  • Lighter then a utility with the versatility of all wheel drive, the 2009 Polaris Scrambler 500 has remained mainly unchanged since 1997 but still has all the performance needed for year round fun out on the trail.

    This is a fun ride. I bought one a few years back to add to my collection. I have a brute force, a honda 450 and a KFX 700. This is by far my favorite ride. NOTE: You will not win drag races with this bike. ON a sand dune you might hit 65 if your lucky. However, if want to ride tight trails and jump the bumps it's a blast. The shock travel is sweet. For PURE speed buy a sport rocket, but for overall fun I would suggest the scrammie.

    I hope some of yall are still alive after these comments which are 11 yrs old. My question is how much power can be had out of the 2 stroke vs 4 stroke engines on these similar models?

    If you want four wheel drive you will have to go up to at least a 350. All of the manufacturers make 4x4s in this displacement range.

  • @roksys69

    @lbgarg2686 well it realy depends on what you want it for. the scrambler is more racing influenced and the gade is more trail/mud/ rock influenced. if i had a choice i would get the gade, only because like mud. but i own a scrambler and i love it for racing. awd pulls through corners like nothing you would ever get on a 2wd sport quad. the gade also sits higher with a higher center of gravity so its more tippy but better clearence

  • @JesseLJohnson

    I had a red 01 new. Probably my favorite ATV I ever owned. Didn't have it all that long though and sold it. Had probably 5 ATVs at the time and was regularly buying and selling them. My dad is a car dealer and we have for years bought at insurance auctions late model cars with damage to fix in our body shop and sell. Well there was always ATVs coming through too. Most were stolen and recovered. I had a Blaster, Warrior, Foreman, and I think I had that other Polaris then too think it was called a Trail Boss didn't like that turd at all. All of them were no more then 2 years old besides the Blaster that was an 89. I have been thinking about getting one of the new Scramblers. Wish there were more sport 4x4 out there basically just the Scrambler and Renegade. I guess there is the Kymco Maxxer and the Artic Cat which is just a Kymco and they are both only 450s, if they could offer that same 450 and maybe bump it up to 750 or so to have at least some other competition. There are other sporty variations of more utility models like the Grizzly and Sportsman. Yamaha discontinued the Wolverine and now the name is on a SxS. Maybe they could rename it and come out with a better machine. Seems like one of the hottest categories would think there would be a bit more competition. I don't think I have ever seen the Artic Cat/Kymco in person seen them in magazines and online. Never seen one in the dealers. Guess so much attention goes to SxS. I do have a Can Am Commander 1000 XT, still have that old Warrior too but I haven't actually rode it in probably 12 years.

    I have a 1998 Scrambler 400 4x4 two stroke that is insanely fast and will do 70MPH before you can think straight. It is a beast. I also have a 2001 Scrambler 500 2x4 that is very fun to ride. I would always prefer 4x4 but it hasn't seen a hill it cannot climb. The scramblers are the most fun of any ATV on the market. My 2001 Arctic Cat 300 4x4 will go anywhere and do anything I need. Only about 50MPH top out but who goes that fast trail riding? The Arctic Cat is manual with 15 speeds. Will go anywhere and do anything. My hunting and fishing ride. Nothing like riding a scrammy though.

      We think they should bring this mahcine back with some new styling, suspension and clutching. Polaris could use a more affordable sport 4x4.

    anyone know the topspeed of a scrambler??

  • @wrsawy1
    @wrsawy1 11 лет назад +1

    Do people actually listen to the video? The ride doesn't have a low gear, it's an all wheel drive system. The bike is slow, it doesn't do 70. (not it's design). Its a four stroke, one cylinder. It's very very heavy. It's a fun ride, tops out at maybe 62. But if you want to race, go really fast and shift a half a million times, this is not your ride. Easy to work on. Nice in the dunes or wooded trails. Stay away from deep water!!!

  • @Spywell
    @Spywell 14 лет назад +1

    @Drfat4 Scrammys are fast, dont you think around 60mph is fast? If you dont think it's fast you havn't been riding long enough, you will never hit a straight away that will let you do 60mph. Besides, scramblers will smoke a 300ex and a 400ex easily your pops scrambler must be broke if you can beat him on a 300ex. My 400 2T will take a 400ex any day.

  • @byronkentgraham
    @byronkentgraham 13 лет назад

    @andyman14134 not really The raptor comes in a 700 and Renegade comes in 800 hell even Kawasaki had their KFX 700. 500 is not a big quad and hasn't been for a while now

  • @JohnnyRebKy
    @JohnnyRebKy 4 года назад

    I feel more stable and confident on my Scrambler 400 than I do these new giant machines. Using your body weight or “ body English” is virtually useless on a big ole sportsman ect ect. The scrambler is the perfect compromise between sport and 4x4 utility quads. I wish I had bought mine Years ago! Also these big heavy new machines are tore all to hell if you roll one backwards down a hill. Total loss. One thing I liked about sport quads is when they roll or something it bends the handlebars and that’s about it. These old scramblers should be about the same with minimal damage.
