- In the step-by-step guide I’ll show you how to diagnose and repair your dryer. The parts needed for a non-starting dryer are usually very cheap sometimes only $5
Whether you have a Whirlpool, Kenmore, Estate, Roper, Amana and some Maytag as long as the filter comes out the top these are all built nearly the same and they all have the same causes for not starting. If your dryer is starting but not spinning I have another video for that.

Just go through this easy guide of all for problems whether it’s problem 1 2 3 or 4 you should still go through and clean out the lint from the entire machine because several times the reason for a dryer not starting is lint buildup and that is a very dangerous problem as far as fire go. I have a video on how to clean this machine from top to bottom easily.
Wow ! I can't thank you enough for your fantastic tutorial. My issue was the door switch, broken just as you described. I was easily able to follow your instructions and replace it using the link you supplied to Amazon for the switch part which was here in a matter of hours for a total cost of $7.33 ! You literally saved me hundreds of dollars and I got a lot of satisfaction doing it myself. Thanks again...
Glad to help
How can I say when I m going to buy it, may be ,my has the same problem that yours
How can I change this interupter? I have to replace it for an other?
As an old jack of all trades, i"ve done my share of appliances. This guy's videos are great! He thoroughly explains. problems & solutions, including fantastic video of "how to" play by play.
Thanks I appreciate it.
@@WasherDryerMoneyJill of most trades here 🙋 I so appreciate you because you helped me fix my dryer and it was a simple fix 🥰🥰🥰 I was like duh when you showed the lid switch 🥰
Thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge.
Hmmm. Yesterday I googled what to check when your dryer won’t start, and now, here you are! Anyway, I think my problem is the timer switch. It won’t turn at all. I had to order a new knob (again) and it worked for a couple of loads and then…..I will try your fixes if I’m able. Thanks!
This video help me repair my drier and I like the light humor added in. Educational and entertaining. Thanks.
Thanks.
Great video very well explained 👍
Thank you for your video. I was able to fix my dryer by simply changing the thermal fuse.
Glad you got it fixed. Be sure to check to see if there’s dryer lint built up somewhere. A lot of times thermal fuses will trip because of lack of airflow because of dryer lint buildup either in the dryer or the vent pipe leading outside.
@@WasherDryerMoney sure, thank you!
JUST A NOTICE!!! My dryer would not start. I checked everything, EVERYTHING, before taking it apart to test the motor. When I had performed the continuity test on the white & blue wire connect and then the white & black wire connect into the motor switch, everything was good. SO!! I did a VOLTAGE TEST where I put a jump wire for the door switch to mimic the door being closed. I put my multimeter on ACV 250. I plugged the dryer in. Set the timer to heat dry and pushed the start switch. BOO-YAH!!! It worked. So then I removed the multimeter probes from the connection and tried the start switch again. It is still working.
APPARENTLY when I had pushed those probes into the wire harness, I snugged up a loose wire. EVERYONE told me that it was VERY rare that a motor would go bad on a Whirlpool dryer, especially a 3 year old dryer.
I was about to load this dryer up and take it to a parts shop to put a new motor in. WHEW!!! Saved a few hundred dollars by checking everything.
Thanks!
Glad to help
I have a dryer that a wont start.
I changed the timer the door switch works fine.
The previous technician jumped the thermal fuse and combined the wires. no wires are connected to the thermal fuse currently.
any suggestions?
Great video thanks
Glad to help
Great job
Glad to help
This video really helped me to switch out the fuse on my dryer! Thank you so much! Because you stated the more likely culprit is the fuse, we went with that and bought the digital multimeter and thermal fuse. It was the fuse and it saved us hundreds of dollars in repair fees to have someone come to our home.
Glad to help
Thank you but the old hotpoijt dryer that I’m working on does not have the white fuse like the new ones . It won’t start . It’s not the motor or the door switch . I’m getting continuity on the little thermostats . There’s about 5 of them
Hot point dryer is our made by GE I believe so you may look for a troubleshooting video for a GE dryer. Some of those type dryers had belt sensors. Meeting with the belt broke the dryer would not turn back on. So double check the belts not broken.
Nice!!
Thanks.
What about when plugging in the dryer trips the GFCI every time? I know the outlet itself is fine.
Thanks so much🎉
Glad to help
Great video where is the link for the starter?
What if my dryer still won’t start!?
I’ve got 120 where I should but only a volt or two where I should have 240????
on my whirlpool model, similar to the one you tested. i’m getting continuity with the start switch, as the ohm reading beeps on the multimeter. however it beeps regardless if it’s set to on OR off. is that okay? or is the start switch faulty?
Where do you recommend buying parts from?? I’m flipping them so I want to save money
How you use the tester? (V), (Ω), or ▶📶 ???
Well go figure mine is the push start button, I only know this bc my dryer will start if I punch the button😅🥴. So in your expert opinion, should I buy the switch?!?!
My dryer will start, but I have to push the start button up to 20 times. I usually try it by pushing on the edges or a quick straight push. Once in awhile it will turn on on the first push, but rarely. Should I replace the start button?
What ended up being the problem ?

I love the internet.😮 It brings me to people like you that has how to videos. I'm female and 62. I can do anything when I see someone like you make a video and explain how and what tools and items to fix things. You explain so clearly and it is so easy to follow your instructions on these videos. Thankyou for being there for me. My dryer is fixed and now life makes sense again and I feel great that I did it myself. That's a great feeling. Thankyou so very much. 😊
This video not only saves us all a ton of $, it empowers us single ladies, is very easy to follow, & also very entertaining! Thank you so much!
Thanks.
I’m glad to help.
Damn I have this exact video coming lol But not as good as this. I am cancelling mine haha great video
Don't let me discourage you. I'm making every repair video for all common washers and dryers. We'll probably have some overlap LOL
Great job sir. Had a Maytag today making the humming sound. Held down door switch & spun the 🥁 drum. Kicked right on. I will let you tell your viewers what that means. 👍
Bad motor. I just made a video about that lol
Thank you. My lid switch was broken. I ordered one from Ebay and installed it and it works like a charm. Great Video.!!
Glad to help
Thank yoouuuu my dryer isn’t starting and this switch thing is just dangling .
Thanks for your help I was able to identify the problem with my dryer and repair it
Have to hold start button to keep it started
Thanks so much. We are seniors on a budget. We just changed the switch on the door. It cost us $33 from the local parts store. The hardest part was putting on the 2 screws.
Glad to help.
Yeah, those part stores are convenient but expensive. but at least you get the parts the same day. Amazon so much cheaper.
What about testing the timer?
Great video. I'm working on my dryer right now. What was the name of the tool you used to disconnect the door switch?
Mine is connected pretty tight and I'm having challenges disconnecting it.
Yeah, I’ve used a thin flathead or a sharp pic. Just be careful. Just listen one side and then loosen the other and it usually comes apart.

@@WasherDryerMoney Duct Tape forever!
Great video. Our dryer won't start but I can hear it ticking. I replaced the fuse, no luck. I tested the start switch, it's fine. What's the next thing to check?
Changed thermal fuse, worked for a short time then broke again. What could cause this ?
Lack of airflow. Usually caused by dryer lint buildup. Sometimes it’s caused by the vent pipe being dent shut. For the outside being stuck shut.
The common place for lint to build up is in the exhaust vent pipe, and in the dryer itself near the fan. Usually in the fan housing. It’s best to take the dryer apart and clean it all out because when dryer lint starts building up it builds up on everything.
@@WasherDryerMoney thank you so much
@@lynnpaul6591 no problem
Very informative really good video
Thanks
Here's a guy who love what he does..nice video ..I learned !
Excellent demonstration
Thanks
First tip worked, thanks so much!!
Whirlpool Cabrio 16 years old. Tried the thermal switch. Still nothing when I hit start. No motor, just clicked when I hit start.
Saw somewhere (RUclips thanks) about a switch at the motor that shuts everything down when the belt breaks. Sure enough, the belt developed two ends! Because....the tensioner pulley locked up and the motor ate through the belt! The tensioner switch worked perfectly.
Glad you figured it out. Yeah there’s only a few dryers that use that extra belt switch.
Best one yet! Thank you!
I'm just thinking about getting into this hussle. Pearland tx. What's a 10yo maytag dryer broken good price to get?
$20 to $30
Also my old dryer has a ceramic 3.77K resistor that has no continuity. Could that be the reason it won’t fire up
It’s been a while since I’ve looked at a hot point. I can’t remember what that ceramic resistor. Check out videos for GE dryer troubleshooting Hot point and GE I believe are the same.
Thank you!!!
Thanks❤
I cant seem to figure mine out. I thought the light went out inside the dryer, but later realized I have no power to anything on the dryer. It no longer clicks like a quiet clock when I turn the timer, it wont start and the light inside is out. The outlet has 250v. All the sensors seem to check out so far. Is there a main fuse to everything maybe??
Check that the plug is good first. Also make sure there are no burn wires where the plug hooks in to the dryer.
I’ve seen many plans to go bad my boss and see mini terminal block work not be tight on the plug wire and get hot and burn up. Sometimes it will be the wrong size screw in the terminal block.
@@WasherDryerMoney I think I was wrong. I had to look up how to test the door switch and it's looking like it may be the problem. I didnt know it was tied into the light inside too. Thanks for helping
Liked and subscribed! I'll be binge watching the rest of your videos. Thanks, Carl
Thanks.
If you’re interested in flipping Appliances be sure to check out the Facebook group. Appliance Flippers United.
How much for a broken washer or dryer to flip is reasonable?
$20-$30 if you’re buying one or two at a time. If your buying trailer loads from a wholesaler you will pay more for the convenience of getting a bunch at one time and not having to drive all over the place. Usually in the $50 to $100 range depending on what they are.
Great video!! Helped me find the blown fuse!
Glad to help
What about a bad motor or broken belt switch?
This type of dryer does not have a belt switch. But there’s a lot of dryers that do. Motors going bad does happen, but it’s extremely rare.
Thankyou! Your video worked! 🎉
Glad to help
DANG GOOD VIDEO 👍
