  • Hello! I'm excited to share my new tutorial with you, guys. I got many requests about wafer paper flowers, so here is a simple rose tutorial. Next time I'm planning to show you how to make an orchid, a dark color rose, a fantasy beautiful flower, a cactus flower and a bearded iris.
    Some of you may not know what a wafer paper is. Let's make it clear. Wafer paper is an edible paper, usually made of rice or potato flour. It's safe to eat and the flavor is very subtle - so it won't interfere with what's going on in your cake. One side of it is smooth, another is textured. Wafer paper doesn't "like" water, so be very gentle with it. It's recommended to use a mix of vodka and water, but I found vodka/water mix a little hard to get details stuck well (I mention this in my video), so I recommend to use pure water. It's better to store your wafer paper flat in a cool place (room temperature is fine) away from heat and sunlight.
    For this particular rose I used about 11 small, 14 medium size and 6 large size petals. You might need more or less, depending on your personal design. I might do it wrong, but that's my own way and I'm sharing my experience.
    Please, leave your comments and let me know what tutorials you are interested in, what you like or dislike about my video and what needs to be improved. I value your time! Thank you for watching and I hope you will find this tutorial useful.

      @arttart4459  4 года назад

      Thank you for watching!
      To be honest, I've never tried either of them, but I'm quite sure the edible glue should work well. I make my own glue:
      1 sheet of wafer paper cut in small pieces
      1.69 oz (45-50 ml) boiling water (you add more if needed)
      Still well until it gets a glue like consistency. Requires refrigerating after using. Good for two days.
      It works better than water.

      I have never used petal dust with vodka for my wafer paper. I use either food coloring gel with very little amount of water, or petal dust without anything. This rose was colored with dry petal dust only.

      I use fondant for buds, but you have to let it dry before adding rose petals. You can also use styrofoam buds.
      As for the storing wafer paper flowers, it requires same conditions as storing fondant pieces: the place has to be dry, cool avoiding direct sunlight. I have a plastic containers with lids for this purpose, but cardboard box is also an option, if you close it tight.

      Puede usar piping gel o muy poca agua para pegarlo. Yo uso papel oblea pegamento casero: 1 hoja de oblea sin color
      45-50 ml de agua hirviendo
      Se puede agregar un poco de jarabe de maíz para que el pegamento sea más pegajoso.
      Debes cortar el papel en pedazos pequeños, agregar agua caliente para que el papel se disuelva por completo, revolver bien para ayudar al proceso. Tu mezcla debe verse como pegamento líquido. Opcionalmente puedes agregar un poco de sirope de maíz.
      Puedes empezar a usarlo cuando se enfríe. El pegamento es bueno por 2 días y debe guardarlo en el refrigerador después de terminar de usarlo.

    How to make wafer paper be more pliable and can be folded without cracking?

    • @arttart4459
      @arttart4459  3 года назад +3

      It depends on paper thickness and quality. Sometimes wafer paper becomes too dry being kept in an open bag. I'd suggest to put it in a larger sealed plastic bag with inserted piece of folded damp paper towel, that is put in its own unsealed plastic bag, so the moisture from the paper towel could be absorbed by wafer paper. Seal the large plastic bag and keep this paper towel inside for 1-2 days. You paper should be easier to work with. Always try to keep the paper in a tight sealed plastic bag.

      Благодарю за комментарий! Я пользуюсь фирмой Wilton и Roxy&Rich, оба бренда одинаково хороши. Для розового цвета я использовала бренд Sunflower Sugar Art, сразу скажу - он кошмарен. Пудра очень тяжело растушевывается, крупинки большие, что больше царапает бумагу, чем окрашивает её, пигмент слабенький, поэтому лучше не связываться с этим брендом.

    What will be the price for a flower like this?

      I have no idea, to be honest. I'm just a hobby and self-taught decorator, so I do it for fun only.

      Para esta rosa en particular usé alrededor de 11 pétalos pequeños, 14 medianos y 6 grandes. Es posible que necesite más o menos, dependiendo de su diseño personal. Puede que lo haga mal, pero esa es mi manera y estoy compartiendo mi experiencia.

    Which colour brand used? And from where you bought it

      I didn't like the brand I used, it was Sunflower Sugar Art. I bought it on Amazon. I suggest you to use Roxy$Rich brand, it works better.

    And what is that tape you are using with metal wire? What that is called

      It's called Floral Stem Wrap Tapes.
      But it's better to buy ready to use wires:

    How long will these stay fresh to use or eat?

      I kept it for more than a year in a closed container and it still good to use. I doubt wafer papers could be eaten, as they are absolutely tasteless, so the shelf time is about a year (or whatever it says on a label).
