    Gotta say youve really helped me learn ebay a lot better. I started exactly the way you were describing I would list as fast as possible go on to the next and then try to finish as fast as possible, not worrying about any specifics or if its the exact style or not. Racked up 560 listings with 20% of them having a good sell through and all of them being way too generic. Listing fees per month were actually hurting me a lot and thanks to you im now down to 270 listings (still have to end probably about 220 of those) and started selling items that aren't moving at the flea market. Ill take low profits / my money back in exchange for an expensive and time consuming lesson.

    I would push back a bit on “if listing takes longer than photographs, you don’t know what you’re doing.” Maybe that’s true in a very high volume model, but I don’t think you can generalize that for all eBay sellers. Someone who is listing a $500 AV receiver or a boat or something high value should probably spend more than 1 minute on their listing. I think it depends on your item and business model.

    • @klwarhouse
      @klwarhouse Год назад +3

      Agreed. On the flip side, I spend 10 seconds on photos. In between the HTML codes I have saved, draft listings, etc. I spend less than 20 secs on a listing. yay! 😂😂

      I sell a lot of used clothing, so it takes me a long time to get pics of every angle and all the tags and any stains or tears or things like that. It gets pretty tedious after a while. But I can get through taking pics of other items more quickly.

    Echoing what Chris said about sourcing not being a problem. I’m a part time reseller who does most of my photography on Friday nights and sourcing Saturday morning. Just 4 hours in one morning gets me more than enough inventory for the week. I only list 2-3 per day though but I definitely think if I spent another 4 hours during the week sourcing I could double what I pick up. Inventory is not the issue for me; finding the time to process and list it before I buy more the next Saturday is.

    I'm just over 3 years in and 2 years full-time after quitting my 16 year career. I honestly started doing this for fun money because my Wife makes enough money to pay the bills plus some and I cashed in my 401k and paid 90% of our debt off. However within the last 2 years I've realized I want more out of this and went from listing 3-5 items per day to however many I could get done in a certain time. Some days it's 10, some 15 and some 20+. I also changed my payouts to once per week to make it feel like a real job. Sourcing is not an issue and I think it's because I live right outside the 3rd biggest Military base and we have a University with 30k students every semester. I source my Salvation and 2 Goodwills as well as driving 20 minutes away to another Salvation and Goodwill along with a Mom and Pop Thrift Store. Last Thursday I sourced over 50 items within about 3 hours. Counting the weekend that was 5 days ago and I'm ready to source again. I'm only 40 items shy of a 1,000 item store so hopefully I get there this week. Love the "transparent" content.

      @GreekPerspective LOL pretty sure it'll be fine. Everytime I go sourcing rather it be here in my hometown or another city I can spot the resellers. And with items being put out every hour or so you can find stuff anytime and anywhere. P.S........I just looked and it's not the 3rd biggest anymore, it's the 2nd biggest.

    • @greekperspective2076
      @greekperspective2076 Год назад

      @@theresellinghusband even better I’m sure it will be easier to find now. Look you know everything keep on commenting your trade secrets away then in a few years you’ll be like everyone else complaining. I’ve been doing sales on eBay since 2012 I’ve seen this type of behavior kill peoples businesses fast. I learned my lesson in 2012 when I first started I had a website I was sourcing very valuable vans from no one knew about this site I opened my mouth once and the whole website was wiped out of its inventory in one month. Because I thought someone that was buying from me was not a reseller and thought I was being a nice guy and let them know about the site. I’ve never been able to buy the same stuff again at such a low price. I had to change my business model and everything. Now I don’t say anything. And anyone that’s giving away trade secrets online is pivoting their business model to make money from sponsors and social media. And that’s the only reason why. They are seling out your prosperity so they can become a huge influencer making money on content instead.

    Years ago a friend sold very well selling vintage items at ridiculous prices but a best offer option . His thing was buying low and taking best offers that were still way over what he paid, the customer felt they were getting a steal.. He was also extremely knowledgeable on vintage items and key listing description words. He did well. However everyone seemed to follow his lead, now he manages an online estate auction site. So the high price/best offer was a working strategy on vintage/antique items years ago.

    Time Away is a lot easier now. Automatically changes the shipping handling time to when you return. I sell when I’m on vacation and even though there is a “time away” custom message, I usually let the buyers know that I will ship when I get back in a message. Never had a cancellation because of that.

    You are a survivor and an innovator.. not everyone has that drive! As with me I’ve was born into retail and learned the biz from my parents shops and markets in UK So to me reselling is not hard and I feel my motivation is top rated seller and getting sales out quick! Problem eBay moves the playing field without telling us! We are manipulated by the system! Big biz will make $1 on each item to dominate .. most resellers are not into cut throat selling.. I have to enjoy my job! But not everyone has the discipline to sell.. can’t be bothered! Basically eBay it’s sneakers! Car parts, collectibles card etc ! That’s it.. promoted is manipulating the eBay system! Mercari is a cheaper site ! Posh has been ruined by live auctions that start at $5 no one now wants to pay higher prices! Facebook has ruined their site, it’s broken! You do great on whatnot .. perfect for you👍 it’s ever evolving we need to change with it!

    very true on the higher quality pics and titles etc. lately i keep seeing sellers make vids about their "clickthrus going down 90%" etc. etc. but they seem to have such a hard niche anyway! ive been ebaying for 20 years and at this point, unless its a rare thing, i buy an item if my profit margin is under 1K%, and thats really a minimum now. ...ohhh and i love that you mentioned the AB as a color!
    im holding a vendome concept piece ive worn for years and decided to sell, and only found one other but still entirely diffrent in appearance yadayada and it was a new seller who didnt know what AB was. they were at auction with less than 2 days left and DUH i sent them a note because if they sold low out of ignorance then my piece could seem less in value to buyers who buy on emotion. in that case i seriously suggest raising the price, not lowering!

    Filling out specifics, I"ll enter "n/a" if that's appropriate, since most of the questions in some of these template/categories are geared towards other specific products within the same category. Selling action figures? Why does eBay ask with Transformers faction the toy belongs to, when that's only relevant to Transformers? But I"m also entering more info that practically any other seller in the categories I sell within. I'm not a high volume seller, I'm selling personal belongings. How much influence can placement play when someone has to search of specific niche products I'm selling?

    Hi Chris! Great Q&A As always! I just wanted to comment on the The Real Real comments/questions. To some degree I do think that the Mannequin photos on white are maybe small part of the problem, but it's not WHAT they are doing, but rather what they are not doing that is the issue. They have bigger issues which I think are exacerbated by the fact that they shoot on a mannequin on a white background-#1 the clothing listings only have 2 or 3 photos, never more, and those photos never include any of the flaws. They only shoot the full front, back and sometimes the side and never any close-ups or details. #2 they do a terrible job of describing flaws (basically they don't). I have purchased from them several times and I have had to return 70-80% of what I have bought because of undisclosed flaws-major ones and then their customer service is mediocre at best. It takes forever to get anything resolved. I invite you try purchasing from them and then you'll probably have a better idea of why their return rate is so high.

But if you hire someone to live auction your paying a full time salary to someone to sell your goods. It’s dumb. Then if they become popular then they become a brand and you now have to pay crazy money to retain your live auctioneer. Then a larger company might pay more and steal your auctioneer. It’s a fad and it’s going to die out soon. Just doesn’t make sense. you would list auctions and and move on with life. Now you have to build a social media following you have to have a RUclips channel to direct sales to your account now. It’s all extra work for the same buck now and your 12 hour day is now a 18 hour day.

    "...if you can't list faster than you photograph - bar none, then you're not an expert in your niche"? Such an ignorant and arrogant statement. As a one man show selling on ebay for 25 years, my typical profit margin is $300-500 per item and I usually spend about two hours photographing, researching, crafting a comprehensive description and listing - and perhaps another 15-20 minutes packing. The Henry Ford philosophy is by no means a "one size fits all " method. Stop misleading people that your way is the only way. It is very specific to mass market, low dollar, wholesale-ish products only. Seems like every other week, you post something that's akin to , "I was all wrong". Certainly there is some value in what you "teach" and I ALWAYS try to keep my finger on the pulse, but you are no prophet and your knowledge is general at best. Been occasionally watching for years. Get over yourself, dude. There are a hundred possible ebay business models/methods and your's is far from unique - you're just willing to put yourself in the public eye...

      If you're spending two hours to photograph and list one item, you're mentally ill.
