Thanks so much Dan, really big help! What you said about controlling the money really spoke to me, I do take the food away etc, and dont use treats for recall, but I do share my bag of nuts when Im watching movies, and most of the time I get the nuts out, and I realised Im spoiling my dog and eating together is Im guessing the wrong message. Maybe this is why he pulls and barks on the lead so much, Im going to try just sticking to his meals. It does fell like its going to be a bit of a wrench, I love sharing treats with him!
My wife and I have issues with our 1 year old dog barking and growling at guests in our home. Very worrisome. I simply googled suggestions online and found your website. We bought access to your dog calming code and just started implementing it with our dog Chief tonight. I’m hoping this helps. I look forward to also seeing your videos here on your channel!
Aweseme videos. Just started using using your rules! I have a question about the food. What about toys scented nylon sticks that our our 1 yr old pup chews on? He even chews on his ball like it is a piece of bubble gum. Do we take those away and eat first before giving it to him. Then take them away after a bit?
Thank you for your videos! They make so much sense! I have an 11wk old mini Aussie. He has a very short cycle (about every 2-3hrs) of play, eat/drink, sleep, potty that he does. Should I start doing this with him and only allow him to eat twice a day or wait until he’s a little older? Thank you!
Enjoyed this video it was amusing as well as informative. I have had dogs all my life and have had the tendency to let them be who they are at the same time as protecting other people from the more rambunctious ones because I believed they would be happier that way but after watching this one video I think maybe they would have been just as happy following the leader.
I have a puppy so she needs bones because she likes to chew so what do you suggest? she’s definitely playing the game with me with her food being picky and only wanting certain things to eat!!!
Hi Dan, thanks for this video. We have a 2 year old border collie who has always been fed twice a day, and gobbles her food down waaaaay too quickly - no leftovers. She does not get “people food” when we’re eating, only the occasional slice of raw vegetable before dinner when I’m chopping veggies for our dinner (and yes, she automatically comes into the kitchen when she hears me chopping, and begs for these). My question to you: is it important that the same person usually feeds her? At the moment this job is shared between all four human members of our household.
Remember, food is food. Doesn't matter what it is, and includes scraps, bones, pre-meal choppings...it's all food to your dog. The main idea is you eat BEFORE your dog. If they get even one morsel, especially if they 'beg' for it, they will be in charge, and you've lost the battle. It doesn't matter who feeds the dog as long as it's done the same way...gesture eat first, remove the bowl immediately after the dog has eaten
This works for my reactive herding breed. I just started it and the results are amazing in just 2 days.
Video starts at 6:53 , thank you for the insight!

Wait till he's a tad older, about 6 months, then you should be able to stretch it to twice a day
Thank you ❤
