I witnessed this LIVE performance in Tokyo, when I was still a little girl. It was the first time in my life I cried by watching a stage performance. It was not only her utter grace and beauty, but also the truth and humility she showed us, which struck me. I realise she was already 51 years old here (older than I am now in 2015!)! Later we watched this again on TV and I still cried. Today, as we all mourn this lady's departure, I still cry. What a generosity, what a gentleness and vulnerability..... THANK YOU, Ms. Plisetskaya. You deserve eternal & peaceful rest.
I've seen so many modern performances, but no one, NO one comes even close to this arm movement. This woman is a movement genius. My jaw drops every time I watch.
I had the immense privilege of seeing Maya dance Dying Swan in the Theatre Des Champs Elysees in Paris as she approached her 70th birthday. Like here she did an encore and the applause from the standing ovation at the end lasted almost half an hour during which time she returned to bow to her audience again and again and she was literally showered with white flowers. I will never forget it. At 70 she was dancing just as well as in this video and her stage presence was immense, like nobody I have seen before or since. There was complete silence in the theatre until she finished. She is, for me, the Assoluta of assolutas
Maya Plisetskaya had an encapsulating aura and her performance was uniquely divine. There was no ballerina assoluta who could outdo her. And there won't be any, who can replace her! She was the reason why I fell in love with Russian ballet!
I'm so grateful for living in the same time period as this remarkable, one-of-a-kind artist and seeing her perform live on stage whenever she came to Los Angeles. She was an original and will be immortal through film for future generations. Dance with joy in the rainbows for eternity, beautiful Maya.
Among all the instability, fear and anxiety comes a few moments of pure bautiful excellence of a lady I knew very little about. But when I see this fabulous piece of art, it gives me hop that the world will somehow remember that all lovely things are also created by people...not just the bad. Thank you Miss Plisetskaya... very beautiful

Wow, I really love the closeup views on the encore; thanks so much for this video! I have saved multiple clips of Maya's dying swan, and no two are exactly alike because she performs it uniquely every time with slightly different nuances, so every new clip is a treat :-)
Rest In Peace Maya.. There will be no performer like you for the dying swan part for sure. You left a legacy for present and future ballerinas to work harder to reach the excellence.
There are words which have been so over used in every day life. AMAZING! AWESOME!, PERFECT,... all used in describing even the most ordinary things or moments. The Grand Canyon is AWESOME. Even a hamburger is described as AWESOME! These chronically abused words are irritating and boring. I can't wait for people to stop using them. However, every now and then something comes along in life that really IS awesome. This performance is one of them. Not once, but twice. I wish I could have seen this live. I watch this over and over again.
I had the good fortune to see her once and she danced it twice. Never heard such clapping and bravo's before or since. But I must say that the man running the camera here should never be allowed to film another ballet video again. The video must always be on the dancer. No head shots, feet shots, nothing but full body filming.

What an unforgettable moment! It mus have been glorious to witness such beauty live.
Hail, Maya. You're a goddess.
The composition itself brings you to tears and Maya's fluid and graceful movements just seem to melt you and transport you into the "Dying Swan".
Miss Plisetskaya didn't have to do an encore but she did.....that is what you call a first-class lady !!!!!! I agree 100% with louiselins.....
I don´t see any trace of peacockery on her, only gratitude and a wish to transmit something with her dance. True star.
Eternal and peaceful rest, Maya Plisetskaya, BALLERINA ASSOLUTA !!! Thank you for sharing such an unforgettable moment of beauty and grace.
She's simply the best Dying Swan of all times.
