Follow these steps to keep your MikroTik router up to date. This is a basic instruction video for people just starting to know the powerful RouterOS software.
Could you advice me. If I have several mikrotik connected to the main mikrotik(CAP) should I have one dhcp server on the main mikrotik(cap) or each mikrotik should have its own dhcp-server? It’s a home network. I guess it’s quite obvious with dhcp-client but I couldn’t find anything on server.
after upgrading routeros 7.3.1 in the wireless menu in the advanced section click adaptive noise if you select the client mode menu it returns to none and also in the tx power section. (Rb962iuGs)
any sugestions on how to automate the upgrading of firmware on connected CAPs, that are of different architecture? i kind of agree, that is not that big deal to go online, download required firmware file, upload it to router, and then press button "upgrade" in capsman, but c'mon, that could be automated years ago, at least on winbox side, but if not, maybe there are some scripts out there, that would do that part? with several routers, and several capsmans that routine task becomes... ummmm... anoying.
Hi Mikrotik team, When I use the packages window to update to V7 it says "calculating download" but nothing happens. Same process does work updating to a newer version of V6. The only additional packages I have are: NTP, Multicast and IOT.
Thanks for the continued software support! We've made a similar video on RouterOS upgrade (ruclips.net/video/gjU0YYp0s-Y/видео.html) and will indeed upgrade our tutorial by adding the article on RouterOS v7. On a similar note, upgrading firmware along with the main software is essential as it'll ensure flawless hardware operation. Eager for more!

What about swOS? If you don't use DHCP, there is no possibility do upgrade swOS because you can't define a default GW and DNS Server. SWOS is absolutely suitable for most businesses who just want a switch to switch the network with 4 or 5 VLANs and routing is done elsewhere or on a Mikrotik Router (this with Router OS of course).
You can define static and DNS, you could also just set it to DHCP and then have your router assign the IP Address. I use both a mix of SwichOS and RouterOS on different vlans and it all works just fine. I do think swOS has issues with it comes to upgrading, stupid things fail a lot and I have to go to the server room to fix them. I never have that issue in RouterOS though.
This is wonderful, but could you tell me how to update the flat hAP lite 16Mb r3, because this brick is not over the network, it can not be updated in a standard way !!!
if something bad happens to a device and it can't be updated or reached in normal ways, I suggest doing a Netinstall. We have a video about that too: ruclips.net/video/gzlLbIf3Dbk/видео.html

Winbox always just kicks me to the web settings page. And that doesn't check for updates. It looks like there are two different versions of the RB260GSP, but I can't find the product code on the device, so I don't know which I have.
RB260GSP runs a different software. It's a switch, and does not have RouterOS inside. So the video does not apply to that product. Switches are very basic devices, just plug your cables and use. For advanced software with routing, firewall, bandwidth shaping etc you need a Router, not a Switch.
@@mikrotik Yeah. I get that, but there were two different entries for GSP on the download page. I figured it out. I tried to upgrade with the "new" version the the web interface told me the file was wrong. Then I tried the firmware file for the old model and it worked.

Can we install the software on our own box? Like an old Intel pc?
Is user manager database also updated? If not how to upate please.
Is v7 much slower than v6 on older, cheapest home routers like hAP ac lite? Is it worth to upgrade from v6 to v7 on that type of devices?
I wouldn’t suggest upgrading the hAP Lite models, but they will work. All the new exciting things in v7 are more for a bit faster models

What about the channel "upgrade" ? When was is introduced? Is there only to transition from os version 6 to 7?
Yes only for v6 to v7

What about the firmware update under System/RouterBOARD? Don't we have to do that too?
it can be enabled to happen automatically so you don't have to worry about it.
system/routerboard/settings> print
auto-upgrade: yes
Not 100% automatically though, you still need to reboot again after Software upgrade... Kinda important thing to skip over
