    It amazes me that people buy these things. The old WIlliams/Bally games were high quality items whilst Stern pinballs resemble cheap toys . As for people saying they aren't going to make any more of table X, do these people remember Beanie Babys?

      Tell me you don't play stern games without telling me you don't play stern games. New Stern games from Elwin, Jack Danger, etc have flow you'd NEVER see in a Williams game. Gotta appreciate the designs coming out from the designers of today.

    Nirvana is probably a licensing issue. But to be fair, Foo Fighters has been doing stadium tours for 20 years, they are one of the few big rock bands still around.

    • @Hauntworld
      @Hauntworld  4 месяца назад

      No because Nirvana is owned by a license company. Stern is probably just too cheap to pay for the license. Instead you get FOO FIGHTERS... but had they licensed Nirvana they would have sold probalby 5x more machines.

    • @doctoroctos
      @doctoroctos 4 месяца назад

      The exact same foo fighters pin, if it had nirvana music instead of foo fighters, I would have bought it. I don't want to listen to foo fighters any more than its already played on the radio.

    • @Hauntworld
      @Hauntworld  3 месяца назад

      foo fighters have NEVER done a stadium tour. Stadium tours are reserved for bands like Metallica or Taylor Swift. Foo Fighters aren't even close to that level. If you're talking about they're one band of 20 bands that isn't a stadium tour. Foo Fighters aren't that popular just saying... NIRVANA would be sell it before you see it.

    • @doctoroctos

      I got to play foo fighters at an arcade and at a show. I played about 20+ games. I couldn't hear a dang thing because of the ambient noise. Loved the pin, loved the layout, the art, etc. My kids liked the game too. Still the thought of having to listen to foofighters on repeat has me irked. I hope that I can set the music attenuation so that I cannot hear it and just turn on spotify.

    Had some good takes. Until you said do Nirvana instead of Foo Fighters.
    Also Gomez already confirmed that the lack of guns on John Wick was the studio.
    Love the idea of a Three Stooges pinball machine. That would be great!

    • @Hauntworld
      @Hauntworld  4 месяца назад

      First off... I could care less what George Gomez said do you think that is true? Lionsgate makes FOUR MOVIES about John Wick where he kills over 1000 people with GUNS and they tell Stern no guns. You really believe this? Secondly, Nirvana as a collectable is probably worth 50X what Foo Fighters is worth. In terms of fans, album sales, t-shirts, to everything between you couldn't compare Foo Fighters and Nirvana EVER! You're trying to compare a grape to a watermelon. Here is the deal and the point you're missing... yes I get it you like the Foo Fighters, but that doesn't mean its a good title. If your goal is to sell 5000 machines, 10,000 machines you don't pick Foo Fighters, you don't pick Rush, you don't pick Venom or John Wick... you pick Diehard, Caddyshack, Nirvana, Michael Jackson, Prince, you just don't pick fringe themes.

    • @Hauntworld
      @Hauntworld  3 месяца назад

      First off I don't believe what Gomez said that was just an easy out... if I licensed John Wick and the studio said yeah but no guns I would skip the license. That didn't happen. Secondly, are you serious Foo Fighters aren't 1/100th as popular as Nirvana. Its not even close. Go into any Walmart - Target - Spencers you will never see a FOO FIGhTERS shirt for sale yet they'll have multiple versions of Nirvana. You look on spotify, youtube, album sales, it doesn't matter its like comparing a grape to a watermelon. Please!

    Rumor has it that Pokemon is on the docket as a possible future Stern game. If they ever release that, assuming the game itself is solid, I guarantee you it would become their best-selling pin over the past decade by a _colossal_ margin, both in terms of collector purchases and on-location revenue. That's a theme that has near universal appeal, plus it's the perfect way to get the young'uns into pinball. Kids aren't going to give something like Jaws, 007, or Rush a second glance, but I guarantee you'll have a crowd of 'em around a Pokemon pin. That's been a serious concern of mine with modern-day Stern: their current demographic isn't going to be around forever, and who's gonna replace them if you haven't been getting the next generation into pinball?
    You want the industry to crash again? Because that's how you get the industry to crash again.

      I feel like if they really wanna bring in a more millennial and early Gen Z crowd, they could make pinball tables based on bands like Weezer and Gorillaz; or, If they’re crazy enough, they could just come up with a Hatsune Miku pinball machine.

      @@Hauntworld truthfully I think purchasing any LE brand new for the home doesn’t make sense. Buying for a business does when you can use it as a business expense for your tax filing. If you want the full playfield experience, premium is the way to go… unless LE art work speaks to you.. then just wait for price to go down. However, I don’t necessarily agree with some of your theme points .. I think the themes are fine. If they released something different.. people still would have asked for XYZ. If Stern came out with BTTF… folks who don’t care for that theme would have asked “why not blah blah”. I like BTTF but I actually don’t care about a pinball machine for it

    John Wick doesn't have much of John Wick in it. You have a few scenes, but Wick never says anything. The entire game is voiced by Ian McShane. Then again, the new JP didn't have the music from the movie or "Welcome to Jurassic Park.".
    While Jaws nails all of this

  • @dangerdonk6670

    I would also add that when/IF Pokemon is announced it won't even sell that well. How many 45+ year olds (or even 55+ and 65+ specifically) are going to buy this theme? For their grand kids? Sure a couple dudes might. Will 25-40 year olds go ape shit when they hear about this? Yes, but how many have $1500 in the bank let alone $8-13k lol. VERY FEW. I think it will be interesting to see how a pin like that does. Put Elwin on it, put Pokemon on it and let see how many units it sells. Now, go do The Goonies, Van Halen, Def Leppard or something and put your worst designer on it and see how it does.

  • @dangerdonk6670
    @dangerdonk6670 4 месяца назад

    I think you nail a lot of the problems in the industry that are out in the open. A lot of this can be solved by these companies just choosing better themes. If Elton John was the same game, with Richie on it but the theme was The Goonies they would have sold $8000+ units. Instead, Jack and his wife like Elton and thought "hey this would be a good pinball machine" and marched forward because they wanted it made. Too many "yes men" at these companies and nobody saying, "Thats a stupid theme or stupid idea.". All that time, energy going into lame themes. Now on the Stern side, they are getting real competition now so we have context. $13k LEs that are worth $9k 90 days later is reality. $2k toppers ARE A JOKE. Their business model is upside down and its taking them too long to realize it. Then enter someone like Barrels of Fun. LE quality, features for $2-3k less. $900 toppers that move and speak. BoF is filling the gap in the market created by Stern and JJP right now. Theme-wise Labyrinth is AMAZING. Not everyone's cup of tea but a massive cult following and they're selling great. Truthfully, I hope BoF gets the Goonies license and just skyrockets in the industry. Then you have American Pinball just sitting in the corner doing whatever they want and losing customers. Spooky has done a lot good and growing well. Stern and JJP need to reset.

    I’m a casual fan of Rush and Foo Fighters lol. Foo fighters is a better choice than Nirvana for a pinball game. Kurt cobain killed himself because he didn’t want the fame, let him rest. Foo fighters have been around 3 times as long as Nirvana was and I think it’s safe to say a ton of their fans are younger and don’t give a crap about nirvana. They being said…I’m mid 40s, been playing pinball all my life yet I’ve never bought one. I looked into buying one like 15 years ago and they were around 5-6k on average used. I thought that was too much to pay for a pinball machine. I think that’s around the same time Stern was making a comeback and making more games again and they were coming out at 10-12k, and that was when I realized I’ll probably never own a pinball machine in my life. They should just make original themed machines and stop licensing expensive IP.

    My problem with John Wick is actually that I never heard of it before the pinball machine came out. I can name dozens of Rush songs, and I'm only a casual listener who never bought one of their records. I couldn't name one John Wick film. My all-time favorite game is Funhouse, a totally original theme. When they came out with Rudy's Nightmare, I didn't want it. When they announced the remake, I didn't want it. I want the original. I want...originality...not some licensed theme that misses the mark, and the only people who know what the theme is are disappointed.

    On point video I just turned 50 and our local crowd of owners are between 35=50. I route and sell mods myself. I think there is a smart way to grow pinball and that will be to make popular video game themes. I'd love to see Halo, Call of Duty, other popular VG themes to bring in millions of new players. That's what a 50 year old remembers, not the 3 stooges. Everyone has an opinion on themes and you are correct about Stern missing the boat frequently. Jaws was a disappointing theme to me who wants to see pinball evolve quicker towards that dream of playing Fallout or Grand Theft Auto before I die.

Secondly, I'm suggesting they do the same thing with OLDER games much older that you might not own... and make a couple changes like they did with Beatles or Batman 66 and give us a theme we want to buy that might not warrant in their mind a full development. Wouldn't you love a fast times at ridgemont high for say $9500 bucks just take a game like Dale Earnhart or XFiles or and bam. The intent is creating a collectible market.

I want to be reminded of classic scenes and iconic moments. Let me finish off by saying HBO's Tales From the Crypt will always be my favorite pinball machine. It had classic scenes related to the show and it all played out in the pinball game itself, and it was all tied together with the Crypt Keeper. To make great pinball you need it all.

      This is why Foo is by far my favorite music pin not just by Stern, but _ever._ Look at your typical band-themed pin; it almost always boils down to little more than "play random modes while 's songs play in the background." Foo, on the other hand, actually has a coherent theme beyond that: you're fighting aliens and robots! You're stopping the Overlord's invasion of Earth! It's one of the exceedingly rare cases where the band is secondary to the overall theme: you could take out every last reference to Foo Fighters and still have a solid alien invasion-themed pin on your hands. Take the band out of virtually any other music pin and there's nothing left.
