always happy to see a new video up! been following on your other feeds like the paint hope the mechanic issues are worked out and you are back on the road asap! winter swells all over place! I love seeing this i lived in my short bus for a year traveling around the states. a buddy of mine has a 71 we travel around the states surfing snowboarding and whitewater kayaking/rafting in it. so i guess what im trying to say is YOU DOING IT RIGHT BRO! just be more stubborn then the vw and life, you wont lose!
Hola! I writte from, Mallorca, Spain, I watching all the videos of your travel, thats amazing. Did you finished your road trip? I want to do one, but in Europe. Enjoy it!
I watched your adventure several yrs ago prior to my Central and South American adventure 2015. It's 2019 now and I have lived full time in Guatemala since late 2017.
I just stumbled across your series. I have watched one episode so far and I was very impressed with the production quality. Looking forward to watching more.
Great videos. You two are living the experience of a lifetime that most people have always dreamed of. My dream is to buy a sailboat some day and travel the world.
Hey mate, what size engine is in that bus? Also did you rebuilt this bus/engine before starting the trip? Sorry I'm amazed this VW bus travels that far without any problems? Thanks. From visalia California. Near sequoia giant trees
I just started watching. Have you got the van across to the states? Just wanting to know if it is difficult. I want to drive from Argentina to Vancouver Island(home).
is the whole trip finished and your just realeasing it every week or is this still happening and you edit and upload it every week? if so how do you get internet in the middle of nowhere?
No way man this tip is far from over. We are filming, editing and sharing the adventure right from the Kombi. It takes a few weeks to get all the footage together so we are always behind a month or so. The biggest challenges are finding somewhere quite enough to record narration (we live outside after all) and finding somewhere we can upload the videos. Sometimes we upload the videos 30+ times trying for a stable enough connection to get the large files through. I guess that is why other people don't record their trips like this. It's a challenge for sure, but it's worth it!
nevermind, found my own answer watching another of your videos. By the way, they dont ask you for paperwork on your dog when crossing borders? I know maybe here in the states they do. Maybe only if you are flying.
Ok the Kombi has some good points, but the engine isn't very accessible and sleeping is cramped. Travelling in a stretch Ford Econoline is more comfortable since it's over 6 feet wide, which means the bed fits in transversally. However, another time I'd go with whatever make/model the local people mostly use and that's typically Nissan or Toyota. I drove Yukon to San Diego in the Ford, bus-ed Cancun to Guatemala, Belize to Chiapas Mexico, Distrito Federal to S. Miguel Allende, then drove Mexico to BC via Montreal. Took photos, but video would have been a lot better as your pieces demonstrate. Near Antigua there are trees full of avocados and a macadamia nut farm. They let ferocious dogs loose there at night to dissuade thieves.
Stealth man, stealth. I used to park up in the middle of major cities, such as Frisco, L.A., Vancouver and have no hassle. Not only that, on the road the you sit higher than in a VW, so you see further ahead. I've had both Ford and VW and I know what I would want another time. The "charm or spirit" is romantic hype, I've got over that, but each to his own. Peace.
Yes, and a Mercedes Sprinter (or similar) would be *even* better. You can always get bigger and/or better, but it also costs more and has zero charm value as some of the older VWs, Land Rover Defenders etc. do. On top of that bigger, more expensive and newer vehicles also come with their own downsides of not fitting in normal parking spaces, using way more fuel, being harder to repair and so on. In a lot of countries you simply won't find mechanics able to fix the newer cars or even get parts for them. You'll have to order everything from the USA, Europe etc. which is hardly practical when you're in the middle of Buttfuck Nowhere in a 3rd world country.
If you want cheap, easy, practical then " . . . _another time I'd go with whatever make/model the local people mostly use and that's typically Nissan or Toyota._"
I can not seem to get enough of these videos. The good the bad and ALL the beautiful !! I need more !!

I think the charm, or spirit of the kombi is what makes this journey more special than just any old ford Ecoline

That moment that the video adives you not to watch it but you don't want to miss a thing.
