  • Connor Denis plays and talks about the Vintage Pearl Renown kit.
    Today’s working drummers need a kit that can do it all-and do it well. The newly designed 2016 Gretsch Renown is one of the most versatile drum sets ever made. Now, with one drum set, you can play with the sensitivity and touch to handle the smoothest grooves of the 1950s; the attack and projection required to drive the most powerful compositions of the 60s and 70s; and the clarity and vibrance needed to faithfully reproduce the clean studio sounds of the 80s, 90s and beyond.
    Renown still features the classic 7-ply Gretsch formula maple shells, with 30-degree bearing edges and exclusive “Silver Sealer” interiors. But this Renown comes with a new twist with the addition of the Gretsch's player-friendly “302” hoop-the same hoop used on Gretsch's Brooklyn and Broadkaster series drums. Gretsch 302 hoops produce the desirable focused sound like that of a die cast hoop, but are lighter in weight and less rigid, allowing the drum to better “breath” and achieve maximum resonance. The 2016 Renown delivers the traditional Gretsch sound with an incredible open, harmonic tone that supplies the versatility needed to meet the demands of the hardest working drummers.

    Renown Drums sound better in most cases than the USA sets and have better quality control. I have owned all 3 USA models and I come back to my Renown 24, 13, 16, 18 set. I highly recommend getting this well priced set! Pair it with a USA Custom Nickel Over Steel or Aluminum 14 x 6.5 snare.

    I love a 14” deep bass drum. After playing 18” and even 20” deep bass drums for many years, I went back to a 14” and couldn’t be happier. All that extra depth adds nothing but a lot of weight. I get way more pop out of a 14”.

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille 2 года назад +1

      I feel honestly that most drummer grew out of Truth/SJC/OCD pretty fucking quickly. They look great, but... turn arounds are massive. Much smaller company... You have to get two kits every time your order for a tour, minimum, because they're always custom and you cannot get a copy of the main kit from any backline company. Those companies all had the same philosophy : going after the Vans Warped tour bands, make cool over-the-top finishes, be "cool"... who's left of the big names? Accept Tré cool who's with SJC, and Travis Barker who's still playing Orange County kits last time I checked (It really is a shame that OCD went under, that's a testimony to how insanely roadworthy their drums are...!)... well I don't know who's left. Honestly. And guess what???
      ***Aaron went to Gretsch.*** So did almost all of the top talents who thought those cool drums from edgy companies were the shit... until they realized that, once on the road, they're not anymore. Gretsch is there to stay. He was obsessed with Aaron, not Truth.

    Does anyone else think these drums are like crazy heavy though?

    • @moonodude17
      @moonodude17 7 лет назад

      They are, believe me. I tech for my buddy who owns a 2017 Renown in Blue Metal, and while they sound unbelievable (especially with coated Emperors), they are MUCH heavier than his previous Gretsch, which is a Catalina Club Rock from the stone-ages with a 24x18 bass drum. The Luan mahogany used in the Cats is more forgiving. In fact, I think his (my friend) Renown 13x9 rack tom weighs almost as much as his Cat 18x16 floor tom.
      Oh well. At least they hold up. Resilient drums, and he's over the moon about them, but weight-wise, they'll make you work.
