*This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*
I really like this electric motor. It's super quiet and very easy to handle. I lift this up easily with one hand and stow it away inside my yacht. So happy with this purchase. The battery to run it is another story.
Two years later this motor is going strong ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
Think about the fact that you will increase the resistance in that circuit when you extend the wires like you did. You MIGHT need to increase the thickness of the wires.
I use the Trac connectors to connect my MK Turbo 65 to my batteries and to a PWM unit I built after watching a RUclips video. Just got a 50ah lithium battery. Hopefully will get a chance to try it out on the water soon. The Tracs are very solid and I use 10 ga and 8 ga wire with them.
Great video awesome information. Im new to this whole world and have a question. Could I use a 86Ah deep cycle one a small HP motor or should I go with what's recommended? I'm just getting a little 2 or 3 HP motor. Thanks in advance man
Hi thanks for your video.I read where you said that the battery is water right up to the terminal points. If the battery did get submerged Would I get a shock from the battery? If wet hands touched the battery could I also get a shock?thank you.
It's not the terminals but lead acid batteries have removable caps on the top of it. They are water resistant and can be rained on no problem. But if submerged there is a chance of the battery flooding then its ruined. Wether your hand is wet or not the same rules apply even if they are dry, you cant get shocked unless you touch a metal object that is simultaneously touching both the positive and the negative terminals.
That may be true. I've been using the skiff without a breaker for over 8 years now. Like probably over 1200 fishing trips so far. Have been through everything and have had everything happen. My only guess is maybe the motors are better built nowadays to handle stuff like this. I really dont know. But I do know that I have no need for one based on my experiences. To each his or her own.
Hey brother! I took your advice from the video. I plan on taking my seahawk 4 eith a newport vessel 55ib thrust motor, out tmara mornin but I got an Urgent question, can the circuit breaker from my motor sit inside the battery box on top of the battery using a small piece of cardboard as a barrier thats taped down with electrical tape? Is this safe?
What is the best battery in your opinion for your buck? I have a 40# minn Kota and an ultraskiff 😀. Just need something you know works and holds up well. Thanks!
My favorite battery is the DC 27 Everstart from Walmart. It is inexpensive, has a lot of reserve power and is not too heavy to carry. My second favorite is the DC 24.
What's the name/brand of those connectors, and where can I get them? My plug is mounted into the boat and gets stepped on all the time. I want to use a plate to cover the ehole for the receptacle and just let the cable hang out. That way when it's plugged in it just lays flat on the deck.
If your talking about just the Wires then I just went to West Marine and got some spare 10 Gauge Marine Wiring. About 1$ a foot. Most Marine STores have Wiring. If your Talking about the Plugs they are called Trac Plugs. www.amazon.com/Outdoor-T10136-Gauge-Trolling-Connector/dp/B0080IGPFI
@@Ultraskiff I beg to differ, without a circuit breaker if that prop gets jammed to a stop while you have the motor on full thrust you have just seconds before you start damaging your motor. Its not just for protecting your wiring since neither Motorguide or Minn Kota will warranty a motor that has been damaged by high amp draw. High amp draw heats the wiring around the armature causing the insulation to become weak and crack allowing current to seep out which costs you power and eventually burns out the motor. Minn Kota even states in their manuals that "An over-current protection device must be used". It is also required by the US Coast Guard per Federal regulation though they have never checked for it in my experience.
Antrigen hey! I just bought my trolling engine and battery and 100% want the safest set up. I didn’t pay the best attention when we were covering batteries in class. What your recommendation for the safest but most efficient battery set up? I just need someone to tell me what I should buy and install.
They usaually recommend a 105 amp hour battery i have a 31group agm from duracell been good to me and comes with 3 year warranty cost around 200 bucks but u can get away with the lead acid 31 group from duracell thats what i had previously and upgraded to the agm. @Jackie Allgayer
Very poor video. I have same motor as yourself but my battery only has poles. You not show what product you are suing to use different type of connection. Does not help me at all

Great video...great info...had the whole astronaut speaking from the space-station vibe goin on because of those things in the background...lolzzz!😅
can you provide a link for the Track plugs you used. I cannot find them on Amazon

Howe long the battery should last
This may be a dumb question but can you charge the battery with the connector still attached or does it have to be removed? Nice tip
You must have a great sound system with those two huge speakers in the background! 😃

Thanks for that. I ordered two trolling motor connector kits!

Thanks for your quick reply, that’s good to know.
If motor jams up the breaker is there to protect it from drawing extra amps and melting wiring
That may be true. I've been using the skiff without a breaker for over 8 years now. Like probably over 1200 fishing trips so far. Have been through everything and have had everything happen. I just got a jon boat with a 6hp Johnson on it i and it does not have a trolling motor i will have to install a trolling motor
Did this void warranty
This was perfect!
With the connector kit attached to the battery how are you still able to recharge your battery?
The terminals and Posts are still exposed and unchanged from before you installed it. The clamps from a charger clamp onto either one.

Well, That is the product we sell. Check out our website www.ultraskiff.com

What does it mean when it turns on and turns off
Those are called Anderson plugs, and you can get 5 pairs of them from eBay for $12 US.
Who manufactures this trolling motor kit?
The Brand I am using Here is Called Trac Plugs

They are called Trac Plugs. Most brands of TM also make their own version of them.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the help.
Or buy a 10 foot 10 gauge jumper cables from walmart for 7 dollars and cut the ends off.
U need to put a breaker on that positive connection bud no protection without one
nemzdroidx no breaker needed for a 12 V trolling motor that is not not connected to anything else.
