3:41 Chris, thank you so much for your videos! They always make me feel like I'm catching up with a dear friend over tea and sharing experiences. Desert Storm... I remember vividly living at Fort Ben and answering the phone when my dad got his orders. I think you've also mentioned Fort Sill in a previous video and it takes me back to dear memories. Thank you! ❤️ I was one the fence about these cards, but now I have to get them!
Hi @thedarkhorse9218 - thank you for the kind comment - I really enjoy talking about hobby related things and it makes me happy to connect with pen friends from all over!!! I was stationed in Oklahoma at Vance AFB during Desert Storm. It's so funny because I remember my very first impression of the base as I first arrived and thinking ... I should have been in a military family ... I liked so much how the base was set up. My Dad was in the Army National Guard so I didn't have the experience of living on base until I was on active duty in the Air Force. :) I hope you enjoy the cards they are really nice quality!
Hi Aubrey - I hope you'll like the set up as much as I like it!!! Like I said, I really do enjoy clear things and this one really appealed to me! Plus the cards are so cute!
I like the look of the cat and ink bottle cards. A few weeks ago I started making Christmas gift tags (yes I know that I'm starting early, but it will take me a while to do them all 😂) and I draw a design on a blank gift tag using ruling pens and masking fluid. Once the masking fluid has dried, I paint the card with ink (in a bid to use up some my stash of the ink 😂) and once dry remove the masking fluid. It's a similar idea to the cat cards that you have.
I have the Wearinggeul sheet, and I love the quality. They inspired me to start swatching my ink, which is a long-delayed task. I do love those kitty cards :)
Hi @jacobus57 they really have quite a few ink swatch options I was not aware of ... I really like one of theirs that looks like a bookmark where you can swatch 4 inks ... I was amazed at the things they make now. But the kitty is so cute it made me wish I had ordered all kitty cards lol.
Hi Chris, The kitty cards are so fun. I really like the ink bottle cards also. But I also like your swatch cards in the box. I guess I just like everything!!
Hi Sharson -- lol -- that's my issue: I love everything and enjoy trying all the things. LOL The kitty cards are so cute I wish they came in 100 packs. :) I will still make the swatch cards 3x3 tiles because I still really like seeing those!!!!
Hi Chris! IF you get fed up with this little business card binder, you MIGHT want to try out just baseball card collector sleeves. I got a whole batch of them that fit about 9 cards per sheet. They have 3 holes on one side of the sheet so you can bind them in a three ring binder! I have stored lots of unmounted rubber stamps in them for years! You can see both sides of the cards and the cards easily pull out of their little slots. Just not sure if the size will accommodate swatch cards. The dimensions are different, but might be doable. Enjoy and thanks for this video! ❤️🙋♀️🖋😀
Since I am still starting out, I've been keeping my ink swatches in an old Clairefontaine notebook, but this video has convinced me to try swatch cards. 😄
Hi @whit_journals it is really fun to keep swatch cards ... I keep the Col-O-Ring cards for full bottles and I also make 3x3 inch tiles on water color paper but this new system caught my eye and I couldn't resist. :)
I have spent the last 4 or so months changing over to the Wearingeul 'Cat' swatch cards and have mine stored in a Travelers Company Spiral Ring Notebook Card File. It only holds 72 cards so I have 3 of them with room to add more swatch cards in the future. The folders I use are quite sturdy, I am enjoying the setup. When I purchased my swatch cards here in Australia, they didn't have he clear folder. Enjoy and have some inky fun Chris :)
Hi @jppenandink I was thinking how there must be so many options for the card file ... I know somewhere in this house I have a nice business card holder that is the same size as a traveler's notebook original size too. If the cover on this plastic one doesn't settle down ... I'll move into a traditional business card holder file. I'm not familiar with the Traveler's Company Spiral Ring Notebook Card File but it sounds interesting I'll check it out!
@@ChrisSaenz13 yes a business card file would work well too. I am enjoying using my cards for comparisons and choosing my inks each month. I have started another book as well where I have dedicated a page per pen to write down what ink I have put in it and how I enjoyed it or not enjoyed it. This is in addition to my currently inked each month. The options for inky thoughts are endless 😂 Have a lovely day/evening Chris 😊
The kitty cards are sure up your alley. I bet you could make your own when you run out of your purchased ones. A cat rubber stamp, clear ink and embossing powder would probably give you cards that worked the same. Thanks for sharing.
I am glad you also got some of the cat swatch cards, you being such a cat person🐱😻Do you know, if you can put two cards back to front per slot? It could double the capacity, unless🤔 Wearingeul has already factored this in? You "need to give us a progress report on how you like it🥰
Hi Tanja! Yes each slot hold 2 cards back to back and the 240 is with it already factored in that you'd put them double! I think that is a great number to fit into one small binder!!!! I will be able to do all my bottled in one including the small bottles and all of my shot box color families keeper samples in another one! Over time lol as that's a big project!!!
Chris-can you leave the book open over night with a heavy book on it to maybe help it to be more pliable? Just trying to think of ideas for you- maybe use a hair dryer sparingly along the seam first? Good luck and let us know😊
Hi Barbara - I will be working at breaking it in ... hopefully it will just loosen up with a lot of use ... it's good they put the snap because usually the issue is getting a book to close ... but this one is so new I'll let you know how it goes!!!
Hi Melinda - they are really nice! The one thing I'm considering is whether the plastic will settle down eventually to lay flat. If not, then a traditional business card folio/holder from a thrift store or office products place might be a better option for the book. Those things typically show up in second hand stores very inexpensive. :)
What do you think about using cheap small binders like old Filofax mini’s and using the best paper you can afford for swatches? You can arrange that how you want. I’m setting this up now and it works.
Hi @Oldnose63 great idea! Yes, I think that cutting paper down to fit the business size is a great idea.... I'd like to see all my inks on 68 gsm Tomoe River paper after this!!! The binders being $6 too kind of sold me on them!
Very simple question - what paintbrush do you use for your swatching? I bought a few to try but they didn't really absorb the ink or do a great job swatching. The cat image is so cool on these!
Hi @caklich oh the blue one I was using is all worn off the name brand of the brush ... I got it at Hobby Lobby I think ... I typically watch for their sales. The other brand I used for years and years and love is Royal and Langnickel the clear ones made for acrylic or watercolor painting ... the sizes are all worn off I want to say size 4 but I can't remember for sure.
Hi Brenda! I was thinking that I would have to leave a few spots for purples or magentas ... which is always hit or miss and could see me having to take them all out and move them around .... so I can see that would be a big pain! :)
yay for writing the ink name with the actual ink!

This is a FANTASTIC way to look at your inks! Thanks for showing us...now I'm gonna go down the rabbit hole... 🤪

Hi Annie! Oh that sounds like a fun project .... and starting early is wise .... any craft takes lots of time and you won't have to be rushed!!! :)

I love your card box! Reminds me of the good ole dewey decimal system 😍 the binder is cool too.
I remember those days in the library!!!! :)

Hi @karma13612 great idea!!!!
This is how my fiancé stores his old Pokemon cards, and this would be perfect for business cards and ink swatches!
The cat ones are too cute! 😻
that was neat. I hope you show us filling up all those cat and ink cards :)
Hi @rds4629 I will ... once I've swatched my inks I'll do a flip thru. I'm looking forward to being able to put like color families together!
@@ChrisSaenz13 sounds good. It's a childish thing but I like the cat appearing. It's like those games w/ invisible ink.

My biggest regret of moving my swatches into a book like this is that they’re a pain to add new inks to. I love seeing 20 swatches at a time though.

The cats are worth the price. Edit: I bet you can make your own using a stencil and a white crayon. The ink won’t stick to the wax.
That's a cool idea about the wax I'll have to try it!
