Ive sometimes wondered about these roof tents but my main concern is the weight with two people. I think for the odd night id camp in the back with the seats folded flat. Fashion some sort of window coverings with velcro or cord, would be fun in summer with the girlfriend.

one slight problem with that tent at 100kg is 25kg over the minis max roof load weight before you get in it.

I'm sure Mini checked the weight at some point

It's not supported by the roof, but the rails which are directly attached to the frame of the car. This is why it can support over 300 kg of weight.

I soooo envy you! I've seen this car in Poland, but it's on the MINI marketing fleet, not the PR fleet.

We got lucky and the marketing people gave to the press, shame it was the PHEV one and not the diesel.

Wouldn’t like to spend too many nights up there! Nice practical video though 👍.

You remind me of my wife putting 10 quid into the tank hoping I will drive it next to fill it up properly.

I have one and I’m 183cm height, I don’t think it has a small cabin at all, I feel it so spacious inside, even the rear seats with the driver seat in my position.

Was the mat comfortable? Or did you find that you need another mat or a fair amount of bedding for it to be comfortable? Is he right in saying that you can store the bedding in the tent and not have to pack and unpack every time?

I sure do, I watch the English reviews and I still don't know how he does the same review twice! We might have to review a car together soon

Any chance of you doing a full review of the diesel any time soon?

Surely the tent with two people exceed the roof load limits of the car?

  • @AdrienneLawrence1

How was it sleeping in it? Was the mat comfortable? Did you need another mat and lots of bedding to make it cozy? Did the roof tent seem worth the $3k+ price?

Leave that crap box on the beach! If you want a tiny sleeping space, buy an estate and keep a double blowup materess in the boot, drop the seats and inflate in place. Done it a few times in a laguna in the mid 00s, in the alps and across fance and Spain.
We had a foldable bbq and a case of beer, always a good night's in the disar of roads or in the small toilet /picnic areas. All with about 60mpg on the motorway, and 50mog average, and a 75 litre tank. It would drive forever at 70mph on the motorway.

I sold my 2011 Countryman to buy a classic mini, now my only car. I'd ditch that roof top box. Can't see the point of it. Must be quite a chore to place on/remove from the roof? Not much actual space inside. Must also be quite pricey and where do you store it when off the car? Just take a fraction of the money it cost and buy a really good quality tent. They are very easy to setup these days, plenty of space for four or five adults plus gear. Very compact to store.

So the Italians never have windy days. What about Irish weather ie rain! Why did they choose a phev? Who has chargers in a campsite?

If my math is correct, 1L of gas in the US costs €.67.
    What do you pay?

      ABOUT 1.50 A LITRE.

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  6 лет назад +1

Your gallon is different than ours but a litre is the same. It's around 1.50 euro a litre here so convert that to dollars.

    That'll be 380 miles then!
The problem with the Contryman, is that it's an un-aerodynamic box, that isn't a mini on the outside but is on the inside....... and heavy too!
Also, most PHEV'S have smaller fuel tanks, so we shouldn't use that as a measure and trust the km/l instead. 7+ km/l is rubbish! My Golf mk5 tdi 1.9, will still do at least 800 km per tank. It has a 55 litre tank but won't let me use 5 litres (it's into the reserve at 45 litres, then says it's empty after 50 litres - but still has 5 litres+/- anyway!). Meaning 16 km/l.
