- Why Professional Guitarists Are RUSHING to Find These Vintage Parlor Guitars
🎸 Free Guitar Lessons: jimmydillon.co...
In this video, I demonstrate techniques for playing in open E tuning on my rare 1920s Larson parlor guitar from Chicago. I explain how these guitars were crafted by European instrument makers who immigrated to America.
I show basic chord shapes and progressions (1-4-5) that work great for beginners, including simple barre chord positions and variations. I demonstrate both fingerpicking and strumming patterns, plus a shuffle groove reminiscent of early Bob Dylan blues.
I also share some advanced tips and showcase what's possible with a pick in this tuning. Perfect for anyone interested in alternative tunings, folk blues, or vintage instruments.

Happy new year jimmy keep on rocking.
Thanks, you too!
Lovely lick. Started messing around with a C chord around it too. Great. New subscriber! 😊
Welcome aboard.
Just realised I've commented on the next video! 🙈 Meant to comment on the previous one with that nice lick around the G chord but I was finishing off my Christmas single malt last night sooooo....😊
Very cool guitar Jimmy. I like the open E tuning
Thats a cracking guitar, im using a sigma OM guitar which is my songwriter. Great lesson and expose of the guitar. I never thought to tune to open E.
I know this is not a "Prairie State" or "Euphonon" model made by the Larson brothers. They also made under the brands "Maurer" and "Stahl". Is there no heat stamp below the sound hole showing a brand name? Nice box any way.
Great sound! How about the Mic Jimmy. Condenser? HNY🎉
Sounds great
Open E perfect for slide on that guitar.
I would do a little reasearch. The Larson Brothers are well known....
CARL LARSON AND HIS BROTHER MADE THE larson brand and others. Also made THE VERY FIRST SOLID BODY GUITAR.
open E? Man thats alot of tension on an old neck. Open D would be alot kinder
Nothing about that looks like a Larson brothers build.
