    Although your video is nice to show the features, I don't see much value in multiple desktops. What am I missing?
    When working with maximized apps, the only advantage that I can see over multiple windows on 1 desktop is that they don't take up taskbar space.
    In my opinion, for this feature to bring true advantages of replacing monitors or creating life/work borders, it needs these features:
    1. Different shortcut icons on different desktops so that they can be grouped as work or play or video etc
    2. Different color scheme and background so that it is obvious if a desktop is work or play or video etc
    3. Ability to assign resolutions independently to each desktop. Some apps require more real estate, but small font is hard to see on every app. Others do not need the space, and it is better to be able to read larger text and see larger icons.
    Am I missing something?

      Two more really lame responses that prevent usefulness:
      4. if I change the zoom in Chrome on Desktop 1, it automatically changes the zoom on Desktop 2 Chrome.
      5. if I use ALT=TAB, it doesn't limit open apps to that desktop, or at least group the tabs by desktop. Instead all the windows show as if their is no such thing as multiple desktops.
      I am still looking to find any value of substance. Maybe Microsoft is laying the groundwork for future value? If not, then it seems as good as adding extra tails on a dog.

      @@commonsense4993 I agree. I have looked at Virtual desktops and thought it was interesting, but still don't get why. How does this make you more productive. How does it replace 3 screens? When I use multiple screens usually it so I have my work on one and something static that I reference on the other. If this allowed me to use a larger screen with that static desktop on one side and my work on the other, great, but if this is just another form of alt-tab, whats the point.

      Exactly. This "virtual desktop" is useless to me, in it's current form. I expected something like in Mac OS. A true virtual desktop that you can change as you see fit. This is emberassing.

    This would have been great if the the virtual desktop organization could be saved in a file, so even after a restart, if we launch the same apps, they will be positioned in the same virtual desktop with the same placement and size. PowerToys (Fancy Zones) from Microsoft proposes as well some features like Virtual Desktop, but virtual desktop configurations saving does not exist.

      @francoislepron2301 Год назад

      @bryanwalaschek9606 Now, with Powertoys, you can make any layout you want with several monitors. But, your question is "Can we save application layout association and restore it at restart or at any time if we create several save records?".
      One option is Settings/Accounts/Sign-In Options : Turn on Restart Apps. The second option is to use a thid-party applications like WindowsManager or AquaSnap ...

    Thanks a lot. I've been using this feature for a little while now since I've been working from home and only have one ultra wide screen. My main complaint is that for dragging windows from one desktop to another you always have to go into task view which adds an extra step. Would be an improvement if one could either drag any window to the edge and have it automatically go to the next desktop, or right-click on the top edge of any window and have the option to drag to the next desktop within the menu.

    This feature is great for people that are conducting multi tasks at once, to assist with focus on a single task. It does NOT remove the need for a multi-monitor setup if you are stuck to smaller (ie 24-27") monitors and still need the real estate for having multiple windows/app/programs/excel sheets open.

    I've been using virtual desktops for almost 30 years. I have used multiple screens, but have no desire to go back to that. I can't see the benefit. Why move my head when I can change the screen with a keypress? A crude version was available on previous windows using virtuawin but it was pretty clunky. I'm not fully happy with the Win10 implementation either. Still better than the previous. YMMV.

    I am using multi monitor setup and virtual desktop and its a no brainer for me. So easy to have certain screens setup for multiple purposes. I might have 7-8 different customized desktop views and three monitors is not enough. With that said I do not see this as an option for going from three over to 1 monitor. Never, but it is a nice feature I will always use.

    Virtual Desktop are handy but it will not replace double monitor setting, i'm professional developer and i work usually with 2 to 3 monitor(depending if i'm working at home or office ). and my set up is such one for code editor other is usually the browser (3 is optional basically) for searching some info :) and i got to say when you need to see botch code and design at "same time" it's much different experience than virtual desktop switching. However when you have no option and you need to work on single screen visual desktop is really good way better than minimizing and going full screen with apps. but honestly for me 2 monitor for productivity is must have (been working like this last 10 years and when i need to work on one screen it feels like torture :)

    • @HelpCloud
      @HelpCloud  4 года назад

      I agree! 2 monitors is a perfect balance. Going from the 3 down to 1, virtual desktops allowed that transition to be a bit easier. If you have the space for 2 physical monitors, that is ideal. If not, virtual desktops work great! Thanks for the feedback!

    Its a good feature, an excellent feature for people without extra monitors, but IMO the point of extra monitors is to see everything you need to at the same time, not when you need to tab between them. If its too cluttered and disorganized, that's a workflow/organization issue.

    Very useful video. I am glad Windows has adopted this feature natively. Truth to tell, I've been using virtual desktops in the unix/linux world since the early 90's. I generally have lots going on since I'm a developer. First desktop is communications and file management. Second is local editing/building. Third+ are VNC virtual desktops to separate remote machines, and notes specific to that arena. I usually don't use more than a couple of desktops, but I have used as many as eight, and switch between them regularly as I make progress on multiple projects.

      I did a similar test. I had Chrome open in one, Windows Photos in another. If I was on the desktop with Chrome, then opened Photos, it swapped to the desktop where photos was already open. So yes, it does look like it will swap to the desktop where the program is already open.

    Windows 10 virtual Desktop SUCKS because as far as I can tell, there is No Way to create a Blank desktop which to me is The Point of having a virtual desktop in the first place. Windows 10 Does NOT give you the ability to Create a New Virtual Desktop - that's Very Misleading - It gives you the ability to create a New Virtual Workspace which is a Very different thing than a New Virtual Desktop! I need to make videos that show how to create internet shortcuts on the desktop for a specific application but don't want the shortcuts to appear on my normal cluttered desktop, I need a blank desktop. Is there any way to do that?

    Wow this is an old video I just noticed this deskptop option in my windows 11 a few months back. I will be subscribing to your channel cause I don't want to miss such great features. This is a good video but I think you missed something or maybe it was not a feature that is why it is not in your video. Basically I am looking to use this because I want to login to an elearning website and watch a video there in one desktop with the audio running while want to login to the same website in another desktop and run another video there(with a different audio) and capture the video so I can watch it offlline.
    I keep rewinding the video to keep watching it so I would like an offline version cause the online video streaming has a lot of lag ttheir servers are not very fast sometimes it just hangs that is when i hit rewind it loads and then it will not play at all until I clear cooking and login again.
    So this is a big problem
    While watching I can record it as I need to go through these video atleast 10 times but I I miss stuff (as i have problem with attention and keeping focus my mind drifts and i have to rewind it back, this focus problem is why I have to watch these video atleast 10 times to learn whats in it) so I keep rewinding and that also gets recorded. I have another laptop too but I the website only allows login on only one device at the same time.
    So just to save time I was wondering while i watch these videos online can I also record other videos from the same website in a different desktop? Will the audio be the same or will the audio of this overlap into the other desktop?
    Thanks.

Use case is in presentations when you would like to do full screenshare on the 1st virtual desktop, while still being able to use 2nd virtual desktop for note taking (without sharing notes in the screenshare).
