8:59 The M1 used to be in the Station hall in the 90s and 2000s, which is where I saw it first. Its one of my favourite preserved locomotives, and one I’d love to see at York again but since they’ve given a good 50% of the collection to Shildon I don’t know if it’ll ever happen.
I can't remember how many times I've been to Locomotion. Locomotion is basically a second home to me that how much I've been to Locomotion I love the museum ❤🚂 I have so many memories of visiting Locomotion with my family. Love the content, keep the incredible work up❤️
Fun fact. When I lived in London had a couple of friends who met and married at London Guildhall School of Music. One was from Shildon, the other from Swindon.
A nice start to the new year with another one of Railway guides. It's cool to see a fantastic sort of engines. Especially on the Stephenson Rocket hinself. Great job doing this video.
I love that Aerolite has not been put in with the famous passenger locos, but with the goods stock! I’ve got a feeling someone on the Locomotion team might be a Thomas fan (thinking about Whiff- who is the same basis as Aerolite and works in the dump)
Nothing about Locomotion No.1, or Active as it was first called, is original. It was Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot who first made steam mobile in 1796 with his Fardier a Vapeur. The Stockton & Darlington Railway was not the first public railway to use steam locomotives. That honour goes to The Kilmarnock & Troon Railway in Scotland which used steam locomotives in 1819. In fact as far as I can see the Stockton & Darlington wasn't first for anything which makes me wonder why it's so famous?
This really makes me want to visit. It has emerged since I left the UK for France in 1989. I'll be in.North Wales for a road trip in August, but I need to find an excuse for a (long) detour to Shildon on the way, or the way back. Hmmm 🤔, a bit off my route but since my brother in law doesn't speak much English, with a bit of luck he might not notice 😂.
I have been waiting for you to make a video on Shildon for a while, with the reason that I was there the same day as you and saw you a couple of times making this video! I was far too shy to come and say hello in person but it was really cool to see you there 😊
@@joshuaW5621 That was still long before the Stockton and Darlington. The S&D weren't first at anything. They certainly weren't first at hauling passenger trains to a scheduled service. That would be The Canterbury & Whitstable in 1830. The S&D didn't start a passenger service hauled by steam locomotives until 1834.
Locomotion is better than the NRM at the moment. It has more engines in it, the staff are friendly, and it’s much easier to make a day out of it. The new hall they made does look a bit bland though. Also, this is the first I’m hearing of Britt Allcroft’s passing. RIP
@JacobDoesGamingStuff Deltic was more powerful than any American diesel locomotive at the time. It had a headlight fitted in the hope that US railroads would buy it.
Do I see many of the locos & rolling stock as inspirational fruit salad for many OCs Thomas fans can make that weren't featured in either books or TV (whether made by wildnorwester or anyone else)?
This took my mind off Britt Allcroft's passing for a bit. Thank you.
Same here
Bro 2025 just started 😭
@@JacobDoesGamingStuff why in the 80th anniversary tho
At has for me too

Nothing like a new Guide Rail at the start of the year!
I remember going there during the A4 meet-up. And much like the one in York, I'd certainly like to go back one day.

Did you hear Britt Alcroft passed away?
he did mention her passing in the description
Rest in Peace Britt
Noooo
Rip
There was also a Deltic gathering out the front at one point "The Magnificent Seven" I think it was called
Fun fact. When I lived in London had a couple of friends who met and married at London Guildhall School of Music. One was from Shildon, the other from Swindon.
My parent brought me here on the 28th december for my 18th and i even got a few pictures of flying scotsman!!
A nice start to the new year with another one of Railway guides.

When you mention The Great Gathering I was like "aren’t there seven A4s left?" Then I remembered Spencer isn’t real

Thank you Shildon
Can you also visit Hopetown Darlington? It is also part of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

I managed to meet your friend Owen at the Severn Valley Railways winter steam gala!
@Baron_trains Whenever there's a gala he's somewhere around! Hope you had a good time at SVR.
@@Terrier55Stepney I did!
I can’t believe public passenger railways are officially 200 years old this year.
@joshuaW5621 They're not. Railways are much older.
@@Poliss95 I mean the traditional railways as we know them.

Is there any confirmation as to if there will be a cavalcade? I want to buy tickets as soon as possible.
Well Britt Alcrafft has just passed away not too long ago

Nice new intro
