I just wanted to say how awesome it is that a Ph.D., who is obviously light years ahead of me in intelligence takes the time to discuss all things from the geekdom for my education and entertainment.

BTW @erikjs , many Ph.D.s especially in the sciences like me are geeks and sci-fi fans.

Well I’m a computer programmer and me and my colleagues are also geeks, like yourself. But I don’t have anything close to a Ph.D. I always have a lot of respect for anyone who dedicates themselves to the pursuit of knowledge.

I had a huge crush on Kirstie growing up and her role as Saavik is by far my favorite. She was so gorgeous--far sexier than Robin Curtis. Basically, the reason she wasn't in STIII is because her and her agent tried to overplay their hand holding out for more money. Paramount didn't want to pay it so they went and got RC.

I haven't seen "The Wrath of Kahn" since I was much younger, but I remember really liking Kirstie Alley's Saavik. Any sensuality was lost on me at that age, but I liked her femininity, subtleties and nuances. Kirstie was so good, she made the role seem easy to play, though I'm sure it wasn't. I was very disappointed when they recast Saavik. (No more Ricardo Montalban, and no Kirstie Alley either?) Robin Curtis was/is a good actress, but her version of Saavik "crashed the gears" too hard. It didn't even seem like the same character. When I remember Saavik, I only remember Kirstie Alley's version.

I know you probably get this all the time, but I'm gonna say it. My God you look just like Levar Burton!!!

Both Saavik and T'Pol have green eyes. Maybe coincidence, but if "Enterprise" had been continued for 3 more seasons, Manny Coto wanted Cdr.T'Pol to discover that her father was a Romulan. What if he had missed her mother T'Les in order to take her-or just her DNA-to start a colony to breed Romulan/Vulcan children before abandoning it before Spock and his father found her. What if they were related somehow? Maybe not, but it was an idea for a story he might've had. Jolene Blalock-T'Pol-even played on an episode of Kirstie's "Veronica's Closet". Wish I could've met Kirstie and that Jolene would come out of retirement to play T'Pol in a movie if she won't be in a series now. Robin did her best, but if her chr. was wooden, it was because Leonard told her to play Saavik as 100% Vulcan, not 1/2 Romulan as Kirstie had done so. If I envision Saavik as tossing a chair at a wall, then it would be Kirstie's Saavik. Robin's Saavik would most likely stay like Cdr.T'Pol in her first 2 seasons all the way to the end. Both T'Pol and Saavik teased their bed mates-Trip Tucker and David Marcus-after their get together. Is it possible that Saavik read T'Pol's "private" journal? It's more likely Scotty read Trip's "dry" journal while confined to qtrs. after fighting with the Klingons. After all, they're both engineers.

Thank you for stopping by. So Leonard told her to play Saavik that way? Interesting. Live long and prosper 🖖
