The princess coronation 46251 City of Nottingham, was one of the remaining locos in the mid 60's. The council in Nottingham had the chance to save this loco from the cutter's torch, but chose to save the £6000 needed and it was cut up.
Thats right, a tarted-up shopping centre overhead with entrance lobby, and still the same amount of congested tracks at rail level, at a cost of xxx millions !
Cheers Monica and Paul. I enjoyed my time on the footplate during the early 60s. With these videos I have tried to recreate those happy times and fond memories for everyone else to watch, there are others from the same era somewhere on my channel that you may enjoy watching. Best Regards...Bill
Bloody hell Bill this is a gem but what about Smiley says copyrighting, some great stuff here New street a proper station, then stechford were my mom took me in 1953 to see the queen which I still remember age 3 and a bit. Then we have Marston Green my local station which is nearer to Lea Hall on the film. Amazing Bill.
At 1:43 that narrator claims the loco is a Rebuilt Patriot but I thought all 18 members of the class rebuilds received full Stanier cab upgrades. It appears to me that the engine is actually a Rebuilt Royal Scot. I could be wrong though.
Unfortunately I can't be sure if the loco mentioned was a rebuilt Patriot or Scot. Sorry about that, thanks for taking the time to view and comment. Regards...Bill
Cheers Nelson, thanks for looking/commenting. I still go to Stafford every now and again, still an interesting place for variety of loco's etc. Regards...Bill
such memories takes me back to my trainspotting days aged 12 in 1960. Not much interested in modern trains. Could this film be digitally remastered to sharpen it up and make it clearer?
Thanks for looking/commenting, I hope this bought back some fond memories for you from all those years ago. I would imagine given the right software videos such as this which were filmed with cine cameras at the time could well be enhanced to improve the quality. Regards...Bill
The scenes in this video are from a series of VHS video tapes I bought in the early 90s called The Changing Face Of British Railways. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for looking/commenting. Regards...Bill
Lovely. Absolutely invaluable for modelling purposes. Nice to see New Street station back in the days when my grandad was a Postal Inspector there.

That’s your opinion m8 not his nor mine cus I also loved the good old days to me those were the best or at least better than today’s British railways
such memories takes me back to my trainspotting days aged 12 in 1960. Not much interested in modern trains. Could this film be digitally remastered to sharpen it up and make it clearer?

The narrator really reminds me of Ringo Star, so it's like Island of Sodor IRL
I know so so calm
I worked there as a platform wallah\shunter
Happy days Nelson, I bet. Regards...Bill

Shameful, not a single western engine. Why no shots of a King or a Castle at Snow Hill!!
