Windows XP Setup Music

- I figured that I would upload this since Windows XP has gone out of support as of April 8, 2014. This is for your nostalgic/listening purposes. :P If you would like to, share your thoughts and memories about Windows XP in the comments down below.
This was the setup music used when you install Windows XP for the first time.
Thanks for listening/watching. :)
Windows XP is actually the first OS I have ever used. I had so many memories on that old Dell Dimension...

same! Windows xp is cool!
This song will always mean a lot to me.
It was the early 2000's. I was about to turn 30...in a constant cloud of mild melancholy...working an IT job I always thought was a side gig until the real career started (whatever that could be).
I was sent to a unoccupied office space to setup 25 new machines for a startup...silent, save for the patter of rain against the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the empty parking lot and the white noise of the HVAC system.
Thoughts elsewhere, I mustered as much vigor as I could and plugged in the 1st machine. After a moment or three, the Dell monitor lit up with the then fairly new XP logo. As i went to unbox another, the soft chords of setup music began playing through the internal speaker (how I miss the emulated stereo sound of internal speakers).
I stopped what I was doing and let the song sort of wash over me...such a strange and unanticipated composition for a typically cold endeavor such as a computer operating system. I struggled to make sense of what I was hearing…longing? A little sadness? Was this what a sigh sounds like to a computer?
As the song ended, I began furiously unboxing and plugging in the remaining systems. Before long, I had 25 machines setup...spaced apart along each of the 4 walls...timed to play the song (nearly) simultaneously.
This created a sort of makeshift orchestra of no one that filled the room with the drifting chords and wistful notes of the XP setup song.
The music was almost inexplicable in it's application...how did this song get chosen? There must have been hundreds of people at Microsoft that his particular choice filtered through...countless options and alternate tracks...but this was the one they went with. This echoey, dreamlike tune...hardly fueled by “congratulations on your recent purchase”… awash in what, to me, could only be evocative of a contemplative stage in one's life. An introspective crossroads…where the nostalgic gaze to the past is equally as powerful as the worried uncertainty of the future.
Suddenly, in the mists of an otherwise rigidly scheduled workday, I was I was here in the present...in the now. I was reminded of how much I really enjoyed what I do...how there will always be time to find newness in planned or unplanned moments. How I should remind myself that there is beauty in the unexpected, and that I should look forward to the uncovering of those occasions.
There, alone in a room that was going to be something else very soon, I felt connected to something both old and new...something sharable, as it was shared with me. I was...grateful.
I found a certain peace that I could keep.
This song will always mean a lot to me.
This song means a lot to me as well, but in a different way
I was born in 2001, so by the time I grew into using computers was during Windows XP's golden years. Any kind of experience I had with computers and computer related things, such as games, hardware, troubleshooting, all started with windows XP. It almost felt like a home to me. A home where I can slowly but surely grow my computer skills and learn the ins and outs of certain things.
Despite that, I had never found out about this song until well after I had upgraded to Windows 8, with Windows 10 on the horizon. It could be because I didn't mess with the system files; The last thing I wanted to do is mess up the computer and make my dad reinstall everything all over again. At that point I was about to start high school, feeling that stress from how big of a jump it is compared to middle school, not to mention the melancholic feeling I've developed (and still have to this day to an extent, haha).
I was scrolling through RUclips suggestions when I found a video titled "Windows XP: Hidden Song" and didn't think much of it at first; How could a song play during an Operating System setup? Regardless, I clicked the video to have a listen, and that soft tune took me back to my early years, filled with wonder and not having a worry in the world playing and learning with the computer. The song reminded me that there is still a lot to learn in this world, that the world is not all doom and gloom, and you *can* make the most of what life throws at you to make your experience at least a little more bearable. This song helped me get started in high school and getting ready for the challenges up ahead like computer science and algebra. Nowadays I still occasionally come back to the song to reminisce that feeling I had so long ago, now in my Junior year of college working on my bachelor's in computer science.
I did not mean to write a memoir over a song for Windows but I guess I had more to say as I kept going lol
Thanks for sharing your good memories 😊, I enjoyed reading it .
Man.. I almost cried when I hear this song..
It reminded me of a lot of things like..
-Windows Movie Maker.
-The Little Buzzers (A flash cartoon series)
-Internet Explorer

-Microsoft Office 2003

Windows XP is an operating system produced by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It was released to manufacturing on August 24, 2001, and broadly released for retail sale on October 25, 2001.
Development of Windows XP began in the late 1990s as "Neptune", an operating system (OS) built on the Windows NT kernel which was intended specifically for mainstream consumer use. An updated version of Windows 2000 was also originally planned for the business market; however, in January 2000, both projects were scrapped in favor of a single OS codenamed "Whistler", which would serve as a single OS platform for both consumer and business markets. As such, Windows XP was the first consumer edition of Windows not to be based on MS-DOS.[5]
Extended support for Windows XP ended on April 8, 2014, after which the operating system ceased receiving further support or security updates (with exceptional security updates.
While retaining some similarities to previous versions, Windows XP's interface was overhauled with a new visual appearance, with an increased use of alpha compositing effects, drop shadows, and "visual styles", which completely changed the appearance of the operating system. The number of effects enabled are determined by the operating system based on the computer's processing power, and can be enabled or disabled on a case-by-case basis. XP also added ClearType, a new subpixel rendering system designed to improve the appearance of fonts on liquid-crystal displays.[19] A new set of system icons was also introduced.[20] The default wallpaper, Bliss, is a photo of a landscape in the Napa Valley outside Napa, California, with rolling green hills and a blue sky with stratocumulus and cirrus clouds.[21]
The Start menu received its first major overhaul in XP, switching to a two-column layout with the ability to list, pin, and display frequently used applications, recently opened documents, and the traditional cascading "All Programs" menu. The taskbar can now group windows opened by a single application into one taskbar button, with a popup menu listing the individual windows. The notification area also hides "inactive" icons by default. A "common tasks" list was added, and Windows Explorer's sidebar was updated to use a new task-based design with lists of common actions; the tasks displayed are contextually relevant to the type of content in a folder (e.g. a folder with music displays offers to play all the files in the folder, or burn them to a CD).[22]
However, the projects proved to be too ambitious. In January 2000, shortly prior to the official release of Windows 2000, technology writer Paul Thurrott reported that Microsoft had shelved both Neptune and Odyssey in favor of a new product codenamed "Whistler", after Whistler, British Columbia, as many Microsoft employees skied at the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort.[11]
At PDC on July 13, 2000, Microsoft announced that Whistler would be released during the second half of 2001, and also unveiled the first preview build, 2250. The build notably introduced an early version of Windows XP's visual styles system.[13]
On February 5, 2001, Microsoft announced that Whistler would be officially known as Windows XP, where XP stands for "eXPerience".[15]
Release
In June 2001, Microsoft indicated that it was planning to, in conjunction with Intel and other PC makers, spend at least 1 billion US dollars on marketing and promoting Windows XP.[16] The theme of the campaign, "Yes You Can", was designed to emphasize the platform's overall capabilities. Microsoft had originally planned to use the slogan "Prepare to Fly", but it was replaced due to sensitivity issues in the wake of the September 11 attacks.[17]
On August 24, 2001, Windows XP build 2600 was released to manufacturing (RTM). During a ceremonial media event at Microsoft Redmond Campus, copies of the RTM build were given to representatives of several major PC manufacturers in briefcases, who then flew off on decorated helicopters. While PC manufacturers would be able to release devices running XP beginning on September 24, 2001, XP was expected to reach general, retail availability on October 25, 2001. On the same day, Microsoft also announced the final retail pricing of XP's two main editions, "Home" and "Professional".[18]
Linux Mint has been around as long as Windows XP it has a similar experience thanks to Cinnamon and Xfce desktop environment I am debating on moving to Linux Mint Cinnamon since it's basically an everything works distro and has more option than Arch Linux. Nothing can replace the experience of Windows XP PLENTY of things to do on Windows 10 End of Life including playing old web app games that still exist I was debating on playing Tails Nightmare which is a 2000s classic Sonic fanbase game I played as a kid I can't believe I am already 31 the 2000s was a different world entirely.

Dell optilpexes with XP suck. What do you mean?
Allan pavon Probably in this day and age yeah, you probably weren't around for when the OS was mainstream and the memories many people had with Windows XP when it was mainstream.
Kevin Maguire I have nothing against Windows XP, I loved it. It's just the dell computers it was on sucked.

I also used to love the xp startup sound and every time i heard it, i used to laugh. Now, when i hear it, it brings back so many memories. Even when i hear this sound, i get flashbacks from installing xp on my home computer as me and my brother kept downloading things we didnt know of, installing viruses. That sound really does bring back memories. I absolutely loved using xp, its interface, the sounds and music, the way it felt sooooo compatiable with software in the early 2000's.
