Ford RS200 Rebuild! Great Progress And Much Detail. Part - 10

The Bluebird Project team is really getting the hang of working with smashed honeycomb aluminium now. This stuff is not usually repaired so we're breaking new ground, which is gaining interest from people who work with honeycomb panels and adhesive specialists. You're just not supposed to fix this stuff. If it's bent, corroded or damaged you throw it away but this is not only an iconic car, it's an iconic example of that iconic car. It's one of one - totally irreplaceable and mentioned in the bible of RS200s as a 'notable chassis'.
Way back in 2001 when the team said they would rebuild Donald Campbell's Bluebird back to running order from a shattered wreck, salvaged from a lake after 34 years, many 'experts' said it simply couldn't be done and that most of it would end up as scrap, used only for patterns. But it didn't - have a look at our Progress videos on this channel and you'll see what we mean.
So when we started to pull down the RS200 chassis we were told that wouldn't fix either but the Bluebird Project team has spent 20 years looking at broken stuff and wondering how it might fix. That's our mantra, by the way, 'It'll Fix' and we live by it.
Here in part 10 of our ground up restoration of Chassis #068 you can see we're getting braver and better at tackling a discipline that doesn't seem to exist, so we have to make it work!

Chassis number 068 was retired due to extreme damage in the crash-bang world of 90s rallycross then discovered years later in a field with grass growing through it. Now that the work on Bluebird K7 is on hold the award winning team is devoting its energy to resurrecting this icon.
