  • Having a quick release system is a must for your Tripod, Monopod, and Gimbal. In my opinion, the Ulanzi Falcam F38 quick release system was one of the best one that you can get for your gear.
After using it for the last 6 months on long days like weddings, I have a few things that really gave me issues. Here are the two things that caused me some pain
I hope you guys enjoyed this - let me know if you have any feedback about the review. I would like to do more of these in the future :)

I know this is an old video, and the V2 fixed this issue you are referring to, but a quick workaround would be to order a “D ring” 1/4 mount screw and switch the old screw out for the new one so whenever it comes loose you don’t need to find a tool to retighten it.
But also you’d have to find a screw with a D ring on it that’s thin enough to fit in there, so shop around a bit first!

I appreciate when creators are willing to make updates on previous recommendations - it makes this all a healthy process. I am not a professional, but have been using the Falcam 38 system, and once in a while it is harder to mount than other times, but this has never been a bigger issue than the ones that the system solves. I am curious to see what new system you are trying next.

Ulanzi now has the "FALCAM F38 Double Thread Quick Release Plate", which has both 1/4 & 3/8 screws on the mounting plate. Obviously this won't work unless the camera has holes for both, but it fits the 8sinn cage on my Z-Cam, and eliminates the small amount of loosening I experienced over the last year of using the F38s.

Thanks for this video. I love how small the plate is on my camera, it is barely noticeable. But after using the F38 for some time, starting running into the same issues you are talking about. The screws and the ability for the plate to move are frustrating, then you need to try to find a screwdriver to tighten the little guy again.

I bought the Falcam system partly based on your first review, and those of others. I appreciate your re-review of the Falcam system, but I have to say that I haven’t experienced the issue with the F38 on my Canon R7. I have experienced loosening on an F22 monitor swivel that I mounted sideways on my gimbal handle. Because it is effectively a big moment arm applying loosening leverage on a small plate, the plate twists. I tightened it, and that seems okay, but re-orienting it so gravity tightens it would be better. The F38 has performed well on my SmallRig cage going between my gimbal and tripod. I’m not a pro that’s in pressure situations like weddings so that may be the difference. I may try the PGYTECH system in your other video, but I’m not looking to drop a bunch of coin on a new system at this time. Also, I would like to see more robust options for the PGYTECH system.

@@ansali6639 Since this comment, I have switched to the falcam cage for my R7. It’s base hooks directly to my gimbal base plate, tripod, and my shoulder strap quick release plate. I came from the Peak Design system with a dual plate with the Manfrotto RC2...
I recently changed to the PGYTECH system, which has some advantages.
But now I'm considering to change again to the Falcam eco system, mostly because of the cage for the A7IV 🤔
It's a hassle because, there is one accessory from peakdesign that I still use quite a lot and it's the lens support system oO
This thing is amazing in run & gun and events !
Unfortunately, Peak Design kind of let go of their system and never released anything to adapt it for gimbals or tripods...
The PGYtech product is very good in my opinion but I am now at the step of getting a cage for my new camera and the falcam cage has a lot of advantages...
They are also the only one making a camera top handle that could double up as a side handle for the DJI RS serie 🤔
I'm nomadic, I need to count every grams and having more versatile and adaptive gears is a big plus for me.

    • @JohnLe
      @JohnLe  Год назад

Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with the Falcam system. maybe they improved, but I don't think so. I have been using the PGYtech system and I love it. I just put the plate on stuff to adapt to things like my gimbal. As far as a cage goes, I don't really use cages, but I wonder if you an just add the plate to the bottom of the cage and use it that way?

@@JohnLe Well, the Falcam cage include already their F38 plate built in their design (actually 2, because there is also one on the side for vertical mounting 😁 Which is nice because nawadays, a lot of my clients ask me to shoot vertical content...)
      ruclips.net/video/aQkcuJF5QHo/видео.html
Plus, this built-in plate include also a F22 plate in it. The cage have the advantage of having a lot of F22 and nato rails, so once fully in their eco-system it seem to be a breeze to use :D
But i've just very recently finished the switch to PGYtech Snaplock...
And by that I mean: Fully equiped my 2 cameras, 2 action cams, 2 gimbals, tripod and backpack strap...
Plus the Falcam system have the advantage of having a plate combining F38 + Pead Design, so I could put my B-Cam on the Peak Design Capture clip that I have to keep on my working belt anyway, because of the Peak Design Lens Kit System, that has no equivalent anywhere else oO
      www.peakdesign.com/products/lens-kit
Then I'm considering upgrading my tripod for their Zero F38 in the future, so it would make sens too.
      So yeah it's a mess 😅
Switching to Falcam represent an investment of about 700chf for me, but then it seem to be a big plus in vesatility, adaptation, comfort and modularity, to streamline all my accessories and therefor, keeping weight and space optimal in my bags (I'm backpacker for 10 years now...).

    >>Question: did you fix the plates properly?
Look, I appreciate the video and I respect you being able to retract your prior content but I wonder if this was necessary.
What I'm essentially hearing from your review/update is that the key issue is the stability of the f38 baseplate, which is then causing all sorts of problems. this paired with the info that you seem to tighten the plate with a coin. (of course, this combined with it's respective downside.)
Now, my thought is: wouldn't a proper mounting/tightening of the baseplate resolve all the issues you have? The issue doesn't seem to be the product but the way you are using it. Correct me if wrong but the logical order of thought is:
    1) it's too inconvenient to mount the plate properly. I have to use a tool or a coin. (is it?)
    2) the plate comes loose, and causing all sorts of problems. (why does it come loose?)
It would be a whole different story AND a real issue, if you said: I fixed the plate properly and it still got loose. But that's not the case, is it?

    • @JohnLe
      @JohnLe  5 месяцев назад

Umm the way the screw is, you can use an Allen key or something flat like a screw driver so the coin works just fine. Yes I tightened it down as much as I could without tearing the camera. So yes when I tightened it up with a coin or a tool, it still came loose. If you have a better way to tighten it properly, let me know.
The point I was making is that you’d have to carry a tool with you in the field bc it comes loose sooo much

  • @111ch1a1d111

I've been using a Falcam F38 (V2) with no issues whatsoever. I am not defending the company per se, but I suspect you may have purchased a faulty quick release - the more troubling aspect to any (& all) items is the build at the factory - rarely these days does something last the distance; in part, it is the manufacturer becoming sloppy - the quality control is minimal. Your assertion that you're concerned that the mounting plate screw may strip-out the thread on the camera body - have you actually inspected same ? As with everything that has moving parts, regular maintenance is essential, be it a vehicle, ladder, holding clamps/brackets - it is not enough to expect these products to be of the same standard that was once the case thirty years ago, & that's all due to a throw-away society - an edict that has been endorsed by we, the user. Obviously, you have new QRS's to play with (& as I'm commenting on your video twelve months later), the F38 may be a dim & distant memory; ultimately, I hope you've found an adequately reliable replacement; I always look at these products as possessing a 'half-life' of sorts, ergo, it's not going to last; sad but true..

I don't know how everyone can keep recommending this stupid system. It is so hard to put it back you really need to match everything %100 otherwise it is not gonna click in. I hate that system and unfortunately i believed the youtubers and get 6 of them. I am so angry:@

@@OUCGN Thank you for this! I bought systems too, but it didn't really work for me when i needed it. I don't use the system anymore. I found another brand i like a lot better. I think i'll make a video on that new system.

bro you really need to just jump to the point when you make a video. I'm stopped and writing this comment at the 1:28 mark. You've wasted 1 1/2 minutes of my life just talking nothing useful. Get. to. the. point. Right from second 2 or 3 you could say this..... "Hey guys whats up, as you may know I reviewed this product before, but since then I've spent a lot more time using it and here are a few helpful things I've noticed that I wanted to let you know, that may give you a few of the downsides of this product as well. The first one is ______......."
Boom. You've spent maybe 15 seconds saying all that, getting right to the point, and everyone's happy. You gotta learn to get to the point man.

thank you for your feedback. if you look at the comments, there are other users who had the same issues. Plus it doesn't serve me anything to talk badly about a brand... actually it cost me some gear for testing.

You went from looking like a professional in your old video to the stereo typical youtuber who dresses like a teenager Dx although your audio has greatly improved, the whole set up and look of this just screams cookie cutter. Rip
