My son and my daughter's boyfriend both hooked onto something huge and got spooled using their light tackle surf rods. Then my son went to his second rod and got spooled again. My son thought they were big rays, and he's probably right, but I told them that if you don't know what they were then just assume they were a gigantic halis! He did say his second one was head-shaking and he was on it a lot longer before my friend had to back away from the rocks and we think maybe that's why he started losing line and breaking off. For your future reference, we tried swimbaits, jigs and frozen squid and got no bites until my son broke out his salted squid, then bang!, three big somethings in short order.

Hahaha yea, its not much, but I learned something. Even rudimentary basics are foreign to me but I'm gonna do my best to get through the learning curve quickly!
Now that you are a motorboat owner, you need to spend some time learning the basics about motors. You safety could depend on you having the knowledge to fix your engine when it quits when you're out in the open ocean. Fishing comes second after basic seamanship. You obviously didn't even know what a choke did or why it was on your motor. That is inexcusable. Spend some time educating yourself about all of the aspects of operating a boat on the ocean. Those things are far more important than all of your fishing knowledge.

Thank you for the encouragement as always. Its not always easy sharing silly mistakes or embarrassing moments but hey, I'm just a normal dude and it would be pretty fake to pretend those things happen. And I figure if there's someone out there that's inexperienced like me, hopefully they can learn from me lol!
And wow, that's a great fish story. Our day there was extremely slow but I can tell that there is some good fishing to be had all around there. I'm looking forward to learning those waters. So interesting how a tiny adjustment from regular squid to salted squid triggered the frenzy!
Lol I was laughing at you to be honest
I knew your engine will die as soon as u started 😂
Sorry I'm not trying to be mean but it's because that happened to me first time running my own boat you reminded me when I was a knob as well
Also brother can I give you an advice please
After you land on your spot that you about to cast at try to kill your engine don't cast while engine running got multiple reasons
1 your boat will keep drifting to a certain angle depends on the water movement
2 noises of the engine will scare fish away
3 you save your gas
4 it avoid over heating the seals of your motor so they don't sieze up
This will make your engine last longer and you have less hustle when you out boat fishing
Love your videos brother maybe I will bump into you one day in Redondo beach surf fishing
Haha, love the comment bro, thank you. No shame in my game, I'm new to the world of motor's and boats so I have a lot to learn!
I appreciate your tips, they are good ones! Thank you and tight lines!🤙
hey bejie great vids. Do you still use the scout from time to time or what happened if you dont mind me asking.
Hi Brandon, I haven’t used it in like 1.5 years. Not for any good reason…just so many things and places to fish and not enough time. Was def my intention to put heavy use to it but I just didn’t happen. Love the scout tho, no issues with it or anything.
@@BenjieKimFishing thanks for the quick response haha. Love my scout got it after watching ur videos a while back. Once your schedule clears up maybe we can take them out and troll for halibut. tight lines as always!
@@brandonlee5796I don’t anticipate any time soon but absolutely! Thank you for your support and stoke!
Those oil islands get some huge sand bass at night if you're willing to make the trip 😎
Oh man, I don't doubt it! I'm not much of a night fisherman but that may change later this year because I really want some lobster!
I feel drop shot takes some skill and finesse. Its just a really effective technique and makes it seem easy. I've definitely seen people struggle with it
Good word, I can agree with your assessment!
@@BenjieKimFishing You're pretty efficient with it. I'd say you got some skill
Perfect boat if you don't have a large vehicle to drag it around -- much better than a kayak
Nice video dude, I think most wouldnt post these sort of experiences. Kudos to helping other newbies. Im looking forward to seeing more trips out! Btw, just something to note... Look up what flooding your motor is and how to remedy it. I'm sure that situation will arise at some point in your journey if it hasn't.
Oh my goodness, that’s such a helpful suggestion regarding flooding my motor. Thank you for the positive vibes and insightful suggestion, I wouldn’t have thought of that until it happened....which would really suck!
how much was boat registration ?
Man for the life of me, I just can't remember exactly. But it was not expensive. I think maybe around $70??
@@BenjieKimFishing nice... did you go to dmv or some sort of registration mobile place to get it?
@@thatonebeone AAA. This was my first time doing something like this but I was told this was the best way. I was in and out of there quick!
@@BenjieKimFishing did you get your stickers and CF number same day? dont they mail you like the title weeks later ?
@@thatonebeone man I can’t remember for sure if I got the title the same day but I want to say yes.
I for sure got my cf numbers/stickers the same day tho.
Never kiss a Long Beach fish!
haha this is #truth. A spur of the moment action that would def not be advisable lol!
Yewww
Thanks for all the tips, haha I can see you was a bit nervous. I can’t wait to get my own. Your honesty is going to make you very popular on RUclips. By the way nice camara angles
So much positive stoke and encouragement here....thank you so much man, that means a lot to me.
Wishing you a great rest of the day!
Awesome... how was that first on water experience in your new boat? Looks like you picked the perfect day.🎣😃
Hey Dan! I had a blast man, right now I'm just trying to learn the ropes.
I should have commented on your vid the other day but it was SUPER helpful for gaining insight on surf launching....which is ultimately what I'm trying to build to!
Awesome video man, the clown music had me rolling XD
Hahaha, thank you brotha, I had to make fun of myself there for that one!
Lol u learned something
Hahaha yea, its not much, but I learned something. Even rudimentary basics are foreign to me but I'm gonna do my best to get through the learning curve quickly!
At least you didn’t actually break the new motor your first trip out! 😂
100% agreed!! I wouldn't put doing something like that past someone like me so I am VERY grateful for even that! lol!
Bailey's Baits....lets go!!! :)
😂😂😂 the clown music 🤡
lol, I had to include that because in that moment I was a clown!
Cant wait for more boat videos congrats!
Thank you, I'm looking forward to some fun adventures!
