  • The video provides an overview of the process I used to make my very own Fairy House, or Woodland Cottage as I am calling it. Many step-by-steps are featured to help other crafters complete a similar project for themselves. If you have more interest in doing this project, we are making kits available on Etsy: BarkandMoss and will feature an additional video that shows everything included in the kit.

    This is a neat project! I started painting fantasy game figures to tabletop games years ago. I like the terrain you can make for your table. Around 2021. I found a RUclipsr who started her youtube by cosplay. She made some crafting videos she douse her channel to show fairytale or fantasy magic by being a mermaid, fairy, dark elf, vampire. The fairy building, and the painting, got me interested into cosplay. And seeing the RUclips got me looking into making a fairy house of an enchanted forest.

    This is just awesome! I work on a nature/outdoor focussed primary school in The Netherlands and this is a awesome long term project for me and the kids. Very cool :D What type of glue do you use?

      Thank you very much!! I can tell you that kids do enjoy it, although under 10 years old will need some adult assistance. I use hot glue for most of it, but plain old Elmer's glue for the stone walkway.

    How do I find your fairy house tutorials? Are they recorded and available for purchase or do you offer live zoom classes? Love what you are doing! I live on 123 acres in Maine and want to begin creating for my grandchildren and home from all the treasures found.

      Hello Laurinda and thank you for the wonderful comment! I will check to see if I still have the tutorials saved on my Dropbox account. If so, I can send you a Link to download them. I originally created the tutorial videos when I was selling the Fairy House craft kits on Etsy. Unfortunately, I could not sell them at a profitable price, given the amount of time it took to gather and package all the components for the Kits. After I sold out of them, I discontinued the kits. However, I am still very passionate about making these houses and would be very happy to help you in any way I can...to include doing a few Zoom calls to get you started. I will first look for all my files and then get back to you...please give me until tomorrow. Jay

      @@tendtonotice Hello Jay, thank you for your response and willingness to look for the tutorials. I recently moved to a remote location and due to the snow have not yet added booster to our internet. Zoom with video is not a great option. All audio internet options work. My finding you is so auspicious. I was out for a stroll the day I contacted you and found some bark treasures from a fallen birch…I also found some pinecones in different sizes. Before the snow I could see we have lots of moss on the land. Anyhow, as I came into the house I said a little prayer to be guided on how to use these beautiful treasures to honor their beauty. Soon after I began to Google and found you!
      I have two grandchildren and another on the way, I am inspired to learn this project to enjoy sharing the fairy houses with them. I can understand why you discontinued selling the kits, you out so much care and precision into the preparation of the bark which requires lots of time. I was envisioning even the time to package them so the arrive safely…I can imagine the kits quadrupled that effort. I appreciate you wanting to reach out via zoom. Thank you! Look forward to hearing back. Warmly, Laurinda

    How do you dry moss?? What would happen if you just used moss without drying it?

    • @barkandmoss5879
      @barkandmoss5879  4 года назад

      Hi Katherine, thank you for the question. I must admit I recently discovered how to preserve moss myself and there are some good articles you can find in a google search. Basically, you combine 2 parts hot water and 1 part Glycerin. I do it right on the stove and heat up (not boiling). Submerge the moss you wish to preserve for 1 hour. You will need to put something on top to weigh the moss down (i.e. stone or brick, etc.). After an hour, remove moss and squeeze liquid from moss without wringing it out, so as not to tear it. It will take several days to fully dry and will feel soft and alive when dry. It will last for years this way! You can still use unpreserved moss, but it will dry put and become brittle after a while. I have a tiny amount of that in my roof and it is hard, brittle and easily breakable. Best advice would be to preserve it. Hope that helps!

      One more thing...you can order Glycerin by the gallon on Amazon. I ordered 2 gallons and received a discount. I will be able to preserve a lot of moss with that...probably over 100lbs of moss!
