  • The Danish singer Carl Brisson, Paramount's replacement for Maurice Chevalier, introduced this topical number in the 1934 film 'Murder At The Vanities.' The lyric celebrates the joys of a United States without the National Prohibition Act, which was repealed around this time. "No longer slinking/ respectably drinking/ like civilized ladies and men..." A suave, dressy image is conveyed by this song, which was ruthlessly and cleverly lampooned more than a decade later by Spike Jones and His City Slickers.
