Did Prehistoric Animals Get High? | Evolution of Weed (Cannabis)

  • Weed. It’s a drug. It’s everywhere. It’s on every gas station corner assuming your state isn’t frozen in the past. It’s socially acceptable - one might even say it’s a budding industry that’s high on success. However, what do we really know about it? The plant itself, I mean. How old are these organisms? Have they always been psychoactive? What have they seen to get to the point where our species could cultivate them into the super-THC-rich GMOs we have with us today? Happy 420, everyone; I figured it would be a great time to delve into a topic that's as unique as it is intriguing - the evolution, or paleontology, of weed.

      i mean the advisor to nixon for domestic affairs said "We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news." so i dont think the classifications mean all too much about the drugs themselves lol @@emoryogglethorp8180

    I am an experienced weed grower and have grown in many places and I have found that many animals or insects will eat your plants. They love Marijuana. Deers, rabbits, dogs, cats, mice, and rats plus anything that eats grass. Insects love to eat plants too. It was a different battle in different places, but I think animals like weed just as much as humans. We have more cannabinoid receptors in our bodies than any other receptors. It should have been legal years ago. The drug problem wouldn't have been as horrible if they just let us smoke weed. Alcohol is legal and it kills. Smoke some weed and everyone gets something to eat. I've done 3 years of my life behind bars because of it. Didn't make me stop. All it did was take 3 years of my life away.

Doubtfull that current C.Septiva is older then 2-3 million. This species evolved alongside hominids. Why would plant invest so much energy in evolving ability to manufacture THC cannabinoid. The chemical has to have multiple uses for the plant. #1 is anti-insect. #2 is against animals. #3 is making itself usefull to hominids so they would protect the plant and spread it. Same as why fruits manufacture Vitamin C. Hominids need Vitamic C and cannot manufacture it themselves. So they must consume fruits and vegetables.

    Uh...thanks. You shouldn't expect any type of record of animals eating herb. As its says in Genesis; "God gave unto man all the green seed bearing plants that grow over the Earth." You see, the Bible says that God gave marijuana to man, not to horses or elephants, but to man. However, as it is 420 your confusion is understandable. But mans record of ingesting psychedelic plants goes back a minimum of 250,000 years. Our ancestors used a root that was both a narcotic and a psychedelic!
    Thats why it is known as the Stoned Age. Happy 421...um......uh.....😜

    The style of flower that cannabis has is ancient, from before the time that plants evolved flowers with colorful pedals and the reproductive parts in the middle. Being pollenated by the wind instead of depending on insects is another sign that it's a very old plant.
    I'm sure the cannabis we have now is different from the original form because we have selectively bred it for our uses. It would be really cool to see the original form.

      The Ruderalis variety is probably the closest to the original plant.

    • @comfortablynumb9342
      @comfortablynumb9342 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@tomcollins5112 I suppose that depends on where it evolved. If the original plants were from the far north you might be right. And actually equatorial strains don't depend on the days getting short to start flowering. They just get old enough and flower in the outdoors, sort of like auto flower plants but they live longer.

      Modern flowers were around since the Late Cretaceous, but cannabis evolved during the Oligicene epoch.

      @comfortablynumb9342 some people consider 500 years ago old, or even 59 years ago. Very old is subjective. Fuck what ya heard, fossils don't lie.

    I could see depending on how smart theropods were that they could figure out certain plants that get herbivores high and use that to their advantage. A sluggish Triceratops would be a lot better than a regular Triceratops lol
