    Watch the whole match (it's on youtube). Owings had Gable frantically crawling off the mat multiple times!

    Kudos to clearly show the back points from a different camera angle. No shame to lose to Larry Owings who is also a deserving champion.

    Only a loser in life could dislike Dan Gable he one of the men who taught me how to compete to Win at all cost & all the time for fun.

    Dan Gable was the winner of this match. Look what he did after the match. Greatness!

    Larry Ownings is a true class act. Being the guy who beat Gable is on par with being the guy to beat Jesse Owens and he has absolutely no arrogance about it.

    How about a movie titled "The Man Who Beat Dan Gable"?

    Love Dan Gable and he accomplished so many things, but I'd rather lose every match in my career to had one moment to be in Larry Owings position, just imagine how he felt to be the man that ended the win streak of the Greatest Wrestler of all time.

    Larry Owings was no slouch and does not deserve to be considered a "fluke" wrestler. Different circumstances. Dan had fatherly love, a hard mother, and his sister's murder propelling him. Think Larry had a fatherly brother and father figure coaches to support a former fat kid raised on an Oregon farm. Great story there contrasting their respective lives.

    Damn this made me tear up a bit. I couldn't even imagine the pain that Gable felt. If It were me I'd just run until I couldn't run anymore like forest gump...

    Holy shit no one in the world knows what this feels like! As a wrestler maybe your senior year in high school and your number one seed and you fail at the finals . Even then not even close to the terror of emotions he must have felt in those last 3 seconds.

    Fly U are correct, Larry Owings wouldn't have gotten that far unless he was good.

      He wouldn't have gotten that far if he wasn't amazing. Good doesn't begin to describe an athelete at that level. Good is what many are that never even see a national championahip. Let alone win it lol.

    @greatdanebarca Agree in some respect, but Owings not being able to consolidate this victory in the following 2 finals appearances may have diminished his status in wrestling lore. Owings sure doesn't get the credit he deserves--the vision and conceptualization of his quest was, in my opinion, put in motion picture form with VISION QUEST. TAKEDOWN with Lorenzo Lamas my all-time favorite amateur wrestling movie...If ever come across original VHS version, please advise.

    I never knew how childish and selfish Gable was. Your team wins a national championship and all you can say is poor me. Gable was a good winner but a terrible champion!

    Yes, the psychological tactic does work. Muhammad Ali used this tactic and it worked most of the time. I have to give Larry Owings his credit when credit is due. They both stepped on the mat and the better man won that day (Larry Owings). Dan Gable is still a great wrestler though.

    Gable leads the series 2-1...Dunno if I'd be in favor of an Old-Timers Rematch, but Owings gets out there with young guys at clinics still.

      I saw the video of Larry Owings rolling with the HS kids and I'll say this > to this day the man CAN WRESTLE, he is 70 now and there is not another 70 yr old on the planet who could beat him.

    @greatdanebarca maybe if gable wouldnt have whipped his ass at the olympic trials a couple years later then it would be different plus he didnt win nationals again yes he had the confidence to "out Gable" gable buti t only worked once

  • @TheSpiderbat44
    @TheSpiderbat44 11 лет назад

    Keep in mind that Owings WANTED to beat Dan. It was no accident, if he regretted it later it was nobody's fault.

    A major motion picture is a great idea but it would be just wrong to concentrate on the ncaa final match alone. Dan Gable deserves nothing short of a 5 star movie of his entire life story from childhood through olympic gold and coaching at iowa. Dans life story if told properly should make one of the greatest movies ever. The only problem is what actor in hollywood could do him justice. Seriously think about it,come on. Step up someone PLEASE.

  • @FlyTilDawn17

    @DJScrew123 Gable surrendered only 1 point in Trials & Olympics combined ... Owings scored the onlypoint on a takedown Owings was no slouch ... 2 bad he finished 2nd Place as #1 seed in NCAAs each of his final 2 yrs.

  • @777Skeptic
    @777Skeptic 10 лет назад +1

    They haven't met or spoke to each other since that match, except at the Olympic Trials were Gable beat Owings 7-1, and a very brief phone call where Owings was inquiring Gable about a wrestler.
    I would love to seem them speak on Oprah or something.
