That last one is hilarious and diabolical. I've never heard of that baby smaug combo but there are two wizards in our group with find familiar (me being one) I have to bring this up cause it sounds awesome
This is fairly well known in the AL world. Since familiars are so useful and, until recently, you could not actually attack with a Familiar. So make your Flyby Owl the target of the spell and have at your enemies with the breath weapon that they can trigger since it is a save. Or have this on a pole arm master/ sentinel build and draw agro by sending the owl with heartburn out and then land on you so when they come for the bird you smack them with your glaive and freeze them in their tracks.
These are all fun. Most are suboptimal only because they require multiple turns to pull off which divides the projected damage by the number of turns. For example, suggestion/dim door: round 1 no damage, rd 2 was 75 damage. So your actual damage was 37.5 per round. Do you have another single spell you could cast 2 rounds in a row, or a concentration spell you could combo with cantrips? Also consider: if you land suggestion “you should quit the battle, it’s too dangerous but also leave town since you don’t want to be punished by your boss for having good sense.” That wins that fight right there. Target the boss with “your men are more valuable alive then dead and you’ll lose too many here, sound the retreat and cut your losses.” Fight over. Why burn a higher level slot and drag it out other than spite?
The Artificer's Cannonball Special is the single most damaging single turn combo I've ever pulled off at 1st Level. Start with casting Magic Stone on an already prepared 1 pound stone that has been broken into three pieces and glued back together (Tinker's Tools includes a pot of glue). Now you have one object that is also three individual magic rocks; the next step is, of course, the Catapult spell. Magic Stone says that you CAN throw or sling the stones; not that you MUST, and the damage is applied when they hit, which they will undoubtedly do when Catapulted. 3d6+3d8+(3×Spellcasting Modifier) magical Bludgeoning damage. Save or die, motherlover. (Addendum: this can now be pulled off by ANY class that can get both spells via Magic Initiate (Druid for Magic Stone, or Wizard for Catapult.)
You can’t be one object and multiple objects for the purposes of two different spells simultaneously. Either you’re one object for the catapult spell or you’re three rocks for the magic stone spell. This isn’t going to work on anyone who actually thinks about it for more than a second. Also it doesn’t “undoubtedly hit” with Catapult as the spell specifically requires a creature hit by the catapulted object to make a DEX save. It’s also a save or suck type of spell so if they do save you don’t even deal damage.
@trexdrew Ah, but it doesn't say multiple objects it says 3 stones. It doesn't specify that they need to be separate items; you are simply meant to assume that. Secondly, I never said it would automatically hit, I specifically said, "Save or..." This is clearly an early game combo; before legendary resistances start showing up. Finally, why are you being a stick in the mud? This game is supposed to be fun, and cleverness makes the story more interesting.
@@stanrobinson6708 lmao you’re the asinine one trying to rules lawyer badly to DM’s that things that are required to be separate can also be together 🙄
Someone could rule that Spike Growth needs to use your movement speed. Additionally. Try to avoid this behaviour. The issue is that the word "Broken" will be immediately dealt with your DM going "I'm not allowing you??? to do this???" Sure, a DM could find "Oh that's pretty cool." then see that it's a copied combo from some random video. The word "Broken-" followed by anything can lead to really toxic behaviour at a table. You can go and say "Here are really powerful spell options, here are the ways you could use those spells with other spells, and here's spells that are genuinely broken that, as a DM, you could consider banning" (conjure minor elementals). Additionally, 6:52, multiple classes do not have the smite spells. I think the only way for others to get them is via hexblade warlock or shadow-touched. Also, you can't say the words "Broken combos-" and fit in Dragon's Breath and Familiar. You're trying to capitalize on DnD 5.24's release for your channel. I'll admit, I haven't heard of Maelstrom being used in that way. This is not the way to go about it. You don't become reputable for the words "MOST BROKEN SPELLS IN DND 5.24." There's one guy who does a "CRAZY BROKEN COMBOS" series, he's got a beard and a beanie I'm sure you've seen him, and so many people just hate his guts because he can get things SO WRONG and he's trying to break the game and trying to spread that message that making a simulacrum army of true polymorphed dragons is a perfectly okay thing to do at your table.
Spike Growth explicitly does work with any movement forced or willing. So yes it will work with the ways he mentions. Also the simulacrum army is very real and very achievable provided you have the time and the ability to do it. The true polymorph bit is a new addition to the idea that I hadn’t heard but the problem with that is that it uses your LV meaning there’s only a couple ancient dragons that are actually viable. Looking at the 2024 version of the Simulacrum spell though the funniest part is that they explicitly say “the copy CAN NOT cast this spell” because they knew about it.
Someone can argue anything, but based on how Spike Growth is written I think most would agree with my explination. None of these combos are game breaking. They are powerful and fun, but nothing too crazy that any rational DM would say no (aside from the ones I specifically call out in the video). People get too hung up on single words. Regardless of whether I say "Broken" or "Super Powerful" or "Busted" or "Bad", I think that as long as everyone at the table is there to have fun then no one should have any problems with anything I mentioned. Technically, 4 classes have access to some version of smite spells, Paladins (obviously) Hexblade Warlocks, Forge Clerics and Battlesmith Artificers and personally, I do think that Find Familiar is one of the stronger combos on the list. Getting a free AoE 3d6 per round is literally action economy dream. You may disagree, but again we go back to simply having a problem with the definition of a single word lol I want to be clear that I 100000000% hear what your saying here but I really don't think anything in this video is comparable to the ridiculous "peasant railgun" or crazy combos that legitimatly break the game. Everything I mentioned is actually a viable combo that doesnt "abuse" mechanics to "break" the game. Not to mention that any combo that is a little iffy with wording I spedcifically mention and call out during my explination. I really think that I am different from that guy because I am not trying to break the game, I am trying to provide fun and unique examples of what you can do in the game. If you truly think that these combos are unhealthy for a player to try to pull out then I think that we are just not going to agree.
Got a midlevel one from 5th edition; Synaptic Static followed up by Flesh to Stone, then spamming Mind Sliver until satisfied. Synaptic Static is basically a higher level psionic fireball, with the extra benefit of debuffing all their saving throws by 1d6 for the next minute. Flesh to Stone immediately restrains the enemy immediately upon failing their saving throw, and if they fail again the next few rounds they're straight up petrified. The Mind Sliver cantrip further debuffs their next saving throw by 1d4 and it stacks with Synaptic Static, a brutal way to outright delete most enemies if you wait.
The secret chest and feign death one MIGHT work provided the DM’s of all your viewers agree with you “tricking” magic like that. The issue I immediately see though is the fact that your “dead” character has no air. Since this isn’t meant for living creatures it doesn’t create any extra air beyond what was in it before it was sealed. So you’re effectively using this to bury them alive with an extraplanar flare. Points for creativity but now I’m going to have to do the math on how much air can fit in the chest with your friend included while subtracting how much air a comatose person breathes within an hour’s time! 😅
I don't think its "tricking" magic since feign death says "...and to spells used to determine the target’s status". I think that one line means it technically work,s but the air thing is another topic lol. I assume a cataleptic state means they aren't breathing but that is 1000000% up to interpretation hahahaha
0:24 The blender 's fun is only limited by the fact it that is requires 2 druids or 1 druid and 1ranger
also don't use it on flying enemies.
Yea, some spell lists narrow the optiosn a bit but I'm just happy it exists hahaha
The Feign Death/Secret Chest combo is perfect for a bounty hunter hauling their bounty back to the authorities.
Thats a great example!

What is D&D if not for fun xD
As soon as I read Dragons Breath the first time. I slapped on my squirrel familiar. Oh the fun of a fire breathing chipmunk 😁
A Fire-breathing Chipmunk encapsulates D&D in a nutshell
This is team up combos. No casting 2 Concentration Spells even on consecutive turns
👍
Some are, at least the familiar/dragon's breath is only one concentration spell.

@trexdrew Agree to disagree, because I don't value your opinion to continue this asinine argument.
