北八ヶ岳の東麓に広がる長野県佐久穂町、八千穂高原。その一角に200haに50万本の白樺林があり、近くには28haの八千穂高原自然園、八千穂レイクがあります。八千穂高原の白樺林は「日本一美しい白樺群生地」と言われています。初夏にはヤマツツジ、ミツバツツジ、レンゲツツジ、ドウダンツツジも咲き、さらに美しさを増します。
