Good thought. One note on using nuts or wingnuts is to never fully tighten them down. This puts undo stress on the grommet and can cause wear and tear on that grommet area.
The first thing I thought about with your question is "why are you asking this"? Meaning, are you experiencing a problem with your awning, or are you just wondering if there is a way to avoid a future issue? Generally speaking the only issue you could run into is sun damage because of a long term set up. If this is the case, you will want to use our vinyl fly and awning. Our vinyl product is acrylic coated giving it extra longevity. If you are using your tent for hunting for a couple weeks and maybe a couple of camping trips a year, you won't have an issue with sun damage for a decade or more.
Thanks for the heads up on this. The nut size is 10mm with a 1.5 thread. If you would like to email me at will@davistent.com I would love to send you our newest "cut list" sheet with info graphics to get your feedback on if this will help clarify your question or thoughts about corner pieces.
Absolutely love it !!! Thank you
Great video... the last tent sure looks familiar :)
Also, I did wing nuts as well just for added comfort if a high wind comes up it will keep the rain fly on.

Can you state the nut size here? Also, would be helpful if tent instructions informed that corner pieces are different if using awning.
