Hey, Shadowcat! You stated you wouldn't have forgiven Loki for cutting off your hand and had no reaction when Loki made Thor's hand reappear by dispelling the illusion of amputation. Did you not realize that the hand chop was part of the plan they concocted off-screen to deceive Malekith into trusting Loki? The betrayal was an act. Thor signaled Loki to dispel an illusion, not regrow his hand! Most reactors are floored when they realize Loki never switched sides!

In Avengers it's explained how Thor got to Earth. When Thor takes Loki from the jet and they have their conversation, Loki says "how much dark magic did the Allfather [Odin] have to conjure to get you here?" Its often overlooked since it's a sorta blink and you'll miss it. Its referenced once again in a later movie in a more obvious way, but I'm not gonna spoil it.

So... fun thing about this movie. They had originally written it to where Loki would actually die, but when they screened it for test audiences, just like you... none of them believed that he was actually dead. So they added the scenes to show that he was alive, and the MCU is all the better for it. You are going to enjoy the next time that you see Loki, though. I am 100% certain of that.

Odin's father was Bor so he would be Odin Borson. Loki is technically the son of Laufey of jotunheim, so he is Loki Laufeyson. I don't think Jane was targeted on purpose. Just that she was near the opening that lead to the Aether chamber under Asgard. On the movie reaction side. I've read the comics and this is my favourite movie for Thor. It's not to the standard of the other MCU movies but it's closer to the comics type of Thor story.... still a ways off but closer. The movie was heavily altered by Marvel Disney and the director had a director's cut but he was over ruled.

Thor in the first movie broke the bridge in The avengers film Odin or Heimdall used dark magic to seen Thor to earth but it was a one-way trip thats why he had to get the tesseract to go back to Asgard. After that they use the tesseract to fix the rainbow bridge because Odin use the tesseract to build the rainbow bridge in the first place but the rainbow bridge is limited to being able to send people to realms or galaxy in which Odin control's the tesseract can send you anywhere that's why he hid it on Earth to not tempt his people from traveling to another galaxy and taking over with better biology and advanced weapons.

Odin Borson. (Son of Bor). By the way, Icelanders still use patronymics (father-names) in this way instead of having family names. You might find it interesting that Iceland's Prime Minister is Katrín Jakobsdóttir (Jakob's Daughter).

Hey, Shadowcat! This is my favorite Thor movie despite it not being well-regarded. It is also the final film to embrace the character's medieval fantasy roots. Even though Hemsworth's Thor is mined for some sensational comedy in future entries, I always preferred the pseudo-Shakespearean version from the first two films as that was more faithful to his comic book depiction. "The Dark World" feels both Tolkienian and space operatic with the vaulted palaces, stentorian declarations and eldritch sorcery of the former as well as the cloaked vessels, energy weapons and unstable wormholes of the latter. The plot flips the fish-out-of-water scenario of the first film by having Natalie Portman's Jane Foster travel to Asgard but then quickly escalates into having to avert a universal holocaust and to contend with a grievous personal loss. Thor is opposed by two classic villains from the comics: Kurse and the Dark Elf King Malekith.
It is profoundly appropriate for Alan Taylor to have helmed this installment as he is a veteran director of "Game of Thrones", a show known for castle sieges, royal intrigue and savage warfare! The ancient war with Svartalfheim led by Bor, Thor's grandfather, in the prologue is gloriously brutal while the invasion of and escape from Asgard are thrilling sequences! The chaotic world-hopping at the end is delightfully imaginative especially as Mjolnir tries to keep track of its master. I especially like how Asgardian tech such as the design of their skiffs provided the template for the Norse longboat when humans came into contact with these aliens. The most remarkable technology belongs to the Dark Elves, though, who have harnessed the power of miniature black holes to function as singularity drives that propel their Harrow ships and as IMPLOSION grenades that devastatingly compact everything in their blast radius to a microscopic point!
The cast is top-notch yet again. A magnificently chiseled Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor Odinson aka Thor to portray a conflicted prince torn between two worlds. Tom Hiddleston brings incredible nuance and duplicity to Loki Laufeyson aka Loki, now a captive after his "Avengers" exploits. Anthony Hopkins, gruff and regal as ever, returns as Odin. Rene Russo's Frigga is given more of a showcase and her compelling death pays dividends down the line. The Warriors Three are also on hand with Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun and Zachary Levi replacing Josh Dallas as Fandral. The gorgeous Jaimie Alexander returns as Lady Sif to provide some romantic tension before leaving the role behind. Although she reprised the part for two episodes of "Agents of SHIELD" and two future MCU cameos, her starring role in TV's "Blindspot" prevented her character from completing a satisfying arc and she remains one of the MCU's criminally underused opportunities. Idris Elba lends his gravitas and sonorous voice to Heimdall again. Natalie Portman meets the parents as Dr. Jane Foster with Stellan Skarsgard as an addled Dr. Eric Selvig and Kat Dennings as snarky Darcy Lewis returning as well. Darcy has her own intern this time in the form of Jonathan Howard's Ian Boothby and Chris O'Dowd's sad sack Richard has the impossible task of being Jane's rebound guy! Although underwritten, Christopher Eccleston is appropriately cold and ruthless as Malekith. In the comics, he is gleefully vicious but lacks that dark joy on screen. Although it's colored purple-and-black in the comics, the villain's dichromatic face is represented after the right side of his white visage gets scorched black by lightning. Adewale is impressive as the hulking, indomitable Kurse. Tony Curran, in heavy wig and armor, portrays Grandpappy Bor in flashback, Clive Russell of "Game of Thrones" plays Einherjar Commander Tyr and the great Alice Krige has a bit part as Eir, an Asgardian physician. Taneleer Tivan, the Collector, played by Benicio del Toro, is introduced as is his servant Carina played by Ophelia Lovibond. Royce Pierreson of "The Witcher" appears briefly as a Greenwich student. Lastly, there's a fun cameo by Chris Evans as Captain America.
    TRIVIA:
    1. The Svartalfheim sequences were shot in Iceland to provide a black basaltic soil landscape for the Dark Elves' homeworld.
    2. Jaimie Alexander slipped on some steps on set dislocating a shoulder, tearing a muscle, slipping a disc and chipping eleven vertebrae!
    3. Natalie Portman was unavailable for the end-credit scene so the woman who races to greet Thor is Hemsworth's actual wife, Elsa Pataky!
    EASTER EGGS:
    1. Selvig's diagram for his sanitarium lecture features the numerical designation for the Marvel Comics universe, 616, as well as several dimensional junctures such as The Nexus, The Crossroads and The Fault!
    2. The rock alien Thor fights on Vanaheim is the first appearance of the Kronan species in the saga which also debuted in Thor's first issue, "Journey into Mystery" # 83!
    3. Although in a fluidic state, the Aether is identified as an Infinity Stone making it the third one encountered in the saga!
    CAMEO:
    1. Stan Lee appears as a patient in the sanitarium who asks Selvig to return his shoe after the addled astrophysicist used it as a visual aid for his lecture!
    END-CREDIT SCENES:
    1. Volstagg and Sif deliver the Aether to The Collector for safekeeping in his Collection since the Tesseract is already housed in Odin's vault and two Infinity Stones so near one another is a dangerous prospect. The Collector accepts and, after the Asgardians depart, reveals that there are six in total which he has designs of acquiring!
    2. Jane, in the company of Selvig, Darcy and Ian, is shaken out of her funk when Thor returns and she races to her apartment balcony to greet him with a kiss!
    3. Meanwhile, the Frost Beast from Jotunheim, stranded in London after the Convergence, is seen chasing a flock of birds at the site of the anomaly!
The next chronological stop in the MCU are episodes 8-16 of Season 1 of "Agents of SHIELD".

I don’t think it’s Medieval. Odin and Thor are actual gods in Norse mythology. Slightly before Medieval times.

    • @oxhine
      @oxhine Год назад +1

@@Andreamom001 Norse mythology is as old as people have inhabited Scandinavia. These oral tales were finally codified into the Poem and Prose Eddas in the tenth and thirteenth centuries. Norse activity was at its height from the fifth through tenth centuries. The early medieval period or Dark Ages are from the fall of the Western Roman Empire in AD 476 to AD 1000 concurrent with peak Norse activity. The comics play fast and loose with the myths and the aesthetic Kirby and others employed was a medieval one. Therefore, according to actual historical classification and the artistic license used by Marvel, medieval fantasy is exactly the right term to use. Marvel's Thor also traveled to magical realms, alien civilizations and space, too, which is where the spellcasting and sci-fi comes from.

Hi Miss Shadowcat!🙂For me, the Thor sequels can be hit or Miss. The plot in this one is not the greatest IMO. I thought Kenneth Branagh did a very good job with the first film. Odin says his father Bor destroyed all the Dark Elves, so Odin's last name is Borson, as in son of Bor. Is Jane's part in this film too much of a coincidence? I guess we can presume that they can rebuild the bridge, if they had built it in the first place. Jane's date is in the comedy film "Bridesmaids" (2011). I don't know if you have seen that one. Freya died in battle, so she should be in the Asgardian afterlife in Valhalla. Colson says Jane is in a secret location (Norway) in The Avengers film. Nice reactions to your second Thor fim, Miss Shadowcat!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Yes, most people agree with you that the villain was highly forgettable in this movie. Just evil for evil's sake. What was his name again? If I look it up again, I will have forgotten it by the time I finishing typing this sentence.
And I agree with you that the chemistry between Thor and Jane was never really there. In the comics, Thor had a "secret identity" - like pretty much all superheroes had at the time, and Jane was the secret identity's love interest. But it just doesn't work - and really isn't necessary - without that "mortal" identity. Even the comics got rid of the mortal identity eventually.
Sif is indeed Thor's wife in actual Norse mythology. And she's supposed to be blond - she has hair literally made of gold.

Over all, I have to say I like the movie, but it does create some of those 'No Going Back' situations which weekly series avoided in the past. They didn't kill off characters like they do now in movies to make us 'feel' something, plus then those characters would come back in later episodes. They didn't kill the criminals, they locked them up . . . .
I wish they had found someone else to create the language the Dark Elves used - it was pretty rough, and not in a good way like Black Speech (Lord of the Rings). Lastly. If the Dark Elves existed before there was light, then why did they evolve eyes? Those things used to capture light . . . . As always - I enjoy your perceptions and outlook.

Dark World is a bit of a mess, but you can't deny that it shock up Thor's status quo a lot. Frya is dead and Loki secretly rules Asgard now. Also the first mention i think of the Infinity Stones, those are going to be important.
Also i agree that Malekith was a lame villain, nothing like his almost joker-like comic counterpart and more just a very generic brooding villain. Very disappointing.
