      Raptor dinosaurs first made their appearance in the triassic period.
      Their claws remained relevant throughout the age of dinosaurs.
      Real velociraptors aren't in the "Jurassic Park" movies.
      They used the physical characteristics of Deinonychus instead because it is more physically intimidating.

    One big misconception about claws is that they don’t actually deal slashing damage, but, more accurately, tearing damage. They don’t have actual blades, only points. True slashing is all but exclusive to human weapons and tools.

    • @Buphido
      @Buphido 2 года назад +94

      That's what I was wondering about recently. I was building a D&D (technically Pathfinder but D&D is more universally understood) character in game who would wield a dragon claw as a weapon and I was unsure what type of damage to attribute to it, whether it would be slashing or piercing. Sadly there wasn't anything about that in the rule book item and there isn't any comparable build in current servers ever since the dinosaur nerf.

    My claw tier list:
    F: Sea lions. What are these even for?
    D: Most primates. Their nails, while sharp, don't really aid in grappling (which these builds excel at without their claws anyway) and are pretty weak in combat.
    C: Dogs, bears, cheetahs, sloths: Ground-gripping claws are not good for combat. Tree gripping claws are awkward as hell to actually use. But they do grant a mobility bonus.
    B: Giant Anteaters. These claws have some of the highest anti-armor bonuses in the game and are so powerful they're used as anti-materiel weapons against fortifications. On the other hand, their basic damage is not great so they really need to be able to grapple into a crushing attack to make these things lethal. Horses and giraffes: Mobility bonus AND a super powerful attack with good reach and low end lag? Most lizards since their claws are both very sharp and good for climbing.
    A: Cats: moderate damage but excellent grip to help them land a lethal bite attack. Birds of prey: brutal damage rivaling bite attacks, plus excellent accuracy.
    S: Crabs. One of the strongest crushing type attacks in the game. Pistol shrip: Ranged hydrodynamic shock attack? WHAT?

    I am in awe of how much you've grown, TierZoo and congratulations on the big announcement! 👏
    I have one single opinion regarding this video, which is that showing the Cheetah running and grappling prey, when explaining how felines have rectractable claws, is misleading, as the cheetah doesn't have rectractable claws and is worse of in terms of claw damage because of it. I think you've even mentioned this in one of your videos. This is even more apparent when you - after showing the cheetah - discuss how canines and others do not have retractable claws, making it seem like the cheetah is pooled together with those, who have retractable ones, again misleading and incorrect.
    That's it. That's the only thing I can point at, anyone feel free to help me understand this if I misunderstood something. I know TierZoo pours his everything into his content, and I want to make it clear that I'm a massive fan. So much so, in fact - that I believe he'd want his fans to engage his work with a critical eye, thus making room for growth and achieve new heights; I know I would, because this fan base is top tier.

And comments like yours can make my day, because they confirm that we are living, breathing people and not just either bots or trolls, trying to stir up bad atmospheres.
