my dad and i just bought a gu patrol ute as a project car for us to work on and this would be an amazing place for us to start at! I’m only 13 so it would be a good start for me learning how to make it fit! And you never know i can maybe try to make it look like your old gu you used in 4x4 action🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️. thanks for the opportunity
I would like to nominate my mate Billy. He's been through hell over the last year dealing with some Spanish Dancer (Cancer) and has just bought himself a 79. To me it would be the best recovery present ever! Great videos on the rebuild. Keep them coming
Hey mate! I’ve been building a camper trailer. This topped off with the tent would be all I need to finish the trailer off. I need to get the trailer finished so I can get the wife and two kids out into the bush so they can experience all this great country has too see. All the best everyone!!
100% I can convert that canopy into a treehouse for my daughter. Some led lights, a few toys and she'll have an absolute blast for years. Might even put a 12v fridge in there so she'll have cold drinks all the time
This would be great for my step son who has just got a agriculture diesel mechanic apprenticeship and loves his camping and is doing up a old lancrusier ute which this canopy would adapt to perfectly . Keep up the informative videos rocket 👍
I would set it up on piers on my family’s farm on our hill that gets the best sunset views. We would use it as an overnight sleeper, along with the rooftop tent ect. Great episode 💪🏽💪🏽
hey rocket . i would put it on to a trailer and be the perfect friday night get away with the camper on top and the canopy with draws and fridge , 12v set up , hook up and go and get out in the tracks and use as a base camp . love the vids mate , cheers
The joys of having a modern workshop and having to keep it clean and presentable. Back in my day we just covered the oil spills with powdered clay, and let the floor slowly grow in height over the decades, sort of the reverse of oiled clay gokart tracks.
I have a 6x4 trailer i have been building now for a few years I have been saving for ages to complete with a canopy top so I would put on top as is as my camping setup to take my family away up the bush were we love the tranquility. Great to see that your fixing the old girl and saving al the history
Rod, i hope it’s just a blown turbo and be happy it didn’t implode out on the trail. I’m glad to see you guys giving back to the followers of the channel. Bye giving away your canopy!! Myself, if I would winner build a off road trailer with about 1000mm sides and mount the canopy on top. Mounting my batteries, water tank with water heater all to the bed of the trailer with a full pullout kitchen. It’s not within reason to pay shipping from Australia to Ontario Canada. Keep up the great stuff you guys are doing and can’t wait to see you back out with the boys on the trail. It’s not the same without you, and given it the skinny pedal!!! 🍻
Awsome Rod yall are legends . It's great watching you rebuild the weapon of a 79 you have . Keep em coming can't wait till the next episode. Ed in west virginia. 🙏
I run a mowing business and this canopy would be Ideal for a equipment storage on my 7x4 trailer given that the canopy is lockable is a bonus. I am deserving of this.
I would make a pool table top fit it and put it up in my party/bbq area . . And use the canopy itself for extra storage underneath the pool table 🤙. Also, i really admire that fact that you are spending the effort on fixing the old girl up. Love your work rod and crew. Cant wait to see the big girl on the tracks again 💪
My dad and I are planning to go to the Cape next year, he just bought a 07 Hilux and really wants to get rid of the tub, this would really get us the storage space for our trip and get us closer to getting out and seeing this beautiful country.
Thanks for fun and games with your vids.... My man would love the canopy, he says he would throw it on the back of the Hi-Lux and we would go bush.... But I suggested that it would make the best tool storage area, they can be locked up safe and sound. So when we do go bush our tools will be safe and sound at home...We live in a flood zone and most years we get up to 6ft of water under the house... We would put hooks in its roof and set up a pully system so it could be raised up under the house so the tools wont get flooded and stay safe......
Mate! You read my mind, I have the perfect 6x4 trailer that I have been trying to fit out as a camping rig, I would ideally fit wind off detachable legs onto the canopy so I can leave all the camping gear stored safely inside while still being able to use my trusty old trailer 👍
G'day rocket rod and stu dog and the team at wholesale... I've been contemplating for the last 2-3 years to build a lift off canopy to use as a camper for my wife and I on our trailer... then came along our now 20 month old and now the wife is ready to pop in the next four weeks with our second... in this time is just hasn't been something I could make a reality with cost and time being the main factors...this would help complete the build before it even begins and would be greatly appreciated... I might even manage to put a few more dings and scratches in it😏.. if we are lucky enough... thanks heaps guys love the content
The canopy would be put to good use her in Norway. I would build it up for touring around on the back of a Defender 130 or a rebuilt 110. To both serve me on vacation, daily drives and service vehicle for my veteran lightweight and Disco 1, maybe all so to bring gear and spears to snowmobiles up her where I live. Functional both in summer and winter time down to minus 20- 25 Celsius . Would not touch the paint job or stickers just for reminding me how and why i got it. Thanks for the videos Rocket!
Howdy Rocket and Studog, I would give it to my best mate, he enjoys camping and 4wheeling, but he is a bit hard up on cash to spend on his ute and I think he would appreciate your canopy for his ute, over his $14 Big W tent on his tray.
Whoa! That indeed is a lot of oil from your turbo. Looking forward to hearing the verdict on the turbo status. Good luck to everyone competing for the canopy. All the best to you all.
I'd throw it on top of my shed and have the TV and beer fridge inside the canopy and have the roof top tent set up for when I get kicked out of the house 😄 pretty handy having a telescopic ladder as well , kids can't come and annoy you 😀
Great video again , love the oil mess and floor polisher My daughter loves her soft toys that you guys sent out from your last video keep up the great work
I would love the canopy. I just got myself a v8 cruiser and love getting out and exploring and camping but due to being an apprentice and the pay not being the best I just can’t afford to buy a canopy. The canopy would be a great upgrade due to my rooftop tent being on a home made rack just so I can use it and my fridge being out on the tray in the weather slowly getting wrecked. Plus it would be a great thing to have so all the camping gear I have can be locked away and not just in the back off the tray waiting for someone to come and help themselves. Great video rocket love seeing you just sending it and having fun.
I am planning a trip to the Cape in the new 4x4 and my last hurdle is a Canopy so I would set it up with 12volt, draws, etc the usual things but with cost and covid it help heaps and would surprise the wife and kids and say we can go and release the stress on the savings a bit. Plus it's a famous canopy I'd love the rocket Rods hand me down. Cheers
Hi Rocket, Thanks for the opportunity. If I took the canopy; I’d look to fit it to a second ute to lend to my brother in law and his two sons for annual trips from across the ditch in New Zealand. We havent seen my wifes family for nearly 2 yrs due to the Pandemic which has been hard and to make up for it we are planning some offroad missions together to live a little. The kids lost their mother to ovarian cancer in the middle of Covid last year - and not being able to go see them has taken its toll. So I’d build up my wifes ute for them to use when they come out to Australia for that purpose. Thanks
Hi Rocket. I may be late viewing this episode but for those major spills like that I've found the easiest way to both control and cleanup is to cover the puddle with the clay type Kitty Litter, Cover completely and just scrape up with a shovel when litter is totally covered in oil ,repeat until all oil is gone. ;for the last remaining smearing i apply more clean litter and just grind it to a powder for fine finish. I am working in a home based situation and realize this method way not meet your allowed industry regulations. love the contents and comment's Lindsay Bawden
Rocket, when using the knockometer to rework the washer on the Left Hand bottom shock mount, you where knocking the U bolts and axle forward on the spring pack. Not a large amount, but you might want to check the axle alignment now.
I've been stuck in the UK while my patrol rusts back in Melbourne for the last 6 months. Now I've found out my canopy sitting on the jacks has sunk on a leg and twisted and cracked open in the corners. Rodney I need your canopy, not to replace mine, but so I have a metal box to lock myself in, yell, curse and cry.
I'm glad it's you and not me. Now you have to clean every part of the intake. That intercooler will be a swimming pool of oil and would be doing bugger all to cool the air from the turbo. I would consider cleaning out the whole exhaust to, including the manifold. What a pain in the arse. Makes good content though. Good luck.
I would use the Canopy to store firewood and with the roof top tent, that makes ideal accommodation for the Mother In Law when she visits. That might encourage her to stay less :)
Wow Rod your 79 was running on a diesel oil mixture your lucky the engine didn’t run off the oil they will rev till they blow up I’ve seen the aftermath very expensive and your canopy I’m collecting 4X4 gear for a Nissan patrol Ute it would be awesome to have cheers
I would love to give it to my mad pommy mate who is planning a working trip around Aus with his Missus. He's a surfer & a chippy with no money, so I think this would keep him in the good books for a few minutes anyway.....:D
Hi Rod, you said exactly what I thought... a Camping trailer. I've been using dad's old 1990 cage trailer and camping at caravan parks, but I want to take the kids on more remote camps and i've been dreaming of an enclosed trailer, dust free ;-). Mum passsed recently and i'f there is anything left from her estate I was going to use that as a deposit for for one. I'm a single dad and if I won the canopy the money saved would go towards a new off road trailer base and fitting the canopy out. Geez I feel a bit embarrassed pulling the heart strings but it's the truth mate. ps: the oil from the intake hose looked like a scene from a splatter movie... I laughed.
I would use it for overlanding. Exactly the way you used to uses it for. Always wanted a canopy, but couldn't afford one. Gonna modify a little bit, fixed if there's something wrong. Lastly wrap it or paint it. Which ever is cheaper.
We got a young fella, Tom, in our group that recently got his Dmax stolen. He got it back albiet without the expensive bits. That canopy would be real handy for him to get going again! PS. nice Cummins patrol in the background there 😉👌
Damn that was some oil. My idea for the canopy would be to trailer mount it for work and play. Half for tools and the other half for keg storage, open it up to find a few taps and get the beers flowing for everyone to enjoy.
I’d put it straight in the man cave and make a bar out of it with a fridge so I can sit down watch your RUclips channel and have the memories from all the years of videos iv watched!!
Would definitely take the canopy down to the farm and fit it out as a bush bar for the boys chuck some fancy nights in there and a sound system and plumb a beer tap would be perfect for the beautiful summer nights and Arvos
I would love to use it for work, I run and manage a small hobby farm where I live in Victoria and it would come in handy for keeping hay dry and so it can keep cheeky bulls out. ☺️ But I would also turn into a weekend warrior, me and my father are planning our last Cape York trip and I think it'll sit nicely on my old 98' LN167 Hilux. ☺️ Better than living out of a tray. 😂
I'd give it as a wedding present, my soon to be brother in law (come April) wants to get out camping with my family more (big camping family). This would be perfect to put onto the back of his ute to set him up for some real touring. Plus he's got the fab skills to fit it to his ute. Would be a nice way to welcome him into the family. :)
Hey I don't have a 79 series and I live in New zealand but I would turn that canopy in to a fish smoker would work well add a chimney and some air vents.
Gday, I’ve never seen as much oil as that in a system before in a 4wd, I’ve seen this happen in trucks before though, as for the canopy I’d like to put my young fellas name in, Trent is 15 and started an apprenticeship and couple of months ago as a welder fabricator, his start his working career as a truck washer at the age of 10 and still does that to this day as well, he’s brought himself a 96 Hilux LN106 single cab, he’d like to put a canopy on but being on apprenticeship wages it’s going to be tight for a while and the canopy has to wait, he’s only got about 5 months till he gets his learners but driving isn’t a problem, I’m a retired truck driver so to see him shift the odd kenworth around is quite common, he does a bloody good job, I think the canopy would really set him up for the ultimate camping setup, please give the boy some thought, I throughly enjoyed see seeing this style of video in the workshop, it’s great to see some of the other employees making an appearance mate, thanks very much Rod, Cheers Matty
Would definitely chuck it on a trailer and use it as a trailer camper! Add a few other mods to it! Would be perfect and also free advertising for wholesales! 😉😉good thing I’m local too!
I would throw the canopy on a custom trailer and kit it out with a great Home Brew beer dispensing machine!! Triple taps, 3 x kegs and maybe a wine fridge! Nice lithium set-up and solar to run it all then hit the tracks with the crew!
Id use it either on the back of my ute or use it for motivation to finish my 4x4 camper trailer that I've been wanting to build for a while now. This would be a great base for the build and would be used well!!
I would build a 4x4 trailer chase and mount the canopy on it! As I’ve been slowly building my prado into a tourer! I’ve been wanting to take my family up along the gibb track and maybe the tip !
Rocket, I reckon the best use would be to insulate it, add some freezer coils and turn it into a man size bar fridge. If you did it on the quiet and not let the missus know, hide it in the man cave and have the boys around, some great parties could be had.
Ever since watching your episodes with 4wd 24/7 i would realy want a canopy for how versatile it is to have ever since for my hilux vigo my very first car passed down from my father being used in the farm it would help me load more stuf without tying plastic covers and also to help me load more egg crates safer for my egg laying buisness Having a super tight budget i cant afford a canopy with the mods made in the car is with friends and family also asking for parts and diy. Love going off road and long trips with family to experience the wild and family bonding.
I'd be a waste to set it up as a chook shed. Watch me and I'll take it around Australia another 3 times! Currently in the market for a canopy exactly like that before I go touring around Aus.
I would really love this canopy for my 79 series dual cab which doesn’t have a tray yet. It’s my dream car and it would help me out a lot because all this stuff is so expensive. I really love to travel and would love to explore Australia, it would be a dream come true to be able to get this canopy on my car so I can finally get it on the road.
First thing i thought of was i got a sweet old darwin luggage trailer frame an that box be perfect for it an make it a camper trailer an think my 2 little doggos would love it too . Would get a good roof top tent for it since the kings floor is 1mm floor an 1 mm of plastic sheetin on each side an very easy to damage . Good to see the old girl gettin fixed ready for a few more trips around the country .
I’d sort the canopy out with my son in law, a patrol patriot, by doing a camper trailer build. Roof top tent a great start but just a start.. It’d also add to the Toyota parts I’ve given to son in law from my 79 over the years. Sooner or later he will be a toyota boy 😀 I reckon we’d make a beaut camper trailer out of it for boy, my daughter, and 2 billy lids (6 and 2). It’d be a terrific build job for us all and move them from swags to something a lot more practical. kennym
I would love the canopy Rod been watching your episodes a lot my plan for the Canopy would be to put on a 6 x 4 trailer and set it up as a camping trailer so I can finally get my wife to come out and camping
I am setting up an ex mining 79 series and have looked at canopies but are a bit pricey - if I managed to score your canopy I would be able to fit it up with a bit of room left on the tray for a dog box and the roof tent an even better bonus - gets me on the tracks quite a bit sooner too
I would turn it in to a camper trailer,I wanted to start reducing weight in my patrol and tow a trailer instead and this would be a awesome starting point to deck it out with draws, storage and full 12 volts system 🤙🏼
something in that spring was shifting when you were bashing the shock retaining washer flat, probably would remove the u bolts and make sure the pins not sheared off or anything.
I just got shacked up with a new misses and she has 3 lil tackers and my god we all went on our first camping trip and I’ve never known a woman to pack a house to go away camping. We had to take 2 vehicles just to cart all the stuff. I’m simple swag, fridge, fishing gear and the dog. I really need a canopy to adapt to a trailer just so we can fit all the kids and her stuff in. I been looking at Telstra back canopies to mount to a trailer but the dollars for them secondhand is a bit steep. Who knows if I win this a may have to spend some money on the ol patrol to trick the auto up a bit 🤙 cheers fellas
I’ll put in the back yard next to the fire pit with the roof tent put it on it and keep it for the kids as a cubby house they can use as a kitchen/lounge/etc I’ll deck it out with lights water and comfort and then they sleep on top it will be a great cubby house for the kids and friends 👌👌👌🙏
I would absolutely love the canopy I've been trying to save to kit out my 08 hilux for the last few years but things have gotten in the way much like alot of people and if I won the canopy it much just give me the motivation to really start the build, I would love to do a video converting the factory tub to the canopy aswell as document my other modifications as I go along
I wanna upgrade my camping setup on my Mitsi Triton from my tub and canopy to tray and canopy. Would absolutely love to use it for my camp trips away and take a bit of Rocket Rod with me everywhere I go.
Would love to see it on the back of my old 75 series. First car I have ever owned and I have my first trip to the cape coming up in a couple month's. Spent all my spare cash fixing the suspension and injection pump so looks like I'm gonna have to go without a canopy.
I would build my own trailer for it to enjoy the canopy the way you have for many years. Maybe a few upgrade. The drifta pop up tent make it the 2.0 wholesale automatic transmission canopy.
Would absolutely love the canopy! I’d be making a trailer frame for it, which will be the start of my camping/toy hauler build. Would be absolutely perfect👌🏻
OMG this would be amazing for the Medieval club I help run. We often have trouble getting our tents and equipment to club events without them getting wet, and as a NFP we try to keep our member prices low so everyone can afford to enjoy the hobby. This would work great on our 6x4 trailer, and fit everything in without issues at all.
I would use the canopy on my Ute for work on the weekdays and the occasional trip on the weekend. Keep it simple and would be very helpful for my apprenticeship
I just got back into 4WDriving and so at the moment I am trying to build up some camping Equipment, but campers are so expensive with all the Covid tax happening so I am having to rent a camper van when I want to go camping. So if I won the canopy, I be getting a 4x4 trailer and droping the Canopy ontop off it. This will give me a good base to then build off, so I can build up a nice camping rig so I can take the family camping and show my daughter the sites of this great country.
my dad and i just bought a gu patrol ute as a project car for us to work on and this would be an amazing place for us to start at! Great watching you guys in the uk, I would use as a camper trailer, for European touring trips with all the sign writing left on!!!
Awesome I'd use it in the backyard as my new dog house for when misses kicks me out and turn canopy in a room and use roof top tent sorted 👍 😀

Hey Rocket, my turbo is in the same state as yours haha pouring oil all over the place (intake and exhaust) new one on is way! 😅
Cheers legend 🍻
I'd throw it on top of my shed and have the TV and beer fridge inside the canopy and have the roof top tent set up for when I get kicked out of the house 😄 pretty handy having a telescopic ladder as well , kids can't come and annoy you 😀

Will definitely be going in my shed , the rooftop would be well used with my situation spending 3 nights a week in the dog house 🤣
Rocket, when using the knockometer to rework the washer on the Left Hand bottom shock mount, you where knocking the U bolts and axle forward on the spring pack. Not a large amount, but you might want to check the axle alignment now.
I would give it a refresh and the opportunity to go another couple of laps around Oz, it deserves to live on …..

I laughed when you called the hammer a knocker-ometer. There's a guy in the states that calls it a standard issue Tonya Harding. 😆😆😆
We would set it up in the back yard, add an en-suite tent and turn it into a tiny house for when the mother in-law visits. 😉
I would use the Canopy to store firewood and with the roof top tent, that makes ideal accommodation for the Mother In Law when she visits.

A very worn turbo. Thanks for the video.
Better than living out of a tray. 😂
I'd use the canopy to make a camping trailer on my 6x4 trailer love the videos and what U guys are doing keep up the good work
Would give it to my old man for his 79 and send him on a holiday because being on a cattle station, haven’t seen my parents go anywhere for 10+ years
I'd give it as a wedding present, my soon to be brother in law (come April) wants to get out camping with my family more (big camping family).
I have to agree with you Rod, 90 series Koni Raids are incredible shocks. Speaking from experience,
I would throw the canopy on a custom trailer and kit it out with a great Home Brew beer dispensing machine!!
Rocket, I reckon the best use would be to insulate it, add some freezer coils
and turn it into a man size bar fridge. If you did it on the quiet and not
let the missus know, hide it in the man cave and have the boys around,
some great parties could be had.
Ha ha ha ha ha
What an awesome episode
Gold 😂😂😂😂😂
Ever since watching your episodes with 4wd 24/7 i would realy want a canopy for how versatile it is to have ever since for my hilux vigo my very first car passed down from my father being used in the farm it would help me load more stuf without tying plastic covers and also to help me load more egg crates safer for my egg laying buisness
Having a super tight budget i cant afford a canopy with the mods made in the car is with friends and family also asking for parts and diy.
I really love to travel and would love to explore Australia, it would be a dream come true to be able to get this canopy on my car so I can finally get it on the road.
will love to fit back of Isuzu 300 NPS crew cab and repair the tray body on my truck
thank you for sharing on your video
First thing i thought of was i got a sweet old darwin luggage trailer frame an that box be perfect for it an make it a camper trailer an think my 2 little doggos would love it too . Would get a good roof top tent for it since the kings floor is 1mm floor an 1 mm of plastic sheetin on each side an very easy to damage . Good to see the old girl gettin fixed ready for a few more trips around the country .
I would either make it into a pizza oven, or give to me mate. Nice Christmas present for him🤣
I would put in on a trailer and turn into a budget camper, chuck an awning onto it with the roof top tent. Perfect setup to take the kids out with.
I use the canopy for storing my garden tools in my back yard.
If can be use to be a shed for garden tools like Bush cutter and mower.thanks mate
I’d sort the canopy out with my son in law, a patrol patriot, by doing a camper trailer build. Roof top tent a great start but just a start.. It’d also add to the Toyota parts I’ve given to son in law from my 79 over the years. Sooner or later he will be a toyota boy 😀
I reckon we’d make a beaut camper trailer out of it for boy, my daughter, and 2 billy lids (6 and 2). It’d be a terrific build job for us all and move them from swags to something a lot more practical.
kennym
this would be perfect as i just rolled my ute and would be a great kick start for my next build or to keep some things dry for a trailer
I would love the canopy Rod been watching your episodes a lot my plan for the Canopy would be to put on a 6 x 4 trailer and set it up as a camping trailer so I can finally get my wife to come out and camping
I am setting up an ex mining 79 series and have looked at canopies but are a bit pricey - if I managed to score your canopy I would be able to fit it up with a bit of room left on the tray for a dog box and the roof tent an even better bonus - gets me on the tracks quite a bit sooner too
Reakon she would look smick on my camper trailer ive just finished building up and painting the kids would love the roof top tent to would be awesome
I would turn it in to a camper trailer,I wanted to start reducing weight in my patrol and tow a trailer instead and this would be a awesome starting point to deck it out with draws, storage and full 12 volts system 🤙🏼
something in that spring was shifting when you were bashing the shock retaining washer flat, probably would remove the u bolts and make sure the pins not sheared off or anything.
the canopy would be great for somewhere for my mother in law to sleep when she comes to visit
That canopy would look good on my sons 75 series I would give it to him for Xmas
I'd put it on wheels and use it for tool storage in the shed! (are you keeping the current stickers on it, can't change them!)
I’ll put in the back yard next to the fire pit with the roof tent
put it on it and keep it for the kids as a cubby house they can use as a kitchen/lounge/etc I’ll deck it out with lights water and comfort and then they sleep on top it will be a great cubby house for the kids and friends 👌👌👌🙏
And Im starting up a veterans and first responders adventure company. The camper on a box trailer will help with ease of setup and pull down each trip
love watching this rebuild.
Hi Rod and Stew, I'd use the canopy as is. I'd keep your stickers on it and and put it on my 40 Series Toyota and have it as free advertising for you.
Mate i reckon the kids would love that as a tree house
I would build my own trailer for it to enjoy the canopy the way you have for many years. Maybe a few upgrade. The drifta pop up tent make it the 2.0 wholesale automatic transmission canopy.
Can`t wait for next episode💪💪. Why not get new 79 and build it up and just use this old one for showing autos at shows?
I know what you mean about the blurry eyes . Good to see the boss on the tools .
Good episode Rocket..... Time to upgrade so it goes faster
I would definitely use it to build my own off-road trailer with the roof top tent it would be an awesome all in one home away from home
I would set it up for my soon to come trailer build!
my dad and i just bought a gu patrol ute as a project car for us to work on and this would be an amazing place for us to start at! I’m only 13 so it would be a good start for me learning how to make it fit! And you never know i can maybe try to make it look like your old gu you used in 4x4 action🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️. thanks for the opportunity
