about a natural thing her body does that she doesn’t control. Can’t wait until she yells at him for being such a jerk. 😂 And I have a feeling her words are gonna carry a lot more weight than mine.
Omg my dad and brother are exactly the same, totally avoided calling sanitary products by name, my dad would say "oh you mum told me you need money to buy some things" im like just fudging say it i need tampons, like i get why mum told him because he worked and always had more money than her but she always did the monthly shopping, she could have bought enough sanitary products to go through five girls and her but noooo she only ever bought enough for herself and the type of products she liked to use without thinking about us or what we preferred to use. It was such a relief when i met my husband and we moved in together for him to normalise periods for me, he keeps track more than i ever did and always buys enough tampons and pads at the right time and junk food to get me through it, he was raised by his mum and as soon as he was old enough to dash to the shop for the odd thing he was buying sanitary products for his mum (and himself, he gets bad nosebleeds sometimes and tampons are really great for nosebleeds). Haha i ask him if he has any tampons left if ive run out and he legit pulls one out of his pocket. He was working as a first aider at a concert and a woman has started her period in the middle of the day wearing white shorts. She hadnt noticed yet but my husband noticed the stain on her shorts and called her over, informed her that she had started herr period, gave her a tampon amd a spare pair of shorts out of his own personal bag and escorted her to the portaloo walking closely behind her the whole time to hide the stain on her shorts from others that might have mocked her. He waited till she was done, and made sure she was alright before leaving her. This is the type of thing i wish someone would do for our twin girls if we arent around
My boyfriend used to cringe every time I said it, so I made it my personal mission to just talk about all things woman, to the point he is now desensitized and won't even bat an eyelash 😂
When I was born the cord was wrapped twice round my neck and I was suffocating. They tried to slip it over my head but it was too tight. They had to cut it while it was under pressure, apparently I then shot out very quickly and blood went everywhere all over the newly painted delivery suite 😆
I love this, only because I'm picturing the poor janitors being called to clean, and the maintenance order to repaint. (Which depending on the hospital, that wouldn't be repainted for like 5 years)

I would be scared that I would hurt his head more or maybe he broke an arm and I’d hurt that. Maybe that’s another reason why no one picked him up ... 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Omg I literally yelled at my phone this whole time the first time I watched this, “pick him up!!! Pick up the damn baby!!” I’m glad I’m not the only one!!
I had the paragard iud for 8 years and irregular cycles. Thought I was on my period, and a couple days in was at an amusement park riding rides. My bleeding went from typical to dripping down my leg. I removed my tampon and huge blood clots came out. Thought it was just a bad cycle, put another tampon in but by the time we walked to the next rr spot it was dripping down my legs again. I was in so much pain, but my cycles are always bad. After the profuse bleeding and clots, I finally went to er and they found I was pregnant and miscarrying. It still took me 2 more weeks to finally lose the baby naturally. Dr thinks I lost the baby days prior which is why my bleeding began and the roller coaster rides did exactly what happened here. Iud was properly in place, baby was implanted high up in uterus as expected too.
How terrible, I got pregnant and miscarried with an IUD, too, and remember how upsetting it was for everyone (doctor, family, close friends) to just be like "well it's a happy ending, you didn't want to have a baby, stop being so upset about it". I hope you got more compassionate treatment, it really messed with my head, feeling that I couldn't trust anticonceptives, constantly freaked out that I would get pregnant again. I also felt awful that maybe the miscarriage was my fault somehow, even though I didn't want a baby at that point in my life. Fast forward a decade, my partner and I trying and failing to conceive, we ended up needing IVF to have kids. The irony.
The bathroom attendant is my fav person XD "I'm glad that baby was born on a clean floor" -bathroom attendant Somebody get this lady a promotion or a large sum of money or something
GYN question: I had a bilateral salpingectomy a few years ago (electively), and I was wondering---since I don't have Fallopian tubes but I DO have functioning ovaries, where do the eggs go when I ovulate? (I know I probably should've asked my surgeon, but the thought didn't even occur to me at the time.)
They're microscopic and when they "die" (8-12 hours after ovulation) they are just break down naturally. Same thing that happens in a lot of cycles with the tubes still there, actually.
@@katiek.982 yeah if your ovaries stopped working (ovulating) as a result of "having your tubes tied" you would see women go into early menopause and I'm certain that would be a side effect that would come up a lot when considering the procedure.

Yees. I love her❤
My little sister won't call her period a period. She calls it "the dreadful" and I find it both hilarious and accurate lol
My daughter and I sometimes call it Satan's Waterfall.
Beckie Hubley Lol 😂 as someone who has a very quick and no cramps period I can’t relate to this title 😅
@@miegravgaardxoxo I used to have periods like that when I worked out. But then corona
@@miegravgaardxoxo sometimes mine are like that and other times I'm on my death bed..
Can you imagine her poor mother as her husband comes running out of the bathroom yelling "OUR DAUGHTER JUST HAD A BABY!!!"
This bathroom attendant deserves a raise. And maybe to be the child's godmother.
Yassss!😄❤
I would have at least given the child the middle name Verma after the bathroom attendent
Being a god parent isn’t an honor it’s just responsibility tbh.
Exactly I would make her the godmother definitely.
I find some of the euphemisms for a period to be hilarious and use them myself BECAUSE they are funny. Examples: shark week, red tide, monthly subscription to Lucifer's waterfall
I love that those types of euphemisms horrify the people who treat period as a dirty word even more than period does.
Satans sacrificial waterfall is my go to.
@@gracenicoll6861 I'm using that now. Thanks!
Glaciergirl V2 no problem sis!
I use shark week. My boyfriend hates it and would prefer I just call it my period, but I think it's hilarious.
That’s so nice :)
Turn on your ac mama we care more about your health and comfort than the audio quality
Yes!
Exactly!
She's in Texas right? Turn it on, you should be comfortable in your own house
Ac is just a buzzing sound right? I've never heard one that was very noisy, so yes turn it on!
Yes exactly like why suffer! People can deal with a couple months of supposedly bad audio than her health to suffer
THAT is a crazy story. Glad all went well!
My mom had my sister on the hallway floor in the hospital because they didn't believe her
My granddad delivered three of my grandma's babies at home. He's a Russian farmer and truck driver. Not sure if he'd participated in other deliveries beforehand or just delivered a lot of livestock.
I bet your mom didn't leave the baby on the floor.
@@millisagable1318 Hope your sister is allright. Hopefully that thought them a lesson.
Fun fact: The symbol in the window of the bathroom attendant is of kokopelli, the Native American god of fertility!
What a great coincidence! Maybe there was that god with her helping her. :)
All hail Kokopelli!
As a Narive American, we've never had any "gods" in our culture. I'll look it up or I can ask my grandma's
i'm bored “Kokopelli is a fertility deity, usually depicted as a humpbacked flute player (often with feathers or antenna-like protrusions on his head), who is venerated by some Native American cultures in the Southwestern United States. @@nevaeha4048 they're asking a professional who loves to educate whether they can make a video explaining a topic to children. I worked in a dental clinic and the dentist was joking around with this young female patient if she was pregnant, because her oral hygiene was really good but her gums are inflamed and she was very sensitive to the clean that day. Months later she told us she was pregnant and the dentist was the first to pick up on it.
When I heard the bathroom attendant went to the hospital to check on her I burst out in tears. That’s so incredibly sweet
That actually really neat!

They could have at least covered the baby with a sweater or something
The bathroom attendant needs a raise. I hope she was invited to the child's 1st birthday 😭
I’m a little surprised that the nurse didn’t immediately try to resuscitate the newborn. She definitely should not have run away from the scene
The nurse had a radio she should’ve stayed and assess the baby and mom while radioing for help.

They must be used to some serious cramping for sure 😅
I've had 2 precipitous labors under 3 hours start to finish and when they start so rapidly honestly it doesn't feel like labor it genuinely feels like you're dying. With my first I went from a 2 to a 10 cm dilated in just under 15 minutes.

@@miegravgaardxoxo All my labors were long (all over 12 hours, the longest took 36 hours) and at the begining its just like your regular period cramps. Not much fun, but tolerable. Not like dying.
Another way to look at it, at least the bathroom floor was clean, not sterile but not as dirty as the bathroom floor gets.

XD

She climbs on EVERYTHING and pays no attention to where she's going.
Binge watching “ I didn’t know I was pregnant” and loving it! The medical commentary combined with the fun stories is just awesome!
I agree, it's completely ridiculous. It's a bodily function, not a black hole in space.
Saying pads and tampons is just like saying tissues and toilet paper.

The irony.

@@MamaDoctorJones Aaaah! Thanks so much for answering my question (and so fast!). That's super interesting.

when I was laboring my daughter's dad decided he needed to clean the kitchen floor til it was spotless.. not even 5 minutes after he had finished, I had my hardest and most painful contraction which lead to my water breaking all over the nice clean floor..
As someone who at a family day trip had pretty bad period cramps and didn't feel like they could tell her family or her dad especially, even after he stayed behind when he realised I wasn't doing well, I definitely appreciate the openness in that family.
