All comes down to personal preference. Tyde said he would use it for a hike under 8 miles, but anything more than that he would recommend use a dedicated hiking boot.
Salomon was an excellent trail shoe many years ago but quality dropped drastically in the past ten years. I bought several pairs hoping quality would improve only to have each shoe blow apart within 6 to 9 months use and sometimes less. I moved away to Oboz, Keene, etc. I recently bought another Salomon mid height shoe to see if quality had been restored. Time will tell how or if quality has improved. Soloman have always been one of the best fits for me, if this new shoe lasts at least a year I will buy another pair.

Salmon a French brand? Maybe 20 years ago. Today it's owned by China/Tencent, just like Arc teryx. And their quality has dropped a lot recent years
