When Shazam looked at the shock on the faces of the people distracting Supes he knew what they were thinking; He actually knocked out Supes with one punch! Shazam felt the need to clarify: "I took him by suprise put every bit of my strength into that punch. He is more vulnerable to my powers being magic and I think there was a bit of luck involved too." Nearly any other being would be throwing a party and bragging to anyone who would listen. However Shazam has the wisdom of Solomon. He knew that 1) he would never get a chance like that again and 2) Face to face is entirely different from a surpise attack. One of the basics of fighting is rolling with a punch and in this instance Supes couldn't do that and took the full force. That is exactly why they set up the sneak attack instead of Shazam going for a full on fight. Far less chance of Shazam coming out on top. Now Shazam is one of the few that can go toe to toe with Superman, due to his magical abilities making Supes a bit more vulnerable but by no means does it make Superman a lightweight and he is still more than capable of returning the knockout punch in a straight up fight. That's not even counting Supermans willpower and never-give-up personality. This should have been titled 'Heroes that COULD defeat Superman' not WOULD. I believe he has had to face them all at one time or another and at least stalemated but usually come out on top. Last I would like to note that none of these heroes or anyone else for that matter has an Ace up his sleeve that compares to being able to fly into the sun and come back with the power to make nearly any fight a one punch win. It might take two punches for the really powerful ones. If Superman had done that just before his first fight with Doomsday there would have not been a "Death of Superman" storyline.

Even Supes had to learn that even though he is generally the most powerful being wherever he goes he can still be stopped cold by an enemy not as powerful but has their own experience and tactics. I like it when Supes or any other hero that could generally overpower most enemies decides on a less physical way and avoids a lot of property damage and risk to people. Lastly I want to point out something that has bothered me for a whole lot of years: A yellow sun gives Superman his power and abilities. The solar power fills every cell and in turn those cells build all the organs, tissue, bones, etc. making them all nearly invulnerable inside and out. It also let's them all operate at levels that are rarely matched. But although he has been considered and called a genius it is actually nerfing what his mental capabilities should be. His brain is an organ built with the same cells as the rest of his body and should be amped up at the same level as the rest of him. The two top intellects usually named are Lex and Bruce. If they actually gave him the mental abilities to match his physical abilities then Lex and Bruce would seem like an average third grader to him. He could instantly understand concepts and ideas, strategies, mechanical functions, cause and effect, evaluate situations with a few small bits of information, and so very much more. But they really can't do that can they? A lot of people think he is boring because he is so powerful/overpowered.If you made him one of the most intelligent beings in the universe along with one of the most physically powerful he would become as boring as they say. There would be very little he coud not do with relative ease. He would have to travel into different parts of of the universe so they could create other beings to even give him a challenge. So I know why they can't do it but I don't like that they have to. That would be a Superman that was truly OP and fun to watch him deal with his biggest threats then. IMHO, Superman and Martian Manhunter are the mightiest characters. The only characters Superman & Martian Man Hunter can't really compete against with are the Spectre and Dr. Fate. Those two characters are straight up on another level of the power paradigm than Superman and Martian Manhunter.

Even though originally, he could only jump great heights and not fly. Things were modified. So when new characters have been developed *after* Superman, of course Superman became the 'model' to use. But then again, there's a version of Superman that is god-like (Cosmic armored Superman), so anyone can play this game.

Wonder woman could barely take mongul. If it wasn't for superman mongul would have killed her. At times they write wonder woman to be more powerful than she actually is. Superman nearly killed her thinking he was fighting dooms day. He even broke her wrist just by grabbing her. This is one of the reasons I stopped reading comics. They are never consistent.

The only people in this list that can take down superman are Spectra and doctor fate. Marshian man can be at per with superman, but won't be able to overpower him in a one -on-one battle. Also the fact that anybody can just pull out kryptonite is very annoying. Kryptonite is suppose to be very rare, thus only a few can be gotten, so the fact that Batman can pull out series of kryptonite from his utility belt is very silly. This is ridiculous. They may be characters with more powers or certain abilities of superman, however in truth superman is as powerful as the writers want to make him so this is ridiculous. With the Raiders need to do is bring Superman into his own glory like Marvel does with the Hulk

1) it’s wrong that Shazam always beats Superman unless there’s an external help that’s completely wrong… Superman has actually won more times in comics and every time in animations. Shazam isn’t stronger than Superman, Superman is very well stronger.
2) captain atom hasn’t won all his fight with Superman either, Superman has actually won most of it comics and every time in animations as well, even with the red solar radiation… supes still wins… Superman is physically way stronger than Captain atom. But no doubt captain atom possesses the power to beat supes but he’s not stronger.
Supergirl is in no way stronger than Superman, in fact it’s not even close, like Superman is wayyyyy stronger than Supergirl. Even Wonder Woman is stronger than supergirl… the only reason Kara initially appeared to be stronger was because she had no restraint and couldn’t control her powers… but Superman bitch slaps her every single time he wants to.

Wonder woman could barely take mongul. If it wasn't for superman mongul would have killed her. At times they write wonder woman to be more powerful than she actually is. Superman nearly killed her thinking he was fighting dooms day. He even broke her wrist just by grabbing her. This is one of the reasons I stopped reading comics. They are never consistent.
