Not even slightly concerned about what’s being said. The mood and tone of this song is more than enough to love it
To me the lyrics sound like the pov of a guy who used to be this super popular college football star until he tore his ACL and it ended his career and ruined his life. Now he's broke, out of shape, way past his prime and drowning in self loathing, blaming everything on his injury and not being able to move on. But even though he's a complete wreck, he finds this one girl and she reignites his fire and motivates him to snap out of it and try to reclaim his life.
