Are you guys going to see Operation Fortune?!
It felt like a different Director trying to emulate a Guy Ritchie film.
Haha right?
I'm not sure why our small town released this last month when it was delayed in other theaters, but I saw it. I'm a fan of the cast, and I loved Ritchie's "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch."
So, while I enjoyed the cast and some of the elements, I 100% agree with your assessment. I wanted to like this movie so much more than I did because the box office has been mostly crap so far this year. Having said that, it did have some fun bits, and that cast! I love Aubrey Plaza, and Hugh Grant's character was a hoot!
Thanks Dawn! We are on the same page with this one
I saw it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it for the most part. Definitely one of Ritchie’s weaker films but I really like his style. I heard that they had to trim the movie a lot because the antagonists were intended to be Ukrainian, which is problematic given the current state of things there.
They still have some in there
It was really flat compared to his more recent work. Something about it just didn't work.
It could have really been directed by anyone and lacked the stuff that makes Guy Ritchie's movies stand out.
To me it felt like a studio movie where he had a deal and had to put this film out before he was allowed to work on some stuff he wanted to work on.
Absolutely!
Hey there Brandon good to see you review some more good films I'm just writing some movie reviews for curse of the black pearl and I'm sure me and my grandpa might hangout and watch it together because my grandpa loves watching new movies
That's awesome! Hope you love it Lance!
I already watched it in January because they released it here in Germany so much earlier as in USA and I have to say that it's a fun time and kinda remembers me of the 80s/90s where the scale of blockbusters weren't that gigantic as we have these days. It's a mix of Mission Impossible and Massive Talent.
Interesting mix
I just watched it and it reminded me of a Mission: Impossible movie if you took out all the stunts, action scenes and overall _fun,_ so you’re just left with a bunch of characters walking around opulent parties and exotic locations while constantly bantering with each other over their earpieces for two hours.
Yeah, that is a good point
Jason Statham always acts the same way. He's always just him. And the script has to adapt to him. He's just the ultimate action tough guy. That's what he offers, never less, never more. If a director wants him in a movie, he knows what he will get. The best about this movie are Aubrey, Hugh Grant and Cary Elwes, always so classy, so elegant, and with his perfect english.
Totally!
The part where the gangster kinda film-producer fancies his favorite actor made me think about "Inglourious Bastards" only in the Tarantino movie it was well better executed.
although 'Fortune" is a great film and I loved the chemistry between Hugh and Josh ..it was very believable.
Thanks for the insight
The magic was not there
Definitely
Hey Brandon, just watched this one on Prime Video. I had no expectations because I've come to detest most Guy Ritchie's recent years movies but this one was funny. I laughed out loud several times all courtesy of the great Hugh Grant. He's having a blast playing these grotesque, eccentric, sarcastic villain roles lately and I'm loving it. Can't believe he's the same guy who played the male lead in 100 rom-coms throughout the 90's to early 2000's. I think I like him better now, he's a pretty good comedian
I think so too Monica!
I guess the main thing is nothing about the film stands out at all (aside from maybe High Grant). All the characters are underdeveloped and the plot makes no sense.
That's exactly it
You mentioned something about it having problems getting released to the public. Any specific problems in mind?
It was supposed to be released years ago... don't know why it kept getting pushed back... but it did
Just one of those movies I feel will be forgotten by the end of the year. I felt a lot of the same about it as you did.
Oh totally! It will be forgotten next week
About 35 min in and just not gettin into it. Also love the cast but its just not grabbin me :-/
Yeah I can see why
Wrath of Man was the first movie I seen when BC cinemas reopened. I thought Operation Fortune would be theatrically released in Canada.
Yeah... I am suprised!
Have you watched Rocknrolla? That's my favorite guy Ritchie film
I have not!
Tbh I think the comedic music scene worked for me
Great
fun movie to watch, good take on mission impossible
For sure
Haven't seen a Guy Ritchie movie at the cinema since the first Sherlock Holmes. 15 years? 🤣
Yep! It's been a while!
Great review as always Brandon
Thanks again!
I love Statham as an actor. But I will stream this film.
I think that is the only way to see it in North America
Are you excited for upcoming A24 Film Beau is Afraid
Not excited for it to be honest. But if I see it, I hope it's good!
I agree not his comfort zone , didn't know if it was mission impossible, James bond or bourne and got muddled, Hugh grant held the film together tbh legend of the sword was an amazing film great pace and not his usual type of film this was ok just not great the the gentleman or legend of the sword
Thanks for the insight!
I completely agree with you, i love the way you explain your opinions😊
Wow! Thank you so much Luciana! That really means a lot!
I'm not a big Guy Ritchie fan but I love Snatch, The Gentlemen, and Wrath of Man. I think those films are all great because Guy Ritchie presented those stories in a cool and unique way. He made their conventional stories feel unconventional. However, while the style and action was there in Operation Fortune, I just thought the movie was a bit too basic. Yeah it had fun moments but it did not do anything that made it feel like it stood out amongst Guy's other great films. So I was disappointed by this movie because I was ready to love it but I personally think it is just okay, and not that great, I agree.
Thanks for the insight Nathan!
Great review,
Guy Ritchie can be hit-and-miss
Sometimes.
It's last great film
If you haven't seen it yet
Is
The gentleman,
Character development with that is superb 👍
Really like that movie!
You have read a comment.
I read EVERY comment
Boring movie
That's too bad
Yea, it sucked
Sorry you didn’t like it
@@BrandoCritic yea man me too. I love most of Ritchie's flicks, especially the man from U.N.C.L.E.
terribly boring movie...
Not the most fun movie in the world
