The machine it was recorded on is probably not the same it was played back on, so there can be variation in both the speed and pitch of the recording. And then the recent efforts to remaster the audio probably changed the quality more. I doubt its a fabrication. This channel doesn't have a large enough audience to make such a forgery an effective means of propaganda. BTW - Hall has a book called The Way of Heaven - a theme he mentioned in this lecture. It is a book of short stories - with an Chinese backdrop. You should be able to find it from PRS if you're interested in comparing written vs lecture. So far I haven't heard any thematic contradictions.
