Discovering the True SOURCE of Happiness - Intro to Advaita Vedanta - Part 1

  • The sages of ancient India discovered that atma - the inner divinity or conscious essence of each person - is the true source of happiness. Failing to recognize that inner source of happiness, one endlessly seeks lasting happiness in the world without success.
Swami Tadatmananda is a traditionally-trained teacher of Advaita Vedanta, meditation, and Sanskrit. For more information, please see: www.arshabodha.org/

Interesting to hear from someone from Iran. I have often wondered if the esoteric teachings of Advaita Vedanta could be combined with Zoroastrianism to give Zoroastrianism a more mystical flavor.

just like Amanda Kwong says... Buddhas teachings derive from hinduism, the vedas and puranas... he makes some changes to it that deviate and make Buddhism dsitinctly different but the majority of it is the same. Similar with Jesus, his message is taken from the old testament canon and appocripha of the Jewish torah, he makes some changes to it that deviate and make christianity distinctly different but the majority of it is the same.
i would argue that if you compared the western religions of the holy book Christianity, islam, zoroastrianism, judaeism, and their anti belief system atheism, those systems are VERY different from the eastern religions that probably all derive from the vedas hinduism, daoism, buddhism, jainism, and even indeginius stuff like native american beliefs... The east are all very similar but very different from the west.
In the east 666 is lucky number the west is 777. infact, 108 is 36 three times... 36 is 6 x 6. The dragon is revered in the east. in the west the dragon is condemed. The eastern teachings harmonize with each other. The western teachings divide and clash with each other.... These are just some small differences from the two sides. but there are too many to count. it is clear that both sides come from something different and are apposed to each other.
The ONLY teacher in the west that is similar to the east is the sermon of Jesus in the apocryphal bible, not the canonical bible. Which is why india revers Jesus as well. according to scientists/historians Jesus disapeared for a while into the east... when he came back, his message was eastern but spoken in the western language/belief system that the west could understand/accept. ofcourse, he was killed and the majority of his sermon was later thrown out by emperor constantin and his church officals. And all who had what was considered blasphemy would be condemed and killed by the church.

@@alchemygal3285 Buddha didn't change anything! , Don't degrade him , he is one of the finest spiritual teachers of India. Like many , he also added a new treatise of spiritual wisdom by expanding the knowledge of the sages of the past and his knowledge to come up with the profound teachings of Buddhism. Don't think like the people in west.

    • @alchemygal3285

Kakashi Hatake its not just the people in the west. i understand how you are thinking. this is hindu teaching. but in the asian areas that teach buddhism and disregard the complete hindu teachings, they teach exactly what i said. they rever buddha as above all the hindu teachers... they dont degrade him... thats a matter of your opinion. if anything, they would say you have degraded the Buddha by putting him at the same level as the other *hindu* teachers. If you read the tripitaka and studied its history, you would have known the many passages that the buddha teaches how the other teachers are in error. he goes extensively over all the hindu teachers. its the same with jesus.. in the christian teaching they disregard the complete hindu teachings, but in india, the hindu teachings, they highly regard jesus. but the christians rever him as above all other teachers... most denominations worship him as God... they would say that hindus degrade Jesus... but that is a matter of their opinion and beliefs. sounds like you right? opinion and belief. again, its not just the people in the west, it is a christian who is not a hindu and it is a buddhist who is not a hindu.
i never degraded buddha by saying he made distinct different claims opposed to the hindu teachings. example, the hindus teach that there is an eternal self. the buddha teaches that there is no eternal self. that is just one distinct difference. my knowledge comes from reading the vedas, puranas, tripitaka, bible, apocrypha, quran, avestan, and so many others, etc. plus documentaries ,the current living teachers, and my college courses that focused on this area of knowledge. where does your knowledge come from? just india? or do you derive your knowledge from the whole world and all of their scriptures and interpretations? or just indian scripture and claims? its good to know the other ppls as well and how they think and to not disregard their opinions based on another groups beliefs.
anyway, there is no need for (!) excitement in ones speech. lets stay civil and peaceful on matters like this. if you wanted to know why i said what i said, you could have just asked me nicely and then reply with what you think strongly about and believe about the Buddha than back it up with your reasoning... out of love and compassion for me.. rather than with excitment and strong speech. It is is even taught by the Buddha in the Majjhima Nikaya, to not disparage or extol someone or a group of people when teaching. you dispparaged a huge group of people, the people in the west.
by disparaging a group of people, how does one expect to help that group when they spread a hint of hate towards them? when extoling a group of people, one has hightened those people over all others and then inadvertently disparaged all others, that are not in the category, as less.... Pride is blinding. it would serve one well to let go of attachment to these identities.

Desire like value is not out there nor in consciousness, it is the way consciousness interacts with the objects of the world, The interactions produce the objects of psyche such as love hate, compassion etc. You are in control of the production of the objects of psychic so by avoid the objects of the world by becoming a recluse and meditate for the mystical experience of moksha.
