I'll try to name these, though I'm probably going to miss some:
0:00 Early literature + Ancient Greek literature
0:16 Roman literature
0:30 Celtic folktales and mythology
0:41 Nordic mythology
0:51 Medieval European literature
1:03 English Renaissance literature
1:16 Spanish Renaissance literature
1:27 Literature about pirates and seafaring
1:42 German literature in general
1:53 Russian literature in general
2:08 Victorian Era literature (credit to @aaronluke1993 for correcting me)
2:19 American literature in general
2:31 The birth of modern science fiction, and children's books from the era.
2:39 Gothic literature
2:53 Horror literature
3:07 Modernism
3:23 Surrealism/symbolism
3:42 French literature from the mid-19th to early-20th century. Might be French literature in general.
3:53 Dystopias
4:08 Fantasy
4:22 Speculative science fiction.
4:32 Latin American literature, particularly during its post-WWII literary boom
4:42 Modern Italian literature
4:56 Modern Greek literature
5:06 Postmodernism
I wonder if Gravitys Rainbow would be in surrealism/symbolism or postmodernism?
@@SlickAndroid94 I think after the literary movement surrealism more became a trope, so I think it's still postmodernist
@@watching7721 good point.
I'm also kinda curious why Diary of a Wimpy Kid is in there? Is it postmodern in the sense that it blends a traditional prose novel with the medium of comics and a fictional diary? Or is the sense that Greg is trying to find satisfaction in his mundane life through fleeting middle school popularity.
@@SlickAndroid94 My guess is that it's an ironic story in an, at the time, experimental style that uses unreliable narration and self-reflexivity. Those are all common postmodernist literary traits.
So it's not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of postmodernist, but I could see a case for it
2:08 is the Victorian Era
1:38
I like the combination of Mr. Incredible as an angry Nietzsche with Rammstein's "Ich will" as backround song
My gratitudes as a Spaniard to include our literature in this video. Usted es un hombre de cultura
these edits are great for book recommendations, I've read most of these but I can always find a new one here and there, btw Sea Wolf by Jack London was GREAT, his writing style manages to be simple to understand but always conveys something deep and elegant in it.
Excellent! Favorites from this are Gothic Horror, Theatre of the Absurd, Latin American, and Postmodern literature.
Gueule
2:53 This is typically called Lovecraftian horror or cosmic horror.
Missed opportunity for an early-cyberpunk section with William Gibson, Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep, Snowcrash, literally the Cyberpunk 2020 rulebook, etc
I really dig that you put I Have a Special Plan for This World at the end. Love Current 93 and Ligotti!
I watch this videos mostly for the songs, but this one gave me some great reading suggestions, unfortunately I have been stuck on the same book for months now.
What have you been reading? Just curious (:

Amazing as always!
That's true
There is where you will unveil your special plan for the world. Your special, special plan
Предложение: Мистер Исключительный изучает кинематографию
He already did
That song from Mary Poppins, which was played for the 19th Century books... yeah, Mary Poppins was 20th Century. Also, Night on Bald Mountain was certainly the right choice for its bunch!
1:31 is the absolute best time
Suggestion:Mr Incredible studying Astronomy
This is very amazing stuff here
western frontier, londoner, and orthodox villager are peak comfy
YES I LOVE THE UPLOAD DAYS
Clicked for the Tolkien, stayed for the 19th century Gothic and early 20th Century American
Great job! I'm going to study Latin literature in Latin next year
3:34 OFF refrence in big 2024, now I've seen everything

Mother ost to high science fiction- hilarious!

PELEVIN, SOROKIN, PINCHON
I really only read stuff from 1960 and before
The music choices are mostly excellent, but I sort of miss cyberpunk and stuff.
Putting the Prose Edda right after Celtic lit is fucking funny
But and about books of Machado de Assis?
C'mon Lovecraft wasn't so bad
Where is perennials philosophy?
Why is Diary of a Wimpy Kid at the end?
First few were great
Please do with movie

@@combeferredesseventies1848 Nothing there.
What's the song for 3:23
Pepper Steak, the battle theme from OFF.
God bless
The fact that Fight Club is not on the last panel is an actual crime against humanity
Fight Club is not a book/flim that is a good influence.
@@Topgunandpattonsucks What makes you say that? Have you read Fight Club? You might be taking it too literally
Dude, wth is Ederlezi paired with Russian Literature? It's not even geographically correct.
Nooooo, Not “The Alchemist” being Brazil’s most famous literary work 🫠😭😭. Believe it or not, we have much better works. Check out Machado de Assis’ or Jorge Amado’s work if you want to see good Brazilian literature.
Brazil considers Paulo Coelho to be a self-help writer, yet people abroad love him.
