Their match at Wimbledon this year was more entertaining. Probably because there was no wind and Wimbledon at that point was still slightly faster than the US Open.

Always a weird match up between these two almost as if their strengths cancelled each other out and we are left with the stronger of the two weaknesses. Early in their careers it became Jankovic winning the match ups off the forehand which is crazy. Later on in their careers Wozniacki won their matches through mentality and conditioning. For me though fit and focussed JJ is a better player, particularly off the forehand when comparing to Wozniackis forehand. Bh to BH pretty even, two of the best BHs ever.

At least a match with no grunting :)))

The thing that I always abhorred about Jankovic back then was this insistence on dragging opponents and herself down to the lowest level possible and then relying on her defense and stamina to edge it out. A lot of the interminably long matches she had at the USO that year were symptomatic of just that.
Fast forward to 2009 and she was losing the majority of those kind of matches. Couldn't half ass it like she could before.

Two whiny counterpunchers (pushers) on a windy day definitely isn't my idea of fun but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the rallies here.
JJ was always a bit hit or miss against these sort of players, she should be bullying them around the court in theory, but didn't have the natural instinct nor the shot making to do so. Wozniacki was still fresh to the tour in 2008, but she already began beating those below her and giving those above her a bit of a taste for things to come.
The Era of big babe tennis had officially died somewhere around that summer and wouldn't be reincarnated until Kvitova,Li, Azarenka, Masha, and Serena established who's who a couple of years later with a few pushers as the supporting cast.

😂lol. I kind of agree 😂. JJ did actually have some pretty awesome shot making in her career around 2003-2006, then she kind of became the worlds best defender and more clearly stubborn as u pointed out. She is far superior imo to the types of players like Errani, Wozniacki, Kerber, Radwanska as she has much more power but just refused to use it and ended up struggling immensly against them through impatience and sometimes ignorance. Instead she used it against Kvitova, Serena, Li, Azarenka which makes no sense. I use Radwanska lightly as she was a fantastic tactician who tangled everyone in knots.

always found it funny that Woz was stopped by the top 2 Serbian ladies at slams in 2008, all in the 4R. lost in straight sets to Ana at the AO and FO; and took JJ to 3 at Wimbledon and USO.

2008 Wimbledon they met in the third round. Janković played Tamarine Tanasugarn in the 4th round and lost in straight sets.
