      If she falls asleep on the floor, should we just let her go, or should we carrier her to the crate and risks rousing her?

    How do I puppy proof wall outlets?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  2 месяца назад

      It's best to use baby gates to block off access to that area.

    • @grandeb143
      @grandeb143 2 месяца назад

      @@HowToTrainADreamDog that makes absolutely no sense at all. Gates are useful in doorways NOT blocking a simple wall outlet.

    Thank you! Would the wake window be different for a 14 or 15 week old new pup?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  4 месяца назад +1

      The wake window is slightly longer as the puppy gets older. At that age it's still between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. Your puppy's behavior should be a good guide as to when it's time to start the cool down and another nap.

    Hi Michele - can you tell me what you recommend on the floor under the puppy pen (as seen in the pic around the 8:04 mark of the video)? We plan to set up a puppy pen and have hardwoods, so I'm looking for a waterproof flooring option I can put down to protect the floor but can be easily cleaned. Thanks!

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  7 месяцев назад

      There are a few options that you might like including the chair mat like you'd have in an office, a high chair rubber / waterproof mat or a scrap piece of linoleum.

  • @FlickrAya88
    @FlickrAya88 4 месяца назад +1

    Hi Michelle, Great info!! It would be helpful to know when you say “young puppy” what the age would be. For instance, my puppy is coming within the next two weeks and she is already 13 weeks old now.
    When can she go in a walk?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  4 месяца назад +1

      It's not about the age but more about when the puppy is ready and feeling comfortable in that environment. She'll need a few weeks to transition into your home and then you can start the positive socialization training to teach her to feel more confident in new environments. You start this training at home and as she is comfortable you slowly add distractions and new locations. This video can give you a few more tips! ruclips.net/video/3tblzx2kP24/видео.html

    Only had my pup for 3 days and he has separation anxiety really bad, he’s hates the crate so I tried the playpen and he still cries for hours. Talking about no sleep OMG !!! I am guilty for rewarding the bad behavior because I just wanted some sleep but tonight he’s going in his crate and I’m gonna let him cry, this has to STOP

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  25 дней назад +1

      We don't recommend the cry it out method, this can make his separation distress worse. He'll need slow and positive association with the crate. You can use fun training games to help him get there. This video is a good place to start:

    What do you do when your puppy is not interested in treats?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  6 месяцев назад

      This is common when your puppy first comes home. You can send the message that you like what he did with praise or petting or play until his appetite picks up.

    I have a 15 week old Cavapoochon puppy who LOVES to run, romp and race about when out on walks with my parents and our other dog, but when I (mommy) walk with her or have her on a solo early morning walk she either cries, tries to jump on my legs to be picked up or refuses to walk at all any advice?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  9 месяцев назад

      Many factors can contribute to a dog walking poorly on leash: they have pent up energy, they are overstimulated, there are too many distractions, they haven't been reinforced correctly, or maybe the positive reinforcement you are using is not of a high enough value. It’s common to have to pull back on your training and dial down the distractions when you first start working on leash skills. A loose-leash neighborhood walk is actually made up of multiple skills all paired together.
      We start with foundation leash skills found in module 1 in the 30 Days to Puppy Perfection course. We work with low-level distractions when we first start and gradually add in distractions as training sessions progress. For this reason, several other skills need to be done first before a loose-leash walk can be considered. Check out this video all about pulling and leash skills. You will find all of the “how to” games for loose leash walking in the online course!
