I am a head coach for minor hockey and have been for years. My son is a goalie. I have always taken myself out of the selection process for goalies. I always use a goalie coach to scout and rank my players in tryouts. On that note I have always used multiple evaluators for all my tryouts. As a coach you're there to build the best team. Take in what evaluators see and build your best team. You should never be a coach to make friends, you have to expect you will lose friendships but the job of a coach is to build players and build a team.

Im a parent coach for my son's house league, I only do it because no one else will. There are Zero outside volunteers in our association. Without parent coaches, we wouldn't be able to run the program.

Like VOG goalie, you are awesome!!! Sad people don't realize.
As for sharp levels, 11/16 is super hard to find.
Sometimes sales on at pro hockey life.

Tier 1 has a lot of those dad coaches at younger ages just so their non athletic kid can play at that level or ya have parents that have a lot of money and make donations to the hockey organization that have the same kinda kid

I had made a AA team. Got 2 back up games and only had 1 goal at each game and had 20 shots and 25 shots in the games and still got cut. I made sure to be at my best anytime I stepped on the ice and made sure to be as respectful as I can. The goalie that did make the team had 1 game and started and let 6 goals in and didn't get cut. But he made the team last year. The second goalie got cut from AAA and didn't play a game and made the team. Can someone explain to me how this works, because this my second time this has happened.

Could be many factors, honestly take it as a blessing and keep working your craft, like Wapps says, worry about the things you can control and make the best of that. I was cut from the A-team and sent to the B-team back in my Midget playing days when Daniel Dube played in my organization. She was the more technical goalie and her and the coach were in relations. The backup laughed at me for getting cut. At the halfway point of the season we ran into each other. I had the last laugh tho.....I had played every game for my team and he had played 2 periods in relief. If getting cut ends up giving you more playing time thats a win.

Last year nhl all star assistant coach. There just to help their kid. Tons of other parent coaches way better. Kid was fine, and was a better player on team. But all the other kids didn't get as much development.
    How are evals so bad?
The year is so obvious. Stats and Ws speak volumes.
Outside evals, great idea. My kid shot up last year to tier 1 when they did. This ye, see below.
Back to elite this year, coaches have classes, I don't pay 1k/month on "training". He doesn't make team. Surprise.
He's crushing the year. Their goalies suck.
Their year bad, our year, great. Dodged a bullet, by being in lower tier.
But, stupid W, and u15 draft. Why bother?

Our association is hurting for volunteers, I put my hand in to be an on ice helper and quickly have become an assistant coach. The head coach is great and has been a great mentor so far. His son plays on this U9 c team and there has been no bias. My daughter plays on the team as well and I always weigh every decision possible with fairness in mind. I really only volunteered to make 100% sure shes safe from predators. The process has been so much more fulfilling than I ever expected and seeing these kids progress so far has been amazing. Whats crazy is even at this level of hockey there are parent politics already applying pressure. U9 C hockey. A good coach like you say Wapps makes all the difference. Loving the content so far guys. Thank you for all your insight.
