- A kitchen chat while I'm making a lasagne and how I use a basic set of spices to make Mexican, Indian and Chinese inspired dishes. Fajita spice mix recipe is now on the blog aliliveswellon...
Good morning Ally. Greetings from Costa Rica. I just found your channel and started watching your old videos. It is so interesting to learn more about living frugally. Keep up the good job. All the best. I am also retired and 75 years young. 😊
It looks delicious. I sometimes do a veg lasagne with all the leftovers at the end of the week
Love a veg leftovers lasagne!!
Good morning Ali,
The very first Domestic Science lesson in the Secondary Modern school was ,How to make White sauce 😊
I came up with an idea, not to do with food, but I thought I would like to tell you. Maybe you can pass it on?
Setting the central heating to go on, say: 8.30am to 9.30am. Well instead I set it for : 8.31 to 9.29. Saving, 2 minutes. If done twice a day Saving 4 minutes. Then one month 120 minutes. And I don't notice the difference daily, but the savings are really good. What do you think of this ? As a way of savings on the heating.
With love Sandra. Rhyl North Wales. ❤
I think every wee bit we can save all adds up so brilliant idea! :-)

Thank you Ali 😊
Yummy I have the same lasagne dish. I agree I make my own spice mixes great video.
I’m a bit of a spice and herb nut! I think I have well over 30 different jars and I’ve used them all in a year. Some are very seasonal, I make spiced apple juice which I serve hot in autumn/winter when I invite people round, it is a super frugal way of entertaining. I have the Madhur Jaffrey recipe book and she always seems to need at least 10 spices per curry and I use a lot of tarragon and dill with fish or chicken.
I’ve recently discovered buying frozen herbs which I love, saves wasting fresh herbs although I do freeze parsley from the garden.
Another great video. I haven't made lasagne for a while and that's just put me in the mood for it as yours looks delicious! 😍I've never made my own spice mix so thanks for the inspiration, great idea xx
Your blog page is a great idea. Thank you for your spice mix receipe.
Thank you for another great video,
Have a nice weekend x
Loved the tour of your spices - i have far too many and need to cut down! I make lasagne in the same way but the meat sauce has a first ittiration as a spag bol! I find my local pay by weight shop's spices and herbs are fresher btw. Thank you for another inspirational video.
Oh Ali, now I am going to have to make a lasagne for dinner tonight! Yours looks scrumptious (though mine will be meatless). I have a garlic baguette knocking round in the freezer that will be great as a side dish, plus some salad on the side. Very much craving comfort food as the weather gets colder. I also need a spice check, though I have simplified down my spices a lot in recent years.
The lasagne looks delicious.
Happy Friday Ali! Making my own chili, taco, and beef stew mixes has proven to be a huge cost savings and so much fresher than expensive store packets. Lasagna looked delicious. Have a blessed week.
Thank you Ali it looks delicious ❤
looks good - never made lasagne that way
I am Scottish and I approve this message.
Just saw the photos on the blog. Lasagna looks wonderful.
Hi Ali, the lasagna looked lovely and with the rest of the mince you could have made a shepherds pie.❤️❤️
I do that as well
Thanks for that 'food for thought' video. Take away insirations today: 1) Get around to clearing out my boxes of stale out-of-date-and possibly-mouse-tainted spices (it's the 'mouse tainted' bit that has stopped me using them- but they still sit there at the back of my pantry, because it's expensive wasteage, even though I am obviously not going to use them) 2) Add red lentils to shopping list for next week to make mince go further.
I don't use lentils or beans to stretch my food
@@debbieframpton3857 Ha ha, lentils and beans ARE my food! 🤣
The end result looks lovely, lol. Enjoy. X
Great video, love lasagne you've inspired as not made it fr while 🌹🌹🌹
Wow, looks great. Fair few meals in that ❤
I've gone to community page but can't see it. Love lasagne.
It’s not on there. Click the link in the description to Ali’s blog and it’s there, along with her spice pics and recipe.
Lovely! ❤
Thank you Ali it looked good when you were making it but it never showed a picture at the end but i'm sure it tasted great have a good week-end .x
There's a photo of it on the blog :-)
I like to add a sprinkle of nutmeg to my white sauce. I also pour a little water around the edges of the dish to stop the lasagne sheets from drying out.
Great tips! :-)
I’ve never added the white sauce and the red. It’s red with meat and white with vegetables. It looked delicious! ❤ I use any leftover meat sauce for stuffed peppers.
Yep I could add some fajita spice and black beans to the mixture and stuff some peppers. Yum!
Interesting! Here in the U.S. our lasagna noodles are longer and ruffled on the sides.
The 'posh' branded ones are like that :-)
@@aliliveswellonless Oh, I just thought they made them like that there. I don't think we have totally flat ones here, at least I haven't seen any, even in discount groceries.
Super video, Ali. Thank you as ever. I don’t have an oven now but wondered, have you ever made lasagne in your slow cooker? I hear that one can but haven’t yet tried. I’d love to be a good cook like you! I have the same sort of herbs and spices mix and recently switched to garlic granules as fresh garlic, I found I wasn’t using often enough and I hate waste. But when I moved house, no idea what happened or if the granules got a little damp but my cupboard now smells overpoweringly of garlic! I’ve even tried to put the jar in a plastic bag but still the smell is pungent. 😂
Not tried it in the slow cooker. I tend to just do stew type dishes or chicken in it
Ali, do you ever buy Lidl’s £1.50 veggie/fruit box. You get about 7lb of mixed fruit and veg all in good condition.
I had so much this week I shared it with my daughter in law.
Yep I did a video on this :-)
oh are the potatoes 😂having a good conversation with the Lasagna 😂sorry Ali ❤could not resist the silly Joke ❤❤😂😂
👍👍👍
I always wanted to make lasagne
It looks lovely before being cooked and I am sure it does after lol couldn’t see the photo ❤
Photo of it is on the blog :-)
@@aliliveswellonless thankyou I saw it there lol looks like mine would do x
I think when your cooking remember you are cooking for you rather than to produce the authentic meal, after all for most foods there isnt one authentic recipe, the recipe often varies regionally or even from household to household. i do follow recipes but not religiously, I often will leave out an ingredient I dont much like substituting it for something I prefer. yeah it might make some moan but i'm going to eat it so i'm going to make it the way I like it best.
Yep I make it the way I like it :-)
Could you please give me the white sauce recipe. Thank you ❤
This explains it better than I could plus there's a wee video too www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/whitesauce_1298
😋💫
Hey, great video, I’m trying to see how I can follow you over on your blog, I already have a blogger account but can’t see anyway to follow 🤷🏼♀️ any tips would be great
I've added the follow widget to it now 🙂
@@aliliveswellonless fab, thank you 😍 I prefer to follow blogs so this is perfect
I always find the pasta sheets are hard in places when i make lasagne.
I don't like Cinnamon either - very overpowering!
